This has to be one of the best Castlevania games ever made. It is similar to the awesome Symphony of the night (Konami wheres our sequel?), but has some interesting diffrences such as the dss which sets it apart and makes it a must own. All I can say is if this the fist advance castlevania game I can't wait for the next one.
Awesome!

This is a great game for the GBA. It has incredible graphics, great sound, and awesome gameplay. The DSS feature is a very cool edition to the game as well. One of the reasons that I bought the GBA was that Castlevania was a launch title. Yes, the game is dark, but if you buy a wormlight, you can see everything just fine. This is a great game and a must buy for all owners of the GBA.
The best Castlevania EVER!

At first I didn't think anything could top Castlevania II from the NES, then came Symphony Of The Night. At that time I was certain the Castlevania franchise had it's gem, once again I was wrong. Circle Of The Moon is better than even SOTN! You play as Nathan Graves, a young vampire hunter in search of his master who met an unknown fate after Dracula was resurrected. This game has a lot of challenge, a lot of horror, great graphics, but most importantly, it's insanely fun!
Well worth the time--if you have the time to spare!

As a 36 year old former casual "gamer" who spends way too much time on airplanes I finally convinced myself to buy the GB Advance to help cope with the monotony of cross-continental flights. However, all is for naught if you can't find a good game to while away the hours. Reading books is great, but you also need a good dose of mind numbing activity as well. Since Zelda for the GBA has yet to make an appearance I picked up Castlevania: Circle of the Moon. It took me over two months to beat the game, actually just over 100 hours (the game logs the time!) but it never failed to hold my attention.
The graphics are great, but I thought the screens were too dark on many levels. (By far the best light for the GBA that I have seen so far is the "Cobra" by NUBY. The "glow-worm" light does not do the trick.)
The scenario is pretty familiar. Boy meets monster, boy has to kill monster. In this case it's a lad named Hugh and his nemesis is Dracula. There are save points on all levels and handy warp points to dash from one area of the castle to the other. The enemies are downright cool and the game takes full advantage of the 32bit GBA processor. Your first weapon is a whip, which is with you at all times. You then pick up "sub-weapons" as you kill various enemies. Unfortunately you can only carry one sub-weapon at a time, and it can be a hindrance when you want one particular weapon (boomerang, axe, poison potion, wimpy throwing knife) for a particular enemy. The boomerang is the most useful. Occasionally the enemy you vanquish (tough ones and easy ones) will leave behind a magic card (they also leave behind lots of other goodies as well). You collect the cards and combine them for special abilities, e.g, stronger attacks, shields for protection, etc. However, I could not get some of the special attacks to work when I combined the required cards. Maybe I was doing something wrong but in the end, it didn't matter as I killed old Dracula and the world is once again a safe place (yeah, right).
The two most challenging/difficult areas were the Battle Arena and the end battle with Dracula (who does not go down without a real knock-down-dragged-out-fight). You don't have to beat the Battle Arena to win the game, but if you do, you are rewarded with the best armor a vampire killer can wear. The bosses on each level were otherwise fairly easy to beat. Just make sure you stock up on replenishment potions (much like the "hearts" in Zelda). You will need, without a doubt, the first issue of Nintendo's Game Boy Advance Magazine, which has all the maps and just about everything else you need to beat the game. It will take time.
I don't know what I can say about the replay value, which to me is quite important in a video game. You have an option after completing the game the first time to start again with all the magic cards in your possession from the get-go. However, I figured "what's the point?" I already won. Still, this kept me occupied for more than two months and it was more than worth the cost. If you've ever flown from JFK in New York, to Johannesburg, South Africa you can appreciate having something to do while crammed in cattle class. Also, my co-workers kid's are now calling me for advice on beating the game--I've unwittingly become a COM guru.

I highly recommend this game, but am hoping our friends at Nintendo bring Zelda to the GBA, and soon!

im going to keep this short and sweet. if you like SotN buy this!
is has the same control excpect in stead of swords you have to collect card that give your wipe and you diffrent powers. and its a bit more dificult the SotN. so you can just call this the the next one in line.
the only draw back is the graphic are very dark on the GBA screen, but dont let that stop you from getting this awesome game.
really darn good game

This was my first GBA game ever and it was probably one of my best choices. Although i admit that my stepfather chose the game (i like to take responsibility for things as good as this). This game has okay graphics(only if you play with a lighting attachment, though). If you have tried and liked symphony of the night you will love this one. This game is quite challenging and i suggest you play only with a lot of time on your hands. If you are one of those mario loving fanatics, don't get this game. i cant say that this is exactly like super mario land. the controlls are the usual, a= jump and b= attack. I assure you, if you have a lot of time on your hands and a lighting attachment you will love this game.

This is the only game where the lack of a backlit screen on the GBA causes serious problems. Since Castlevania games are gothic horror, much of the action occurs at night. Without a steady light source, you are not likely to make it far. I seriously recommend this game only for people who have an attachable light. Otherwise, the game is frustrating because it is too dark.
But if you get the light problem solved, this is as solid as any other Castlevania entry. It contains some of the magic and RPG elements of Symphony of the Night, and is a treat for any long-time fan of the series. The control is easy to manage, and the enemies are diverse. The same weapons, attributes, and items are available, and the gameplay is classic Castlevania. The backgrounds are nicely detailed, and despite the fact that the animation is choppy at best, the graphics stand out. This is Gameboy, let's not forget.
If you can get past the obvious light problem, this is an enjoyable game that will satisfy on every levil. But please, to avoid disappointment, get the light.
pretty damn cool

I enjoyed this game quite a bit, some of the bosses were tough, but the game was fun, challenging and enjoyable.
