The graphics tend to be a bit bland, but this is a port of a PC game from back in the day. You can't expect much to change.
The sound though is much better: from reloading your weapons to the sound of a flash bang, the atmosphere is lovely.
There are some minor glitches, such as getting stuck on walls while climbing or stepping; something very hindering when you get to later levels that require stealth.
And the difficulty may put some people off. First off, you must spend several minutes in planning before each mission. The problems come when you start the level and most of your teammates just run and get themselves killed, no matter how well you planned it out. I find myself just having everyone hold while I do it myself; which is difficult seeing as how the enemies will kill you the instant you see them, leaving you with the options of shooting them in the back, or tossing a flash-bang everytime you enter a room.
But that aside, the game is pretty fun. And you finally get to play as Ding.

Rainbow Six is one amazing game. You just what the U.S. Army is doing right now in Afghanistan. You are with an anti-terrorist group which tries to stop terrorists from bombing buildings and other terrorist acts.
You and your group do drills to train for your missions. The only bad part is the missions and choosing all of your stuff takes a long time....A VERY LONG TIME.....
After you have all of your weapons and materials you go on over 21 different missions. You kill terrorists and try to save hostages by getting past the terrorists guarding them who will shoot you right when they see you which causes a problem. It is nearly impossible to save the hostages.
On your missions you also go to certian areas and get ready to make your attack on the enemies. Then its time to attack with your sweet guns. This game is a great shooting simulator that will attract many people who enjoy hunting or shooting with guns.
This game is almost too realistic which isn't all that bad, but bad when it comes to you getting killed all the time when you go on certain missions.
If you are looking for some fun with your Dreamcast...this is the game to get.

Rainbow Six is the best game the Dreamcast has to offer. The graphics are great and so is the music. The game actually makes you feel like you are a member of special OPS, Mission planing, sneak actacks, raidsand hostage resuces. R6 also gives you a very big challenge, offering two different levels of diffuculty: Recuit and Vetren. If you like shooting games, stragety, or fast pace games, this is the game for you. You'll need to invest lots of time in it to actually beat the game, it took my a couple of months and it's very hard. Not for begginers!

This is a PC game ported over to the dreamcast, not with great results. Overall, I would suggest not purchasing before playing a rental. Some people can get into the theme of the game and overlook some defeciencies with game play, others not.
These are my gripes: Graphics aren't up to level with what the DC can do. Also, planning missions is laborious for those not patient enough to work out details. There are dozens of button combinations you have to learn to execute options, not very natural. The game can feel more like work than something I'm doing for fun, not for those who don't have patince and problem solving skills and are willing ot put them to work. Personally, this PC game should best have been left on the PC.
Great Interactive Game

Rainbow 6 has it all. This is for any level of players. It features 27 training missions; 16 unique missions, plus eagle watch missions and speacial forces action. Rainbow 6 is very similar to the Half-Life game. It pumps you up and makes your heart beats faster as if you are the player itself. If you failed one mission and have to repeat again, the enemies are not where you think you were last kill. It shifts around and there are no two same missions alike. If you are into first player action type game, you have got to pick this up. You will be playing this everyday for at least a month.

I'll start off with the cons that have already been said:
-polygonal graphics, it's no big deal though
-sometimes bad computer partners, in small areas the computer may get stuck against the walls and you have to run back to them to get them off the wall
-lots of controls, that only takes less than half an hour to get them figured out
I've seen a few times in the lower reviews that people were hoping for a game like Goldeneye. Although they're both shooting games, I really don't think you can compare them.
This is not a game where you just run around at full speed and shooting everything in sight. This is in attempt to be a realistic game, it is one or two shots and you're done. It is strategy and stealth. For missions you create a plan, then you and your team act based on that plan. If you're not into making plans, there is a default plan that can be loaded.
One thing you do need to enjoy this game is patience. It takes about 20 minutes to create a plan and about 5 minutes to act on it. Creating the plan involves thinking. If you're a patient person who likes shooting games, definitely get this. If you're looking for a multi-player faster paced shooting game, look elsewhere.
Much better on the PC

In Rainbow Six, you assemble a highly skilled team of anti terrorist commandos, plan out your assault and then control one or more of the team as you commence your invasion.
The critical item to note here is that the majority of the game is spent choosing your team, equiping them properly and then planning out the raid. This is not Syphon Filter where you jump into a room of bad guys and blaze away. You can be killed in a single shot. Once the action begins, you can play any one of the raid team that is engaging the enemy, otherwise the sophisticated computer AI will guide them according to your plans.
I agree with the reviews that suggest that you rent this game first. It is very detailed and realistic. If you don't want to spend hours analyzing and preparing the missions, then you wont't appreciate the game's considerable depth.
I find that the detail level does not lend itself well to the standard dreamcast controller. There are too many things to do and the interface layout is awkward without a keyboard and mouse. I also found that the action part of the game (moving the aiming cursor) was overly sensitive and very frustrating to use.
The other reason that this game does not rate highly for me was the poor, boxey graphics and the medicore sound. They just do not take advantage of the Dreamcast capabilities. On the otherhand, the game does have a lot of replay value and very sophisticated AI.
Not worth it at any price

The absolute worst Dreamcast game I have ever played. I would not even take this game if it was given to me for free.

Well I know most won't believe it but Rainbow 6 for Dreamcast is actually on the store shelves! I bought it about 20 minutes ago and so far it's pretty good but I haven't gotten too far into the game.
