I am getting this information from my son, for whom I purchased this game. He said it is fun and pretty challenging the more advanced you get in the game. The keys are pretty easy to manipulate and seem to strike on target, unlike some games where you 'swear' you hit the right key and you still lose. Overall, it's been a winner in our house.

This was a fun game but for us older guitar players, perhaps a different type of music would have been more fun. Most of the music was heavy metal, etc. But it was fun. I didn't like the sound of the keys hitting the guitar neck. It made a dull, clunky sound. Just needs a variety of music.
less metal, more classic rock

loved guitar hero 1, and # 2 makes vast improvements in the practice and cooperative modes, but the songlist . . they have 7-8 great songs, and the rest everybody I talk to just skips over them. Now, it they were smart they would come out with a classic rock version, a blues version, and a metal version

Bought Guitar Hero I last year for my nephew's birthday and he absolutely loved it. So, this year I bought the newer version so he can duel with his younger brother. What a hit. I watched them play and it is a hoot!
I'm the favorite auntie now!

1 word to describe this game....WOW! It is without a doubt the BEST videogame I have ever played. Basically, you have a guitar with 5 frets on them. When the color note passes a target, you hold down that fret and strum. There are also chords, 2 or 3 frets played at once, which make the game even harder. If you struggle with this game, get the first one. It is much easier, but this game has better music and is a better overall game. If you are thinking about getting the game, and maybe are worried about the price, GET IT! This is the ONLY videogame worth its price.
Fantastic!

My friend had gotten the first guitar hero and I thought that was a lot of fun, so I went out and got it. After mastering the first game, I bought the second a week after the release. I played through the whole career on hard in a day, then I beat in on expert in a week.
It was a bit too fast, and some songs were a bit lacking.
And there are some songs that are downright impossible in guitar hero 2 like jordan on expert.

I fell in love with the series of Guitar Hero when I first played it in 2 player mode against a friend. NOTE this game is for INTELLECTUALLY inclined GameHeads only, If RHYTHMICALLY challenged you might hurt yourself. BEST GAME EVER

Nice change for a video game! No killing, and no profanity! It's easy enough for different ages, and has different levels of play. The person is actually playing the guitar with a guitar, not a joystick. We've had it for over a month, and all works great!
So much fun I can hardly stand it

It's already been said a million times, but Guitar Hero 2 is an exceptional gaming experience. The game does a remarkable job of transporting you into the shoes of a guitar-strumming maniac, and provides various levels of challenge for players.
The game definitely requires some dexterity, so I would recommend this for the 6-99 age range... little kids under this age won't be able to use the frets well enough to play.
The songs are great, featuring a solid mix of 80's, classic rock, newer bands, and unlockable tracks with less-known artists.
All in all, a fantastic game. Buy it if you have any interest whatsoever.
