if you want to get dizzy and go blind...

This game looks terrible. after 5 minutes my eyes hurt. Other games look amazing on the gameboy advance but this is just dark and uninteresting. A good game poorly executed for this device.

Doom isn't ment for the gameboy

I got this game as a present for my little brother but decided to have a go myself at it, I used to play alot of doom and doom 2 on the pc but this gameboy version does nothing for the original pc version.

The small screen and terrible lighting make this game almost impossible to see, by time you realize there is a bad guy in front of you its too late he already has got a few shots on you. Doom is a great game, buts its not for the gameboy, it needs to remain on a big screen, were you can see what your doing. The gameboy is a fantastic game system but something just are not compatible, in this case two positives make a negative, its a shame.

Dark Doom on a dark display

I don't know what the other rewievers are writing about, but this is the worst Doom Port. The GBA has the speed, you need for doom, but not the Display. Its mostly dark brown on light black on a non illuminated display - you just can guess what happens. You can only play through, when you know the levels from the original PC-Version (for goods sake they copied the automatic map feature). There are only very few changes for better gameplay on the GBA, such as no moving bridge in Part 1 level 3. Also you can only save after you completed a level. I couldn't find the multiplayer in the menu, but maybe its only visible when you attach a link cable. If you want a really god Doom Port on a Handheld, try the free versions for Pocket PC.

Would be better if you could see

Doom mimics the computer game fairly well, but the game is so dark that you can only play it in direct sunlight. I prefer these type of games where stratagy is more important than reflexes and Doom is true to this form. Only I have eye strain from trying to see what is going on.

Watered down version of Doom, good if you never played

Ouch, everyone will buy this expecting the standard of Doom, a lone soldier in a first person shooter against monsters of Hades, then they will play the game and see the violence, challenge and secrets are turned down! The blood is now green, and moments after killing an enemy it disappears, along with due to the Gameboy Advance not being as powerful as someone's computer (original platform of Doom), the game tends to move slower, and there are less enemies, barely any decor items like pillars and meat, and finally no lighting effects (flickering, strobe light)! Several traps have been removed, such as you can now no longer fall into a deep pit of lava or acid, as well as every single huge room with lots of enemies has just been removed all together! Speaking of removed, the Spider Mastermind and the cyberdemon have been removed! The two biggest bosses in Doom are no longer there, along with Holodemons have been removed (transparent demons). The controls are unique, I have yet to find a way to change weapons, but the B button is run and it is to open doors and pull switches. The A button is to fire. There are four slots to save your games and four levels of difficulty.

DOOM!!! On a handheld!??! DOOM!!!

Doom is the seventh best FPS for the GBA and the second released for the system. Doom was first released for the PC back in 1993. The game was awesome. Eight years later the game is now portable. And yes, it is still awesome. Everything from the original is here except for some minor elements that don't detract from anything. Doom is back, back with a vengeance!

Impressive graphics; basic gameplay

If you're a fan of the Doom series you get exactly what you've wanted -- no more, no less. The Game Boy Advance continues to impress in the graphics arena (Tony Hawk 2 was the first indication) and the port is pretty darn true to the original Doom. Somewhat grainy visuals (direct from the original game) and very basic gameplay bring the game down a notch, but it's still as fun as ever.

If you were a fan of the original, or want to see what really started the Quakes, Unreal Tournaments and Counter Strikes of the world, get this game.

Excellent Port!

I can't believe they did it...and did it well! This is actually a fantastic port of the classic game. Anyone buying it should be aware that it's a ported version of the Atari Jaguar code and levels which means it's not an exact port of the classic PC version but it's very close. The levels are modified a bit and I believe they've taken out the Cyberdemon and the Spider Brain but it's still an excellent shoot em up and it's multiplayer. Also the blood is green to achieve a "Teen" rating. The game runs suprisingly smooth and has smart additions like a brightness adjustment (why don't all GBA games have this??). If you fell in love with the classic or just want to show what your little GBA can do, buy it...NOW!

DOOM, the greatest game ever, but now hard to see too!

If you are bored on a trip or at work, this game is perfect and the best thing since pockets on a shirt. The worst thing you can do is fire up the original on pc for a while, then check this game out on GBA. It's really small and hard to see what's going on sometimes. But of it's that or no DOOM at all, I'd take this in a hurry! It's really good all in all. Buy it if you like DOOM.
