I just got this game today, and so far, I'm very impressed. I had to choose between this and Kirby: Nightmare in Dreamland, neither of which I had played on the NES or SNES. I chose Super Mario World (DUH), and I'm very happy with my choice. In this review, I'm not gonna rave about how classic the SNES version was or how perfectly it was ported to the Game Boy. This is a review for people who never played the 16-bit version.
GAMPELAY: 9/10
In this game, you play as Mario or Luigi through the 96 worlds to rescue Princess Peach. The different levels consist of the classic platform-jumping, coin-collecting, fireball-throwing gameplay found in most Mario games, which is always fun.
GRAPHICS: 9/10
The graphics are very nice. Every level is really colorful and makes you feel like you're in Mario's world. There is not much else to say about the graphics, just that they take good advantage of the GBA's system capabilities.
CONTROLS: 8/10
As for the controls, my one problem is that you keep sliding across the ground when you land from a jump or stop running. I've lost a life several times because of that. Aside from that, though, the controls are pretty tight. The spin jump is cool, especially when you're on a Yoshi, because you can jump into the air and press R to spin jump off of Yoshi's back and reach blocks twice as high as you normally could.
VARIETY: 8/10
The items are pretty cool. The Feather is a nice addition and the Fireflower is still as cool as ever. One thing I have never noticed in other Mario games is the ability to reserve items. For instance, say you have a Feather, then get a Fireflower. When you come to an area where the Feather would be useful or take damage and lose the Fireflower, just press Select and a Feather will drop drop down onto Mario or Luigi. In the case that you still had the Fireflower when you pressed Select, the Fireflower will be reserved for future use. The same goes with Super Mushrooms.
VALUE: 10/10
The playing value (not educational value) is great too. There's such an abundance of secrets that even I, who am normally pretty bad at Mario games, have discovered 2 in the 7 or so levels that I've played. As I said earlier, there are 96 levels to unlock, some more frusturating than others. Most people will be playing for a long time before they can unlock every level.
SOUND: 7/10
The sound is decent, while not spectacular. The music is very Marioish, which is a good thing. The voice effects for Mario and Luigi can be kind of annoying, but it's not too bad.
OVERALL: 9/10
No, I don't suck at math and the overall score is not an average of the 6 categories. I recommend this game to everyone, especially those who like Mario and/or side-scrolling adventure games. Do not miss out on this game.

Ever since I inserted the Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2 into my GAMEBOY advance, it seemed almost impossible to put it down. There were 96 levels full of obstacle courses ahead. The journey to save the kidnapped Princess Peach was on!
The game starts at Yoshi's House in Dinosaur Land. You simply walk to one of the two starting levels. After finishing a level, you'll uncover a path leading to new levels. There are all sorts of levels, land, water, caves, ghost-houses, castles,
and fortresses.
I enjoyed the secret exits to some levels. They lead to secret levels that usually are shortcuts. But the secret world called Star World was my favorite. I had even more fun finding the secret exits of a secret level.
I also enjoyed the game's means of transport. You can walk, run, fly, swim, or ride Yoshi. There are also other ways depending on what level you're on.
I'm having lots of fun!

Flashback to the Christmas 1993. I first received my Super Nintendo, and Super Mario World came with the console (this was back when you got the system and a game all in one box for $129.00). I played this game for hours, and I eventually beaten it in about 3 years, due to on and off play. Eventually I sold my system and all my games. But just recently I decided to pick up "Super Mario World" on gameboy advance about a week ago. The game is still fun to play. You get the traditional powers like the mushroom and the fire flower. The new addition you receive is a cape (if you played Super Mario 3, it is exactly the racoon tail power). Also this game introduced Yoshi and his friends (different color Yoshis). There are also newer enemies in this game that may come pretty tough to beat. Whats also good is that you can store powers in that blue box at the top of the screen, which can come in handy as well.
There are some modifications on the GBA than the SNES versions. One that stood out to me was that you can either play with Mario or Luigi on any level, and you can switch them out whenever you feel. Also if you played with Luigi, you'll notice the awkward jump that he has (if you played Super Mario 2, you'll remember that the way he jumped he kicked his legs in the air. He does that on here as well). Another modification is that the game is much easier as it was on SNES. When Mario or Luigi was hit by an enemy of some kind, they would return back small on the SNES. Here on the GBA version, if you're hit, you'll return back to Super Mario or Luigi (you'll return to the power that you have when you received the mushroom), making you have more chances before you loose a life. One other modification I seemed to notice is that if you beat any Star Road levels (on the map screen you'll see a star that will take you to some hidden levels), you remember that is where you can get the different color Yoshi's (red, blue, and yellow). Well here on the GBA, the Star Road levels are not the only place you can access the diffent color Yoshi's. You can actually get them almost on any level now. If you know what item boxes on the levels that will pop out a Yoshi, you can get them in different colors now. Thats actually a good thing to me now, because they are more accessable than having to only go to one place. Also Yoshi can eat and spit out more items now, which is also a good thing as well. Also the characters talk, which I'm getting used to now.
Well I'm glad I have this game. It is very fun to play. It takes me back to my child hood days when I had this on SNES. I've already beaten this game (I took the Star Road shortcut). This game is pretty easier than it was on SNES. I love it and I recommend it to all ages.
Also this game come with the Arcade version of Super Mario. That is the game where you hit the enemies from underneith and go up and kick them for points. I think they put that in every Super Mario advance games for GBA. This game will keep you occupied for a while and will bring lots of fun to your playing experience.
Mario at his best.

All right, after reading the various reviews posted for this game, I decided it would be beneficial for a review to be posted that is a little more detailed. So, here is why Super Mario World is such a good game. Picture the time this game was released, back when NES was the big thing and there were not any graphically impressive games. Then Nintendo releases Super Nintendo and this game. The response was tremendous. Graphics were bright and somewhat dimensional, the game was expansive with hidden areas. The same holds true for this GBA version of the game. All the 75 or so areas are there, the multiple colored yoshis in the star world to be found and used, the now classic power ups. Mario can get a cape that allows him to fly, on his own or with yoshi. I won't bother saying everything, for there is no need. Suffice it to say that this game is definately worth getting. Nostalgia aside, it is an excellent game.
Same great game as before.

This game is identical to the Super Mario World you played on Super Nintendo. For those of you who, like myself, grew up in the Super Nintendo era, this will come as a nice suprise. They've added voice-overs when you get power ups, die, and for several other things. This eventually becomes annoying but not so much so that it takes away from the fun and nostalgia.
For those of you who are younger and have never played this before, (which I can't imagine) this game is a classic Mario saves the Princess from Bowser. However it takes place in Dinosaur Land and there are many power ups such as the cape and balloon. Also the levels are beautifully laid out, many of which have two exits which determine which way through the game you progress. There are many, many hidden power up zones and side shows to find and master. And at the end if you finish the game and get everything in it, Mario will do a disco dance until the fashion police show up and drag him away.
Super Mario World is a nice treat.

One of the greatest SNES games of all time comes to the GBA in this re-release. Super Mario World for some actually came with the Super Nintendo so I've no doubt people have played it before. It's still a classic years later and not much really holds it down.
The graphics are about the same as they were on the SNES. Some of them look smoother and more lavish than they did before. Other than that there is no real different that you'd take direct notice to in the graphics of this game. The game moves at faster speeds as well, but again nothing you won't remember from the original SNES release.
The gameplay is also more or less the same. A few differences are clear, such as the game is now only one player and not two. You still select levels that you want to go to. If it has a yellow mark there is only one exit and therefore the level is straight forward. If the mark is red that means there is more than one exit in a level. This allows more exploration than that of Super Mario Brothers 3. You'll find many different ways to go through levels, eventually finding all 96 exits.
I'm assuming we all know the power-ups but let's review. The super mushroom of course turns a small Mario into Super Mario. The flower gives him flower power and the feather lets him and smack people with his cape. Mario can also exececute spin jumps to kill enemies. Simple gameplay that hasn't changed much from previous Mario games.
My con with the gameplay is that the game has been toned down and made easier. Things that would normally kill you in one hit rather you were big or small (Such as the spikes in Castle 6) no longer do that. Also, I remember in the SNES version that when you were hit by an enemy while you were Flower or Cape Mario, you were instantly small again. In this one if you have a feather or flower power up then you instantly go back to Super Mario and then you'll have to be hit again to go back to small Mario. Amazingly enough that one thing brings the difficulty of the game down greatly. There are power ups in every other box.
The story in this is that Bowswer has kidnapped Princess Toadstool and Yoshi's friends. Each world has a castle that you must destroy by defeating the castle boss. Defeating the boss rescues one of Yoshi's friends. Once you find all of Yoshi's friends you can take the battle to Bowser himself.
Mario World is a rather large game. There is no one set path to complete this game in. It's possible to complete the game after finding as littls as 12 exits if you're good enough. That's because there are warps in certain worlds that take you to others with little hassle.
Oh yeah the original Mario Bros. is on this one but if you have the first Mario Advance or any other one you'll probably ignore this one.
To sum it all up, Mario World is a Mario game worth playing. You'll find yourself playing it again and again and the 96 exits will keep you busy for a while. Great game! Worth the buy if you don't have it on SNES.
And I Thought Mario Was Just A Legend...

It's been what? Twelve years ago when Nintend introuduced America to Super Mario Bros. And a several years later...they return, better than ever. If you ask me, I love this game! And did you now that you can even play as Luigi in the game?! I was like amazed! They have cool voice overs for the characters when you play them. They color is brilliant, and you just can't seem to put the dern thing down! You can take this portable game
wherever you want. The thing that blew my mind the most out of this game is the quality of it. You can enter a whole new world, where you can fly, swim, duck, jump, run, and explore new and exciting places that you've never seen come to life in your own hands! I believe Mario is the greatest platform game out of them all. It's wonderful, and the Super Mario Bros. still lives! I'd highly recommend this video game for any Mario frantics!

This game is almsot exactly the same as the SNES version which is certainly not a bad thing. The graphics are amzing, even betetr than the SNES version. If you haven't played this game before and own a Game Boy Advance you sure are missing a lot.
The concept is easy. You go around at each place earning extra lives by getting coins and special mushrooms. You also try to get Yoshi and kill the enemies. At the end of each level you try and kill the boss at the castles. There are also many scret areas thta you need to beat the game...
However the buttons are very crowded and hard to get used to after playing systems with controllers like Dreamcast, PS2, etc.
If you are a NIntendo fan I reccommend getting this game. It's unbelieveable that this game is only [price]! Once again Nintendo makes a great game.

It seems like only yesterday when we lived in the classic days of video gaming. It was an era where 2-dimensions reigned supreme, and unforgettable characters such as Mario, Luigi, Sonic, Mega Man, and Ryu controlled the gaming industry. One can only imagine how I felt when Nintendo began to release classic games for Game Boy Advance, and the newest release brings back so many fond memories.
Super Mario World was and still is a game of mass proportions. It towered over all the other games during the early 90's, for it offered simply better and bigger game play. Game Boy Advance has recreated the emotional ride that Yoshi first brought to gamers back then, and then some.
GBA has managed to cram in each and every one of the original 96 levels present on the original Super Nintendo version on the latest upgrade. Dinosaur Land, a massive landscape that Mario and Luigi (Yes, Luigi finally gets some action!) explore, includes a wide variety of environments, including Donut Plains, Vanilla Dome, Cookie Mountain, and the every so tricky Forest of Illusion. Each area has around 10 levels, some which are available by progress, and yet many many others that can be opened by finding hidden areas in various stages. Most levels have two exits, meaning that there is truly way more than one way to beat worlds, and the game.
In the game, gamers will encounter those classic characters we all grew up with. Just about every stage includes Koopa Troopas, and using their shells as weapons is still as fun as ever. Every now and then boos make their familiar routine of stalking Mario, in the many "ghost house" levels in the game. Thwomps, the so-called "stone guardians", can also be seen attempting to block Mario's path quite frequently. Don't think, however, that Mario has to go at these enemies alone, for Mario receives power-ups quite frequently, including mushrooms, fire flowers, and the ultimate power-up the flying feather. To add to this, Yoshi makes his first cameo appearance to help Mario along the way.
At the end of worlds you better hope that you are powered up, for the head bosses are quite a challenge. Bowser has sent out all of his dominions, The Koopalings, to wreck havoc for Mario. Beating out Ludwig, Roy, Morton, as well as others, will be quite the feat, not to mention the Reznors, fire breathing rhinos, who will go any lengths to drown Mario in a pool of lava.
All and all Nintendo has recreated one of the most jaw-dropping games, and the experience all takes place in your very own hands. Game Boy Advance is able to breath new life into a classic game, and do it all with sharp graphics, fluid game play, and of course Super Mario World classic tunes. So, go out and save Princess Toadstool from Bowser again, and relive one of greatest games to date.

Using the newest portable technology from Nintendo, you can play just about all your favorite games on the new Game Boy Advance. Super Mario World is my favorite game on super nintendo because instead of the average game with only 20 to 30 levels, you get 96 levels in all!You can play with either Mario or Luigi, and you get a yoshi on some levels.Yoshi comes in different colors(green, yellow, red and blue)and helps you a lot on some of these levels. This game has 9 worlds and has ghost houses, secret levels,*SPECIAL*levels, flying levels(which some need Yoshi),stragety levels, castles and more!Plus, you get the second Super Mario Advance game which is the continuation of the awesome Super Mario Advance game which is also on Game Boy Advance(GBA)!!! I would reccomend this game for kids AND teens (cause it gets addicting).I would rate this game a ***** star game.Plus its rated E for everyone!...
