My 18 year old loved this gift. His 16 year old brother and all their friends have enjoyed it too. Consider a cordless guitar as an additional purchase. I'll be adding that to our collection soon.
Incredible game!

How good is your pinky finger? Well you better work on it because this game will test your dexterity. Excellent gameplay with very popular music. With four difficulty levels, you can play the basic rhythms up to nearly impossible riffs. Once you pick it up, you won't want to stop!

I purchased this game for my brother who loves video games and he absolutly loved it! As he practiced I read the instruction booklet to him and gave him some hints that made it easier. He played the game long into the night of his birthday, and he still loves it. It is a fun game with many levels of play and difficulty. The only thing I didn't like was after watching the screen so intently for the notes, after looking away, things look odd, but I'm sure you get used to that. Otherwise a wonderful game!!!

I purchased the guitar hero II bundle as a present for my grandson's 13th birthday. It was a super hit. The adults and teenagers loved the game and spent hours competing with each other. It was instant fun and easy to learn.

First of all I have to say that if you don't own this game you MUST BUY IT. Its probably one of the greatest games of all time.
Pros:
1.Great song selection. Almost all of the songs are great except for a couple like Psychobilly Freakout that you will never hear on the radio
2.The gameplay is awesome. This is probably one of the best games I have ever played. Redoctane and Harmonix had a great idea for a game when they came up with the consept
3.The multiplayer is good if you want to see who is better.
Cons:
1.Most of the songs are covers instead of the actual artists. If the song says "As Made Famous By" it is a cover.
2.On some of the guitars there is a problem with the wammy bar, causing it to stop reading for a few seconds. Its just a distraction sometimes.
3.There are a few songs that are almost impossible (Jordan by Buckethead)
Other than those 2 cons this is a great game overall. It may take a little time to get used to, but dont give up after a few songs. You just have to be patient and this game will become addictive and you wont want to put it down.

Guitar Hero II is the sequel to the guitar-sim game, Guitar Hero. Now available for Xbox 360, users can play online with anyone. Guitar Hero II is MUCH better then the first game. The first difference is the hammer-on / pull-off system. It is much easier compared to the first game but the songs themselves got harder. This game's tracklist is VERY good, featuring some of your favorite rock band's music. Another great new feature I enjoy is online play. There's nothing like playing against people across the world. They've also created a bass guitar mode which is great for some co-op fun between friend who don't wanna compete. There's also a competitive mode which was in the previous game. Overall I really enjoyed Guitar Hero II, if you enjoyed the first game this is worth picking up.

When I first played Guitar Hero, I thought that it was a good game; a game to expose today's youth to our musical heritage as well as provide an alternative to the other game franchises that cropped up and garnered media attention, namely Grand Theft Auto. With the release of the second Guitar Hero, i was expecting the same basic game with a new song list. What i got was a superior product to the first in more ways than just its songs. The multiplayer system had been revamped and improved with the addition of the Pro-Face Off as well as a Co-op Mode in addition to the original face-off mode. the addition of encores in the career made the game more realistic in that a good performance often begs for an encore, thus making the feeling of being an actual rock star more tangible and appealing. but what really sold the game was the final encore of the game, Freebird. This was the song that made an already amazing song list even better, allowing gamers, casual or otherwise to experiance one of the best rock athems to have ever been written.
Overall, this game is well worth paying for, but with the recent advent of Guitar Hero III, it'd be more worthwhile to buy the GH3 packaged deal with game and guitar, and just buy the individual game for GH and GH2.
