Fun for the whole family

We had previously owned Guitar Hero for PS2. This one blows it away. It was an immediate hit with my two boys and my wife even got into the fun to sing. For the cost of this thing it's a great value. The quality of the guitar is much better than previous first generation I had. The addition of voice and drums was pretty ingenious. We are still into our first day with it so lets hope the durability of the hardware holds up. It only has a 60 day warranty on the hardware which was a bit surprising. Would have expected at least 90 days. My son is already fixing to have his friends over and get into a dueling band contest through the xbox live feature.

I'm terrible at it, but it's a ton of fun

Just got the game for xmas. It's a ton of fun. I have never played a rhythm game before this so I am not great at it, but it still manages to rock my socks off.

Haven't had any trouble with the peripherals either. Rock solid.

Must.... Stop...Playing....

This game is very addicting. I was worried that I would hate it and then I would have all these large game instruments in my house taking up space. That has not been the case. In fact, it has been played NONSTOP since it was unpacked. The game does have some shortcomings...
1. the up strum on the guitar is a pain and doesn't work half the time
2. You can't go Xbox live as a band
3. It can be difficult to get the kick drum pedal in a comfy position.. I am 5 foot tall.. pretty sure it was designed for taller people
4. A microphone stand would be convenient... doesn't come with one (yea I know.. thats kind of petty.. I sing a lot and it sucks to hold the mic alllll the time)
5. Whoever packed the box sure didn't want the consumer to get to anything with any sort of speed. I would definitely say that they went overboard with the tape and twist ties.

Would those inconveniences have stopped me from buying the game... no, I stilll adore it even with those flaws. I love playing all the instruments. We have been using a GH3 wireless guitar with this game and it works great. It is also quite fun to customize your rocker with instruments and clothing and make-up. I even have a group of friends who have been coming over almost daily to play because they are hooked too. I can't imagine this game ever getting boring. It is soooo much fun to play and even more fun when you have others playing it with you.

Rock on dude

My son and his two cousins plugged in on Christmas day and had a blast. From the early afternoon until late evening, this game delivered. Although we had an equipment problem with the guitar after about a week, EA express shipped a replacement and the band is back. If EA can figure out a way to transition this game to using real electronic instruments, a musical explosion is on the horizon! Great concept (guitar, drums and vocals) and excellent execution.

This game is big fun ecspecially if you have 4 or more people to play with. I love the drum kit and the vocals, Get tired of one switch off. The only disappointing part of this game was only 3 days after opening box the strummer on the guitar stopped working effectivley. EA had a very easy way of replacing it on thier website. I had a new one within 4 days including the weekend. Up to 60 days for the warranty on parts, Overall This game is Big Fun. I would give this a 9 out of 10.

Rock Band review by an >40 parent

Rock Band is great family fun! The ability of 4 kids siblings (7-18) being able to play the same game and enjoy themselves without fighting is fantastic. The range of songs also allows the occasional parent(s) to join in. The only issue has been with the quality of the instruments, of course everyone knows about the guitar strummer issues, but the drum pedal is also prone to breaking in two near the heal. EA's warranty process is easy, they took care of the guitar, I have just sent in the drum pedal, I hope there is no problem with the return..... Rock On!!!!

Rocks .... completely :)

I wish I'd had the forethought to video tape my family having a complete and total blast with this game on Christmas and my son and his friends repeating the scenario on New Year's. We rotated in and out of the "band" on both nights -- people of all ages had a BLAST (I'm serious, the youngest was about 7 and the oldest 49). We laughed and all sang along and no on got bored and somehow, we never started the annual Christmas movie but the folks who are very anti-video game didn't get all high and mighty about that. Instead, everyone was enjoying the "performance." My son (to whom this was given as a gift) recently wrote on his personal blog the following title "ROCK BAND" - in the body of the blog he wrote, "Thank you." Enough said.

I agonized over this investment for Christmas since my "boys" are all getting older, etc. I am thankful that I had the sense to get this bundle pack and get it when the getting was good. We had an amazing time with it at Christmas and at New Years. My son also packed it up and took it to my nieces for another family gathering (have video games, will travel ... that is Evan's mantra ... he is a traveling entertainment pack).

Buy it. You won't regret it. Fun in a box. Big time.

Best Music Game Out

Forget guitar hero! RockBand is the new wave of music equipment video games. This is by bar the best out there, plenty of songs from all sorts of genres and downloadable content every week gives this game plenty of replay value.

The best part is for parents who have a kid who might be interested in learning the drums. The Rockband drumset teaches real drum skills that can be applied to any drum kit. If you are looking for a more quiet version of drums and still have your child learn the skills look no further!

Best Music Game So Far

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 1 / 1

This is the best music game out there. Preiod. I have played all the Guitar Hero games as well as some other rythm games, and this is by far the most fun.

However, there are a few points of criticism:

For one, I had problems with the guitar controller. The strum bar broke pretty much as soon as I got the guitar, and I had to sign up for a replacement (which is yet to arrive). The process was simple, but still. This apparently is a problem a lot of people have, so that's disappointing.

Update: I received the replacement controller today, but they sent me a PS3 controller, which is useless to me. I checked my support request and I clearly requested the 360 version. So the saga continues. Argh!!!

Anyway: I like the guitar controller itself. Better even than any of the Guitar Hero controllers. It is a little bigger and heavier and it feels more like a real guitar. The "solo buttons" are cool too. The only thing that is not so cool is that the strum bar (even when it worked) didn't feel as good as the one on the Guitar Hero controller, since there doesn't seem to be a real noticable "click".

Another thing that struck me as odd is that the product ships with one guitar, a drum set, and a microphone. However, the game is made for lead-guitar, bass guitar, drums, and vocals. So you end up one guitar short. And the guitar controller isn't available for purchase separately? WTF?!?

Note: The Guitar Hero controller works with this game too, except that there are no "solo buttons" on the GH controller. But at least it gives you a second guitar, which works well as a bass guitar.

But anyway: Overall, I am having a blast with this game, so I am still giving it 5 stars. The songs are pretty good, and the selection of additional songs you can download (for a price) is extensive. The list of songs still doesn't quite hit the nail on the head as far as my personal taste is concerned (or what I would like to play in a game like this), but that is just a matter of personal preference. (I like Guitar Hero 3's selection better).

The drums are also cool to play. They are probably the hardest part of the game, so that even gives veterans something new to do. Plus there always is the singing thing, if you do not mind getting emberassed. ;-)

The visual style of the game is superior to Guitar Hero's comic style (IMO). Not that it seems to matter much in a game like this, but I guess it is important to some people.

Update: I got this game for christmas. It is now early April. I still have not been able to get a working controller from EA. They sent me a Playstation one by accident, and then they sent me another broken xbox one. And in between, they even charged my credit card. That is just unacceptable!

Very fun game!

This game is awesome. Much better than Guitar Hero. Only thing that is bad is that I have been waiting until they bring out a guitar to buy separately. Other than that, this game rules. A little pricey, but when you think about it being a four player game and how much fun it is, the price seems a little more fair. Many songs to unlock and so many to buy. Great game. Makes you feel like a musician.
