I really culdn't wait for RCT3 to be released after i'd spent so much time having fun on RCT2. But what a disapointment, nothing to do with the graphics or sound etc,
just not a patch on the original games. For me personally, i don't think they needed to go 3D with the graphics, there was nothing wrong with how they were. the game play is just nowhere near as enjoyable as th RCT2, the fact that it keeps changing from night to day is quite annoying too, some people may prefer this, but certainly not me. As a massive fan of RCT2, i can honestly say i wish i hadn't wasted my money on RCT3, the original will always be best for me, but that is just my opinion.
This is not Roller Coaster Tycoon

I urge anyone who is interested in buying this game to try out the FREE demo available for download on the Atari website.
They (the new developers NOT Chris Sawyer) attempted to reinvent a game that worked brilliantly in it's previous incarnations- only they should have stopped at the visuals (which are very impressive), and that really is the only place the original game failed. The core game play is so very confusing now- and the interface is just little dots with meaninless icons that fill your screen with visual overload. Nothing is where it used to be- and things are split across multiple icons that it becomes a hunt and peck situation.
The core mechanics of the game (the way you build rides & place sidewalks) have all changed so significantly- I feel they've destroyed the game in the process. I am a huge fans of RCT1 and 2- but I'm seriously considering passing on this hunk of junk.

Mine shipped with the wrong key. Despite repeated attempts, I've not even heard back from their customer support on this issue.
So, I can't rate the game for how it actually plays, but I can alert you to concerns that their customer support is inadequate and you may be wasting your money on a game you can't actually play.

In RCT 2 and RCT 3, both time the developers have changed the controls. They did include a tutorial, but for those of us who have played 1 and 2, we can't just jump in and start playing. It has nice new features, but their continuous fiddling with the controls makes it something you cant just pick up and start having fun with. It's probably worth the money, but it takes a while to learn how to do simple things, like change the camera angle.

I got this game a while ago, and I strongly disagree with the negative aspects of some of these reviews. While I admit that the brand new interface is hard to get used to for older fans of the series (like me), many of the bugs that have been mentioned are now completely gone, due to the fact of the update that has been released. This game is better than the first two, and adds wonderful things to the table that could only be possible with the 3D engine it now uses. This transition was no doubt inspired by some games that have come out like SimCoaster and Disney's whack at strategy games, but this is better on so many levels. I would heartily recommend this to anyone who is a die-hard coaster or simulation fan, or is a fan of the series.

This game is very entertaining! Not only can you ride roller coasters, but you can ride other rides too(dropping rides, spinning ones, etc.)! You get to build an amusement park and open stores, beverage booths, food booths, and of course bathrooms (duh!). There are so many choices of different roller coasters it's unbelievable. You can change the color of the tracks and coaster cars. Plus, you can add a lot of scenery to the park, and add themes to your rides! You can play in a sandbox mode, or the challenging career mode. I prefer the sandbox mode because you can do whatever you want with unlimited money. If you're just starting the game, go to the tutorial; its very helpful! Lots of tips and everything! To sum it all up, this is a fantastic game, with tons of twists!

RCT ....2 was great. I beat about 20 of the scenarios. I got really good at it. Sadly, all that experience has gone to waste with this release.
It is a completely different layout for the whole game. Now I'm not going to BS to you about the graphics because everyone else had done that. Someone forgot what made the old game so great. I definitely would qualify for an RCT veteran in terms of my knowledge of the previous game, but when I got #3 I felt lost. Number 1 to 2 was a simple change. They fixed all the little problems that existed. In number 2 the layout was VERY similar to # 1. The transition was so smooth. Now the whole GUI has taken a turn for the worse from #2 to #3. not only. The new GUI looks like a whole bunch of bubbles that seem to be arranged with completely different icons for everything with no apparent order.
Lack of key buttons and organization break this game. The game, to sum one of its main problems, asks the player to manage more and more (with much more detail) with less and worse tools. How many of you would like to decide the color of each pebble in your park ? ..Huh? Not me. I also don't want to care about meticulous details that would take so long to manage the park perfectly that I wouldn't have time to build anything.
The other main problem that I can easily pinpoint and put in words was not actually something that is able to pinpoint. This only exists in number 3 and not in number 2 or 1. The game can act slow at times. Certain buttons have about a 1 second delay before they respond. its not my computer. I have a brand new dell. ( 3GHz Dual processor, 2GB ram, and 256 MB graphics). I just picked this game up, it loads quick with the highest graphical settings. I don't know what it is. Everything has a slow aftertaste about this game. the people do no move fast enough for one. It seems like in about 10 minutes ( real time) guests would be lucky if they got across the park. Coasters make about no money, partly from running slow. Also, coasters can seem short. They may only support 20 people. People just talk. In rct3, not only are the graphics 3D, but the problems are 3D too.
MORE POWER!!!

I'm sure this would be a great game....if I could get it to work! I got this game when it first came out, and I bought a computer specifically for this game. Then found out that even though my computer was brand new, my graphics card wasn't even close to being able to handle it! I'm sure someone with a brand new system (2006) will be able to play it, but if you have an older system, don't even bother. The light at the end of the tunnel though: 1 & especially 2 are very fun to play.
Can't even get this game to work right....

I first have to say that I love all the Roller Coaster Tycoon games and expansion packs up until RCT3. If you have a computer that has the minimum requirments recommended for this game or you do not have an ATI Radeon or GeForce video card DO NOT BUY this software. You will waste your money because it will not play correctly.
Before getting this game I checked all the requirements and my computer met them all, except one. I do not have an ATI Radeon or GeForce video card. I have a different brand video card that meets the required MB's so I figured it would work. I figured maybe the graphics would not be as good or the game might slow down a bit once you build a large sized park. I never figured you had to have a particular name brand video card. Well, I was Wrong! It won't play at all. It will load and get me through the Tutorial then it freezes. I can't control, Alt, Delete.. I can't Escape.. nothing. I have to shut the computer down, reboot and then I get error messages saying my computer has had a Major Error and then connects directly to Microsoft telling me I might need to download drivers, which still doesn't help. If you go to atari support .com and check the message boards you will see ALOT of people with the same problem.
You should not have to have a particular name brand video card. If the MB's meet the requirments it should work! What if every major game maker decided to require a different (maker) video card for each of their games? From what I read on the message boards there are major bugs and flaws in this game too. Anything from freezes, to shutdowns, to not being unable to save your game. Did they not test this game before releasing it to sell?
I guess you could say this is my own fault for not making sure a different brand video card would work but I have bought ALOT of games (some have even been below the computer requirments) and never had this problem before. Looks like I will be heading out and getting a new video card soon and hopefully I will be able to actually rate the game itself next time.
Far supreior than the previous titles.......

Dispite what some of the reviewers are saying this lot of fun. Dont listen to them for they are clueless. Yes you do need a strong computer to run this-hence you should read the system requirements before getting this title. But There is plenty of options and lots to do. From the challenging career mode to the sandbox mode where you can create and run your own park with out any limitations and make fireworks this is a radical improvement from the other RCT titles. This even lets you import your coasters from the pervious RTC titles and ride them on this. This is a more complex title than the other versions but it is really not as difficult as people would make you think it is, infact once you learn the controls it is a fairly easy to use and make rides. The graphics are far superior than the previous RCT Titles and so is everything else for that matter. Yes the career mode is challenging but one would expect it to be- i dont know why the other reviewers were complaining because this is supposed to be challenging-maybe they are just plain lazy - but then again thats what the sand box mode is for. If you are a fan of the RCT by all means get this game you will love it and you wont be dissappointed.
