The best Harvest Moon game yet!!!

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 7 / 7

Well I have to say, I've really enjoyed the previous Harvest Moon games that came out on Gameboy. They put farming under a whole different light, making it fun and challenging. With plenty of mini-games and side quests that proove challenging, you can't go wrong with this game. When I recieved this game at Christmas I knew that Natsume had a breakthrough.

Sound: 4.5/5 Hey, it's a farming game... what can they do with sound? Well for what they had to work with, I find it very appealing. It gets you into the mood of the game. When it's raining you hear raindrops (calming) and on sunny days you hear birds chirping and a lighthearted music background.

Gameplay: 4/5 Yes, it does repeat itself often, every day you get up and do the same thing. But if you set yourself a goal and play all the minigames and do the side quests you'll find yourself wrapped up for hours in this game. Plus when you save the game there isn't any 20 seconds of waiting for it to save, it's short and sweet.

Control: 5/5 It may take you a few minutes to get the hang of it, but it doesn't take very long. You'll make a few mistakes of throwing crops on the ground and watching them disappear, but you'll get over it.

Graphics: 5/5 Wow, all I can say is wow. The grpahics are a work of magic. The people are drawn beautifully and everything is amazing. When it comes to graphics this game leaves nothing to be desired.

Overall: 18.5/20 It's a wonderful game that lacks a bit of plot but replaces it with hours of gameplay that keeps you wondering what the next day will bring. Such an improvement from the previous games that it's hard to see they come from the same family. All kids will enjoy the game and parents will love the fact that they can save at any point and in the blink of an eye, be able to turn off their game. It's great... addict

This HM game ROCKS!!!!!!

When I got this game I didn't know what to say. All I could do was play for hours strait!! You're a boy that returned to an area where he visited as a child. His old friend lived at the farm. You find out that your friend has died. There is SO much to do after that! I've played a few other HM games. This one is great! Take this game any way you want it. You can be lazy...or active! Marry a girl, make friends.....you're not just running a farm, you're running your life! Here is what I think about other stuff about the game:

Graphics-Awesome! It's so hard to explain them! It's almost 3D stuff!

People-They actually do their stuff. You could be standing next to them, and then they'll leave! They don't have much to say to you though.

Sound-It's cool music, but it can get stuck in your head! I had my parents whistling it while I was playing because it's really easy to catch onto. But also there are birds chirping in the morning! Not just ones outside your door that get in your way.

I love this game! I really recommend it to people. But if you don't like doing routine stuff in games, then stay away from this!

Also, the days last longer!

It's ruining my life!

If you're a fan of the Harvest Moon series, this game will not disappoint. I've played the GameCube's AWL and the PS2's STH, and this game comes in somewhere between the two in terms of difficulty, but is closer to the GC version in that the game is more open-ended--it doesn't just end after one year like the PS2 one. So, here's my take on the game.

Graphics: (5/5) Standard issue cutesy character sprites. I liked the anime style character portraits when you talk to people and it's generally easy on the eyes--crops are easy to discern and colors are bright, vivid and things are easily seen/found.

Music/Sound: (5/5) I like that I can tell when it's raining, even if I'm in my house (you can actually hear the rain falling) and that my cows moo, my horse whinnies, my chickens cackle and my dog barks. The music is pleasant and fades nicely into the background as you play. Oh, and you can hear cicadas chirping during the summer--just like living in Japan!

Gameplay/Controls: (4/5) Each day is a race against the clock, as ten seconds equals ten minutes in the game, and you have to find time in your day to do all your chores and somehow make friends and take time to relax. There isn't much challenge at first and I found myself putting my character to bed as early as noon in the beginning. But as you add animals and plant more crops, there doesn't seem to be enough time in the day (doesn't that sound like real life?). In terms of controls, FoMT makes use of buttons, to say the least. While you don't NEED to learn all the shortcuts, it makes your life easier most of the time, but can cause problems at others. For example, L + A button allows you to scroll through your rucksack, but if you're holding something and you try this, sometimes the game doesn't recognize the L + A button combination and you wind up throwing precious produce/eggs/milk to the ground, losing it forever. AAAUGH! This has happened on NUMEROUS occassions, so be careful! But, generally speaking, it has a low learning curve and the game is fun if you don't mind repetitive activities--watering crops, brushing your animals, etc.

Replay value: (5/5) This is a game without end, essentially. You start off trying to restore the farm left to you by an old friend, but you move on to other things--like renovating your house and ultimately, getting married! Basically, you never really "replay" the game, but continue playing the game you already have.

This game is highly addictive and should come with a warning: May cause sleep deprivation and lack of productivity at work.

A fun game for all ages and the best part of all, this is a wholesome game with no killing, guns, knives or violence. It teaches responsibility, rewards hard work through repetition (welcome to the real world kids!) and stresses the importance of making friends (which is ironic because you'll never make any as you will wind up with your thumbs glued to your GBA playing this game).

I recommend this game to anyone, but it is geared towards children 10+ and RPG lovers.

This Game is the best!

This game is by far the best video game I've ever played. The graphics are cool and the gameplay is superior! In this game, you are able to grow crops such as carrots, potatoes, tomatoes, and many more. You can also take care of animals(dog, horse, cow, sheep, and chickens). So basically, it's about life on the farm. Another feature I should mention is you can make friends with the townspeople and get married with the younger girls in the town. There are many more things you can do, but you'll have to get the game to find out.

I almost rated this game 4 stars because of some things. The controls are hard to remember at first, especially the combinations, you can very easily get lost in the beginning, and the time flies by too quickly.

Other than those cons, this is a great game. I especially recommend it to other Harvest Moon and Animal Crossing gamers.

Very Respectable

Although skeptical at first, this game is pretty good. I liked btn and i kind of felt silly for it.
So I was hesitant about picking this game up. Now all i can say is that i don't care who sees me play it.

Graphics - par with or better than ps

gameplay - alot more stuff to do, more fish, more recipes, and
--------- 1 more girl to marry(the goddess) which is
--------- extremly difficult but worth it. you have to collect
--------- all the fish, ship at least 1 of every item collect
--------- the goddess jewel and a whole list of things that i'm
--------- not going to get into. For more information visit
--------- www.fogu.com/hm and the fact that you can upgrade
--------- your hen house and barn is a nice touch

sound - they sampled real animals and it shows on the gameboy

replay - there are plenty of things to do to keep you from
--------- putting the gameboy down

be warned this game is extremely addictive have fun

The Ultimate GBA Game!!!

Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town is by far the best, most addictive HM game on the market. This Game Boy Advance game is truly worth the price if not more, as it offers a variety of horticultural activities, including growing crops, rasing farm animals, socializing with the town, and so much more! I honestly can not put HMFoMT down, and with the simple controls and wonderful game play, I find myself a serious fan, playing hours on end. In addition, here are some pros and cons of the game:

Pros:
-Extremely addictive
-Seeing your farm develop successfully is truly satisfying
-You can run your farm any way you want; starve your animals or slash the crops for all you care!
-There are really fun events that occur during the seasons
-The opportunity to get married
-Amount of spaces for naming things has increased, unlike the four you get in the original Game Boy game
-IT'S A HARVEST MOON GAME, WHAT ELSE???

Cons:
-The time moves a bit too fast, but as you progress, you become adapted to it
-You cannot travel around town with your horse or any other animal...well why would you want to walk by the supermarket with ol' Bessy the Cow, anyhoo?!
-Several errors can be found in the dialogue and with the open/close times for particular stores

With that said, you are making an excellent decision by purchasing Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town, and if you don't buy it, well, then, you are a pathetic, sad little farmer. Buy it now!!!!!

Funest Game Out!!!

This is the best non-violence game ever....(not putting down violence games). It is tons of fun to play. You get to fix up an old farm, farm, date, marry, fish, mine, raise animals, and tons of other stuff. Once you start playing you get hooked. You can spend hundreds of hours playing. Also to fix a statement in someones past review there are many more than 2 tools....there are over 10...you can only hold a few at a time in your pack though.....I recommend this game to all ages.

I HAVE 8 CHICKENS!!!!!!!!

I'm not kidding. And they're so hard to tend to. I had to build a rock fence so that I wouldn't stay up past midnight locating them and bringing them into the coop. As hard as this game can get, it is fun. Maybe I should get a Harvest Sprite to help. I can do that, as my wife (Karen) is expectant and the birth takes an entire day and I have a sprite that I have befriended enough to tend to my animals for that day.
So apart from mythical creatures (and tools) there are so many fun elements to this game. It proves that raising a farm and mining can be great fun (even if farming and mining don't really go that way, but if they did then it would be so great) as well as competitive (cow, sheep, chicken and cooking festivals, horse races and the dog frisbee toss tournament) however passive the competition is.
I will remind all who plan on getting FOMT that apart from the cute anime characters that inhabit the city that there are some misproportionate people (Big nose Harris the cop and Fatty Gourmet, the fish-like cooking contest judge) as well as DORKS like Rick who wear huge glasses, a headband and an apron no matter what the occasion. At all costs, don't let Rick marry Karen. (Karen is a bad cook, an alcoholic and an amazing singer who has the most ADORABLE image when you talk to her. Her alcoholism is actually quite humourous, especially when she finds out she's pregnant. I won't spoil it for you. It's hilarious.)
For all of you who like the colour blue, don't get this game. Blueness is a bad sign because you turn blue if you use your tools too much and eventually you'll pass out and you'll sleep the whole day and your animals will hate you for ignoring them.
I'd keep going, but this is a review, not a spoiler.

P.S. Sorry to make this more on the spoiler side, but it's really funny when you get married because it starts rolling the credits after the ceremony and then you get the credits in the mailbox the next day. I found it hilarious.

It's back to the farm!

This game is TOTALLY awesome. I've played 5 different Harvest Moon games, and it's really fun. This game is very similar to the playstation one, Harvest Moon:Back to Nature. There are a couple more features, and getting married changed a lot too! Pick from 5 girls, Ann, Karen, Elli, Popuri, and Mary! Have animals, learn how to cook recipes, compete in the local town events, and even mini-games to with the Harvest Sprites! This game is really, really, REALLY good. I suggest getting a copy of this game right away! I've been so far in the game..and I STILL play this! I recommend this game, and I know a LOT there is too it. This game deserved a 5 outta 5!
