Rock Band is a sorry excuse for a quick cash in of Guitar Hero

Ridiculous.

-The game itself is very bad, if you miss more than about 5 notes in a row, you are failed, making the game miserable to play despite the actual difficulty being extremely easy. Even on expert this game is a piece of cake.

-The guitar is of very poor quality compared to my Guitar Hero controller, the neck is flimsy, the buttons feel unresponsive, and the strumming trigger is very squishy(making it very hard to get an accurately timed note) I'm pretty sure the guitar peripherals were made for about 1 dollar.

-The vocals are extremely difficult to get right, also making the game much less fun to play. For example, while playing Tom Sawyer you are expected to sing like Geddy Lee (the high pitched vocalist) instead of the game recognizing your voice. Don't know about most of you, but I can't sing like a girl. I feel like an impersonator rather than a vocalist.

-The drum-set is also bad, very bad. A great concept, but extremely poorly executed. The drums and stand are very flimsy and EXTREMELY unresponsive. You really need to slam the drum heads in order to hit notes.
Also, being a drummer, I can assure you that actually following the drums in the game is ridiculous, it is WAY too easy and there are notes added that don't exist in the song, notes that obviously should be there but are not. You are also forced to hit drum heads that are in the wrong position compared to a "normal" kit. My hi-hat is not to the far right of my snare.

The production of the game was OBVIOUSLY rushed to get it out before Christmas. I cannot wait until the makers of Guitar Hero work all the kinks out of this game and actually make something you can have fun playing, and not get frustrated with its poor quality, easy difficulty and overly simplified accessories.

After 6 hours in the rain, and no sleep. I'm happy

Wow. I am at work now, reeling from the 6 hours of standing outside in the rain and the realization that I haven't slept at all. And I'm happy. I have to say I didn't think that Rock Band would blow my socks off, and it really hasn't yet to be sure, but it will undoubtedly be a huge time sink this upcoming weekend.

It is much, much different from the GH series. The obvious: Mic and Drums. Duh. The drums are pretty tricky, and actually feel pretty real. I'd be really surprised if they don't make their way into a middleschool music class for rhythm. Serious.

The mic is the mic. Nothing to say there. I'm going to buy a stand after work for it. ought to be on a stand if it's supposed to be a rock band, eh?

Finally, the guitar. meh. It's ok. I am undecided. Maybe I'll love it, maybe I'll hate it. The buttons are a little mushy, and the strum thing is rubbery. The pickup selector is pretty sweet, which allows you to change effects like Flange, Chorus, Echo, and Wah-Wah.

All are plugged into (wireless coming soon I hear) to a 4-port USB hub. I have enough chords on my floor. Annoying. I don't like yelling at my cat to stop chewing on the tangle of chords during the middle of a song.

Aside from that, the game plays very well. Slightly different look fom GH, but you can adapt quickly. Trust me. The graphics are not great, but do they really need to be? Overall, I can't wait to go through all modes--it's really like 4 different games, all of which are solid.

Have fun.

***warning*** it is a known issue, which I encountered last night: It is common that the strat's down stroke button (the picking swivel thingy) is already having problems and is worn out!!! The demo one in the Best Buy I bought mine at had the same problem, and I didn't think much about it as it had tons of use and mis-use I'm sure. There was maybe six hours of use on mine before it started having problems, and now I can only 'up-pick' so frustrating. I'm glad I got the warranty, but where the heck am I going to get a replacement?! Anyhow, I'm sure future models will fix this, but now I'm stuck playing with my GH2 guitars (I still like them better except for the neck buttons). ***buyer beware!!!!***

I ordered the Xbox edition of Rock Band for my son to enjoy over the holidays while he's home from college. He was thrilled to get it but the guitar was defective and couldn't be used at all. We now get to wait for a new one to be sent out with no guarantee of when it will arrive. I notice other bloggers are reporting quality issues as well.I have a feeling this product was rushed to market for the holidays with little attention to quality control. Very disappointing.

What about the girls???

This game is so fun, but there are only 3 girl songs to sing to start out with and almost no variety on the ones you can unlock, so thats why it only gets 4 stars overall.

game only lasted 24 hours.

I got the game, played it first night, and the next afternoon after school, the guitar quit working. Contacted the game maker and found that it was very common for this to happen. I had two choices. (1) file a report and request that a box was to be sent to me and I was to put my guitar in and when they got it back, they would use the same box to ship me another. (I picked this one-2 months later-I am still waiting for "the box") or (2) pay them another $125 up front and they would send me another guitar, then when I got the new one, I would place my broken one in "the box" and when they got it back, they would refund my $125. Now, after 4 weeks of waiting for my box, we called and found that yes, we were set up to get "the box", no, they don't know why I haven't, but, NOPE can't change our request to option (2) now...we have to wait for the box. I hate this game now and the makers... what good is it without the guitar and why do I have to spend an addition $125... I already paid to much for the game of broken parts...J

Game is fun but the music is VERY limited. Music in Guitar Hero II & III is better and more extensive.

BE WARNED! DO NOT buy this game from Amazon or Hubbagames! They price gouged me! This is a classic case of BAIT AND SWITCH. When this item was placed on my husbands wish list and I went to order it the listed price was $169. When I finished placing my order, the price had changed to $249 - for no given reason and I could not cancel my order. Then the next day the price for the game was listed as $169 again. Now I find out that I can not return this game that I was obviously been OVERCHARGED for. I have now been ripped off by both Amazon & Hubbagames and WILL NO LONGER DO BUSINESS WITH EITHER COMPANY.

Shame on Amazon

As a past Amazon customer, I am ashamed and appalled that such a reputable company such as Amazon would mark up their prices well over 100% on items that they know will be ripping off customers. The price mark up on "Rock Band" is outrageous and should be criminal. This is not cocaine that you are selling on the streets, this is a childrens toy.

This is my first amazon review. This game kicks butt. I can't believe how much fun it is. I will never go back to GH. My friends were a bit shy at first, but once they started to play along it really was a lot of fun. I would love to see a bigger drum set you could configure differently, but really its a great set as is and the whole package is a good deal for a change. I would have paid more, and this is the ONLY game I have seen for 360 that I might have waited in line for if needed.

Now if they could only allow back up dancers al la dance dance revolution!

This is the very best and most fun game of this type. It blows Guitar Hero 3 out of the water. I own GH2, GH3 and Rock Band. Rock Band is BY FAR the best of the bunch. Anyone considering getting this or GH3 for Christmas should definitely opt for this! It's the best!
