Worth its price tag, I have to tell you that. This game shows of how the kings of the nearby kingdoms get transformed into animals. Mario and Luigi set out on a quest to destroy Bowser and free the kings from the curse.
The game is pretty much identical to it's original version on the Nintendo, except you are able to save your progress and after beating the game and go to previous levels you beat before and play them once again. There are also three save files, and the option to scan E-Reader cards. Yes, with the E-Reader you are able to get certain power-ups, watch demos of how to win some hard levels, and of course, add levels to the game. That is, some cards let you add other levels to the game otherwise unplayable, which were not featured in the original game. That's really cool, I think.
The graphics are awesome for a handheld, and the sound is not bad, either. Probably the best part of the game are the many power-ups you can get, including the raccoon tail, which can whip enemies away and let you fly if you run fast enough. Of course, there's the Fire Mario, enabling you to toss fireballs, the Invincible Mario, Hammer Suit, Frog Suit, Toonooki Suit, 'P' Wing, and many others. The bosses are pretty easy once you get the hang of the controls, which are pretty easy to learn. The levels are challenging and fun.
I highly recommend buying this game if you're looking for one you could get. It is as close to perfect as GBA games get.

After recently being introduced to the Super Mario Brothers for my dad's old Nintendo 64 and enjoying it muchly, I was pleased to find out that there was a Game Boy Advance version so I could play even while on the go.
This game offers a plethora of improvements over that old Mario game. At the top of the list is the amazing graphics that have been almost completely revamped. While the basic structures and scenery stay the same in most worlds (exception: all the dreary brown dirt that plagued screens like world 1, level 5 is now a pleasant green), everything is much sharper. The ? blocks are now curved and much easier to hit. Mario and Luigi also have voice now, and while it gets annoying, it adds something to the sometimes monotonus background music.
Perhaps the greatest new feature is that when you run out of lives and hit continue, you don't have to do every single screen over, in fact, none of them reset! Another awesome feature is that you can often move while there is dialogue going on, such as in the toad houses. You also seem to get more N Cards in this version.
Overall, paired with the official strategy guide from Nintendo Power (although it's for the N64 version, it's the perfect companion for the GBA version as well), this game can provide hours upon hours of fun.
Out of this world!!!!!!!!!!!

Truly, this game is the best and greatest game eva made. I have played this game on two systems, the NES and SNES (part of the Super Mario All-Stars collection). I do have to say, i loved this game to death. One of the best Mario, no, one of the Best games eva made. The graphics are great, and the music was awesome. The gameplay, while normal, was awesome. While the storyline is classical and was the same as it's two predecessors, it was great. It was a pleasure for me to play this game.
I can't believe that I'm supporting a video game!

We bought our five year old son a GameBoy Advance and this Super Mario Bros. cartridge for Christmas. On January 28th, it is still the first thing he wants to do when he wakes up in the morning. Granted, it's addicting - and we've had to limit the amount of time that he plays - but I am amazed at the positive aspect of video play. My son's problem solving skills are improving exponentially as he uncovers new uses for found icons and develops solutions to each new level. This toy is a winner. He loves it! And - dare I say, he does seem to be learning from using it. Hurray!
A Truly Good Game

These days, it seems all the hype is about Halo 2. I don't see why anyone would want Halo 2 when they could have Super Mario Bros 3.
First seen in 1989 on the NES, it was considered one of the best games of the day. I can recall the good old days of the NES, trying to beat this one without saving. I'd do anything to get advice on the game, and would always try to beat my friends and my parents. Sometimes I'd be up for four hours.
The game was re-released in 1993 on the All Stars cartridge for the SNES. The graphics and sound were updated. It also included the ability to save your game. The 2003 GBA release also has the improved graphics and sound, although the bass is a little different sounding on the GBA--and that's for the better. The save options are better and you can now play as Luigi in one player mode.
As a bonus you get Mario Brothers (the arcade game) on this one, but it's the same one that comes on the other three Mario Advance cartridges, so if you already have those you'll be disappointed.
This is a game that has stood the test of time and is still one of the standards that I judge games by today. You can add all the 3-D you want, but the old sidescroll is still great in every respect.
One of the best games ever, and it's over 15 years old

Very few games define classic. Many of the Marios can be classic(except I hate part 2 and only "liked" Sunshine), Mario 3 can definately be called a classic. Released waaaay back on the old NES system, many people were spellbound by the gameplay and the mechanics of having multiple suits and power-ups, expanding on the flower and mushroom power-ups.
Story: Ha, you're expecting a story in a Mario game? It all boils down to one sentence: there's trouble in the Mushroom Kingdom and Mario must save the day. That's it. To do that, he must clear at least 90 stages and face many enemies.
Graphics: It's NES so they're not exactly that great but in the end you just don't end up noticing. It's certainly an improvement from 2 and the different worlds are nicely detailed but face it, you don't play an old-school game for the graphics.
Sound/Music: Back when Nintendo re-released Link to the Past on the GBA, they added some voice clips from the N64. Well same thing with Mario 3, when Mario gets a power-up he goes "just what I needed" and it's slightly annoying but since you're not gonna get power-ups one right after another it's not as troublesome.
Gameplay: The most important aspect of a game and Mario 3 certainly delivered. Adding to the list of power-ups is the Leaf, giving Mario a tail and ears, allowing him to fly. Also added is the Hammer suit, capable of throwing hammers, the Tanooki suit which is similar to the Leaf but allows Mario to turn into a statue briefly, making enemies ignore him. Also is the frog suit which is more better suited at swimming and the oddly-popular shoe which allows safe passage over some terrain and stomping enemies.
The world is separated into 8 sections and like many-a Mario game, it's got a theme. There's a desert area, a sky area, the favorite "big world" with large enemies, an ice world and so on. Also included is different special areas, such as a mix-and-match where you have to match a whole picture of a power-up, a memory based card game where you flip cards that have to match(2 tries? that's really stupid) and a game of picking 1 of 3 chests.
By the way, this game can get incredibly frustrating. The first couple of levels are not that big of a deal but later levels will seriously drive you up the wall. World 6(ice world) and one stage on World 7(pipe/maze world) seriously made me yell in frustration.
As an added bonus, the game comes with the original Super Mario Bros where you have to bump the ceiling of different floors and kick enemies. Simple yet effective. Then when you're done, you can go back to Mario 3.
P.S Don't ask about the E-Reader stuff since I don't have one.
Fun, but Hard

Super Mario Brothers 3 overall is fun and one of the better GBA games. It reminds me of the NES game. The first level is easy and the second, but the third is so hard. But in Mario as you all know, if you're the tiny Mario if you get hit once, boom, you are dead, have to start the level over again. Here's the lowdown:
Graphics: 5/5 They have really improved the graphics of the old version alot. They aren't those blocky NES graphics, they are fine and colorful. That's what I like about the Mario Franchise.
Sound: 5/5 The sound is fantastic in this game. You get to hear the classic theme and all Mario's phrases like "Oh, Mama Mea"
Controls: 5/5 The controls are pretty simple. A is to jump and thats about it and the D-pad. Also you use R to speed up.
Fun: 4/5 I always like the Mario franchise, but the game is literally too hard. One hit your are dead pretty much if you're not the racoon or Super Mario. But that's what Mario is I can't complain too much about that.

This game is great! I thought that this game is as good as the SNES version like in Super mario all stars. Since I don't have an NES at home,I would have been happier if they didn't make the music like the SNES. So lets get on with the review!
Music 7.9/10 The music was good in this game. Like I said, this game should have been like the NES version. The only music that I don't like is world 7 and 5. They were completely ruined by the classic NES versions (I heard it on Nintendo Midi Music.)
graphics 9.7/10 The graphics were the same in the SNES version. I saw some screen-shots on the NES version and the GBA version was upgraded.
Diffuculty 9.0/10 This game was really hard! I still haven't beaten the game yet. I have to do 3 more levels. It took me about 2 and a half hours to beat bowser. After I beat the game, they let me go back to other worlds to beat more levels.
Overall 9.1/10 I think this game is a little bit better than Super Mario World. Mario World was a little harder but Mario advance 4 is a little more fun!
