Sincerely the BEST GAME EVER

Neverwinter Nights is one of the greatest RPG's (role-playing games) of all times, and I have played a lot of PC game through out my life. It has great graphics and an exciting plot. Also, it has a great attack system. The only cons I can think of are the loading screens, but they are pretty quick. This game is based on the D&D 3.0 rules, but even if you've never played D&D, like me, the game is still easy and fun to play. This game also has great sounds (including voices and battle sounds) and is "addicting". It will take you weeks or months to finish this game and even longer if you do all of the side quests. With the great toolset that comes with it, you can easily make your own adventures and quests. Lastly, it features a free online multiplayer option that works very well. This is a "must buy" for any one who enjoys PC games.

VERY IMMERSIVE D&D EXPERIENCE WITH 3RD EDITION RULES

I've been playing Dungeons and Dragons (paper and dice game) since the late 1980's, and I can tell you that this computer game is the closest thing to the old-school version. The world is overwhelming, the cities are full of people, The storyline is excellent, the graphics and magical effects are breathtaking, and the 3-D world can bee navigated easily with a camera mode that the player can control, including rotating 360 degrees and zoom in/out. The game is similar to the Baldur's Gate series (also Forgotten Realms), so if you've played those before you will easily learn Neverwinter.

The game can seem extremely complex at first, with all the character sheets and inventory menu screens, but with time anyone interested in these kinds of games should have no problem mastering the basic controls and concepts.

I was going to give Neverwinter Nights one star because of its horrid performance on my P4 1.5Ghz 256mb RAM computer, but then I realized my computer crashed a year ago and I had forgotten to load my vdeo card driver software. Even still, this game requires a hefty amount of hardware to run.

It stinks

The single player stoyline is boring, boring, boring. That's all I can say. All you do is run around and smash open boxes with the help of your zombie like henchman. No party, no great story line like BGII.

This game is almost as boring as the hated Pool Of Radience.

Taking out the single player party interaction was a big mistake. Most of us have a life and don't have time to hook up with people online for regular gameplay. So this is a online-gaming-fanantic-need-only-apply game.

The graphics are pretty good, but nothing can save it from 1 star.

Good game, but could have been a lot better.

Ah, Neverwinter Nights. How to begin? Third edition rules. This was the strong point. Third edition worked well, and I definately understood the game a lot more than when I played Baldur's Gate. But once we start comparing to the BG games, that's where NWN falls down. BG2 was far longer than NWN, the six-character party allowed for far greater interaction between you and your companions (in fact, NWN requires you to interrogate your henchman almost constantly to get any information out of them at all) and was overall deeper and more enjoyable to play. BG2 made me laugh for days and kept me playing all night (NWN easter eggs are pretty much limited to Aribeth's bralessness. It's there, look closely. Check out gnome ears, too). The graphics, though certainly impressively 3D, lacked the refreshment of BG2, the tileset stamping obvious and dull. The AI falls down fairly often, as well, NPCs getting stuck on everything (I took down two dragons with a crossbow just by moving to the other side of a rock). The module system is great, certainly, but the limitations of terrain and especially creatures ruin it for me. (No beholders? Gnolls? Kobolds? Hobgoblins? Illithid?) Still a great game, but a dissapointment. Not that that stops me playing it too much.

false advertising at Bioware

i recently purchased this games as a hopes that it would be a great game that i could enjoy just as much as i have with Baldurs Gate 2
but i realized after first trying it that this game was a bomb.
first it was advertised as being available for all three operating sysems. and that is one of the main reason i got it was so that it would work on my linux system. i cannot even install it for linux because i do not think it was truely made for linux.
next on windows it stutters terribly and looks horrid.
my main recomandation is that if you are looking for a great rpg game stick with baldurs gate 2 or wait for icewind dale 2
thank you.

Fantastic game!

This easily has to be one of my favorite games right now. Actually I just finished it and am working on Hordes of Underdark. Which I am so far thrilled with, and am glad I got to use my previous character since there are tons of freakin drow. It's challenging to the point at frustration sometimes but eventually you'll win, just be sure and save before the big bosses that's for sure. You'll be fighting those buggers over and over couple times, trust me I've been there.
NWN is a beautiful game, the graphics are great. Detailed backgrounds give life to the stages. You can see the grass swaying in the breeze and a light fog over the forest floor gives it that dark & brooding feeling. The characters looks good as well, except there's not much for facial expressions, meaning none at all. The dialog is pretty deep, which means get ready for lots of talking. It's a little overwhelming at times, but it's important to talk to everyone to get information out of them or quests. I find it helpful to have a character with high CON, since you can persude people to tell you things.
I chose a paladin for that reason, that and I can wear heavy armour & wield a great sword (which is HUGE!!).
The only real problem I had with the game is the bugginess of it. There were a few points where I got stuck and couldn't move, which is infuriating since I had to quit and do that whole dungeon over again. The testers obviously didn't do their job very well. The one henchman is annoying, it's good to have one but would be even better to have another. I would have liked to have a monk or something but am stuck with Tom the thief because I need him to open the doors & chests that I cannot. If you don't have a thief you'll be missing alot of treasures & such, so yah kinda need one. The AI for him is quite a nuisance as well, again with the getting stuck behind things such as crates, buildings, stupid crap.
All in all it's a gorgeous game with great action sequences & an interesting plot line with plently of twists along the way. Haven't done the multiplayer yet but have heard many wonderful things about it. I think it's awesome you can create your own dungeons and have your friends run through them. The whole D&D feel is there, you get to see the dice rolls, and it pretty much goes by the rules from what I can remember. If you're into RPGs or D&D I would definatly pick this up, you'll find yourself addicted in no time.

Want premature white hair? Then definately BUY THIS GAME!

I have never been so angry with a game publisher in my life. I have a relatively new (6 months old) Pentium III 1 GHZ system with 384 MB RAM which runs EVERYTHING I have ever tried without a problem: Diablo II, DungeonSiege, you name it.

Then I installed NWN. I spent over 8 hours trying to get it to work. I updated drivers. I browsed their support forum. And in the end, I paid $150 to have my computer rebuilt and spent another 8 hours re-installing all of my software.

What do the developers say in response? "Hey, it works on our computers -- we've been playing it 8 hours a day!" (paraphrase, not exact quote). Well, I'm very glad they've spent their time writing a game that they can play -- I hope they have fun with it. I just think it is incredibly stupid and unprofessional to release software of such poor quality. Maybe the game is great, but the deployment package is absurd.

Having sunk a few dozen hours into Neverwinter Nights, I can now say that this game is pretty much what it was promised to be. Pretty much? Well, here's the short version: The game delivers true 3rd edition Dungeons and Dragons mechanics, has a good storyline, and shows room for extensive creative control with the bundled editing tools. On the downside, Bioware seems to have bungled the release a bit.

Here's the detailed version:

The Good: If you're a fan of tabletop D&D, you're going to be happy with NeverWinter Nights. This game includes the most full conversion of D&D to a computing platform yet. Not all things are literal: tedious and slow things have been moved out of realtime. (i.e. You don't actually wait 10 minutes to search for traps, or 8 hours to rest your character.) The storyline of the single player gameis what we've come to expect from Bioware. You get plenty of choices for how you want to solve things, and the story has more depth than you find in most PC games. The editor shows much promise, and you can already find a great deal of information between books and the net on how to do the advanced C coding with it that it takes to make the really cool stuff happen in the game.

The Bad: Looks like Bioware did rush this game out a bit, despite their denials. Amongst my many friends who got the game, they'r about batting 50/50 for successful installs & crash free play. Out of the two copies I got, one had a misprinted CD-Key with no good resolution for the issue. I've found that I need to reboot the computer after a few hours of play as the graphics become choppier and choppier. I've only had one hard crash, however. You can find a long list of specific complaints on the online forums for other things that have gone wrong for people. All that being said, the game runs well under the circumstances I typically play it.

The Elf Paladin Hottie: Is present, filling the Elf Hottie Online RPG minimums. Other hottie options are present, including ones for female players.

Anyone who even remotely hints that there is a major flaw in this game concept is just not a real role-play gammer. I understand with the recent years games being totally based on stats and xp and gold accumialated that one could be confused by this idea. But anyone who has played Pen & Paper D&D will see this game a dream come true. It will allow gamers like myself who live around the world to get together with friends long since parted ways and enjoy an experience that was so memorable to them years ago.

i waited years for this?

i am a dnd player, so i have been awaiting this game for quite some time to see if it lives up to its promises. i bought the game the day it came out, bout a new video card, and was nearly shaking with joy that it was finally here! i went home instlled my new video card, plopped in the game, and plopped in neverwinter.i started the character creation and it was skippin like crazy.i thought, hmmm maybe it is just that part. so i went into the game, and magicaly my character would start teleporting across the screen. so it has been a few months, patches and so forth, and no fixes. i updated all my drivers, and still dosnt work. so i became sick of the game and turned it in for a great game, Morrowind. this game has depth, u can do anything, i have played over 100 hrs and still havnt touched the main story line. def. get this game instead of neverwinter. oh yea and i know that this game is mainly for the editor, we'll at at least morrowinds open'd for me! unlike neverwinters, which gaveme some error message. def go get morrowind.
