2-Excelent music and sound
3-Challenging replay value( there is a lot of extra things you can search or do)
This is a must have .

Take it from a non-believer, this game is that good.

Not straying too far from the Castlevania mechanics, Circle of the Moon is an excellent first for Gameboy Advance.

Let me start by saying, I am personally not a Castlevania fan. I was dubious as to the value of this title. The story starts like all the other Castlevanias, Dracula (The Prince of Darkness) is unleashed in the world. This time, you must stop the order of Chaos from restoring him to his full strength. Again, you are armed with the preverbal whip.

Level progression is what caught my attention. The levels are more like Metroid, baring save points in key locations within a non-linear progression. As you progress, you fight several types of enemies, ranging from the ever popular zombie to earth gargoyles (who cause the earth to spike upward as an attack). To add a bit of a role playing element, for every enemy you kill, you gain experience points. These points allow you to level and grow stronger. You can also gain equip able items that strengthen your abilities and can double the E.P. earned in combat.

From a control standpoint, the mechanics remain the same. A jumps, B whips. The shoulder buttons are used for throwing daggers and special abilities. This works nicely when performing precise movements. I was surprised to see the addition of a slide attack. I have found this to be quite useful in killing small enemies and plowing through zombies. Though the game lacks a diagonal whip ability, it forces your to time your jumps better. Despite the rest of the controls, I was disappointed with the whipping delay. To whip an opponent takes a full second. This is because they animated the draw back and forward lash. This is annoying when trying to hit enemies while jumping.

I would also like to points out the exceptional usage of the GBA's graphics capabilities. Yes the character sprites are terrible like most other GBA games, but the backgrounds each have a unique feel. The save points are marked with a giant ring with a red sphere in the middle. Accessing these causes the s rings to spin, which was a nice touch.

Overall, I highly recommend adding Circle of the Moon to your collection. Take it from a non-believer, this game is that good.

Classic Konami at its Best.

This is what the Castlevania games are all about. If you are a fan of the old Castlevania series (Castlevania I-IV and the Playstation and Genesis versions) this is a must buy for you. Gorgeous music, gorgeous graphics, and tons of classic Medusa-head, whipping action. Lots of replay value because of the non-linear mapping of the game, and lots of save points which is perfect for a portable system. Highly recommended! The Gameboy Advance is giving all the great 2D games a new revival!

Back to the 2d castlevania days

This is a game programmmed with great detail. It will bring you back to the castlevania days before the series ruining n64 game. the backgrounds are so vivid, you can easily get the image of being in Dracula's castle. the game is made with so much detail that it rivals some of the n64 games.

It is challenging for most, and with the new dss (dual setup system) it reallly shines. As you destroy enemies, dss cards randomly appear and you can then use them for their powers. the dss system has more than 80 effects that use up mind power, creating a never ending expanse of possibillity.

You storm through Dracula's castle fighting his minions and gaining experiance points to go up levels. You then fight bosses and move around collecting items to improve defense or attack. The graphics and color of this game are just superb, and the wide screen of the game boy advance drastically improves the side scrolling action.

After you beat the game, you can then go through the game again with all dss cards, creating a much different feel, making you want to play the game all over again. It is definitly worth buying as a first game, atop priority over super mario advance and maybe een tony hawk pro skater 2. If you pick up this game, you will right away see the amount of detail put into the making of this great program.

If you've never played any CV game, you should start w/ this

Like most people out there,I am one of those gamers that likes to try any game at least once before judging it.I've seen and heard about Castlevania games being so cool, but I never picked one up and played.I heard people saying that the game was good so I decided to go ahead on pick it up..and "wow" was I amazed. This game rocks. At first it may seem hard but once you get use to the controls and get the hang of the magic system it's really easy. This game is also quite challenging.I love the idea of real-time combat RPG feel. Its a lot better than random battles. The enemies are really detailed so you can see what they are doing. This game tough at times is quite dark and I recommend playing in a bright room or buy a light.Really great music also. The intro music sends chills down your spine. The magic spells are also well detailed and well animated.Lots of spells that total to 100 different spells. If you want a game that lasts for more than a month or if youve never played any Castlevania game,I recommend this game to you.You WILL get your money's worth.Trust me.I played games for the longest time.

Castlevanyia slays the rest

Castlevanyia is a very chalinging but fun game. The one little problem with this game is that the graphics are very dark and you almost always need an overhead lightsource to see so i would also recomend getting a shark light, a worm lightn or a fliplight along with this game. I would recomend this game to Cstlevanyia symphony of the night players and kids 9 and up.

A cool game with a dark background.

Castlevania is a side-scrolling game made by Konami. You are this vampire hunter in-training, but you have this weapon called The Hunter's Whip. The pros about this game are that it has good controls and has the same kind of meters that Diablo has: Magic Power, and Health Points. It also has good background graphics, and it's fun to jump on the platforms and kick badguy [back side]. The cons about this game are that its a ver dark game and you can't see it very well. Plus, its really hard to get past some parts of the game. But all and all, its a great game and its worth the [$] price tag.

Almost as good as the real thing

You think Castlevania SotN was good for a console game wait until you play Castlevania CotM for GBA, this must be the best action adventure game ever for a handheld...the graphics, the sound, the gameplay, everything just mixed perfect in this piece of art...

A must have for every GBA owner, thrust me you won't regret buying this one...

Let's just hope that Konami keep making "Castlevania" games like this one for the Gamecube...

Easily the best launch game to the handheld console!

When I bought the GBA I wanted a really good game to start with, and this is a really good game! First of all the graphics are superb (when you have a lot of light) and the sound is easily the best ever on the GBA. The soundeffects includes high pitched women screams and alot of other things too. The music is really good (for the first time). I would give:
Sound: 5/5, the music is superb and with really good soundeffects.
Graphics: 5/5, enhancing graphics but sometimes a little dark.

Controll: 5/5, almost perfeckt.
Lasting: 5/5, Draculas castle is really huge and with the five different characters it could last forever.

Not that great

I consider myself a Castlevania enthusiast, I have Castlevania's 1-4, Bloolines, Castlevania Adventures 1, Castlevania Chronicles, and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night as well as the 2 Castlevanias for N64. When I got Circle of the Moon I couldn't wait to play it, hearing that it is a Gameboy Advance "version" of Symphony of the Night. Yet I was very disappointed with COTM. The biggest problem is the screen for the Gameboy Advance. I have been giving myself back pains getting into various positions just to see the screen. And it really stinks. Case in point, a lot of the monsters are darkly colored and you can barely see them. I quickly lost interest in playing COTM because of the screen problem, it's just too much of a hassle. And as good as the COTM is, I can't appreciate it because I have to keep turning the Gameboy just so I can see where I'm being hit from. I can't really tell if I having fun turning all different ways to see the screen or not.

What I suggest is to get Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, beat it as Alucard, then play it as Richter which makes the game totally more fun and challenging, thus quenching the thirst of fighting with the whip again.

Castlevania: Circle of the Moon may be a good game, but it's hard to tell due to the screen. My opinion, wait until Castlevania: White Night Concerto or "Harmony of Dissidence" comes out in June of this year. It has all the goods that Circle of the Moon is supposed to have, and it's supposed to have better coloring than Circle of the Moon. Goodluck!
