Grand Theft Auto IV is the game that all GTA fans have awaited for. It is the game that brings all GTA games into one complete and unique game. The gameplay is superb, combat fighting is amazing, graphics - need I say more??, humour level is high, and the good ole fashion fun in all GTA games. The game is very in depth allowing each city, area, location, gun, person, yourself, etc. to be presented in such a way that makes you more compelled to be involved. I highly recommend this game for any GTA fan and those who are wanting a diverse gameplay. This game is clearly worth more than $59.99 and I guarantee anyone that plays it will play it more than once and spend at least 50 hours. During economic stagflation, why not get a good deal?

This has got to be one of the coolest games I have ever played. I had never tried any game from the Grand Theft Auto series before. Decided to just buy it and see what all the hype was about. Especially since it got a perfect rating with just about every review it got. IGN/Team Xbox gave it a perfect 10.0 rating, X-Play tv show from G4 tech tv gave it a perfect 5.0 and pc magazine gave it an excellent with pc editors choice award. I really love this game. It is so different from the other games out there. It is also really really versatile. You are able to do many different things. From driving cars, fly helicopters, driving boats, using all kinds of weapons. Using a cell phone, watching tv, surfing the net. The list goes on and on. The multiplayer is just awesome. I have only tried about 5 modes out of the 15 but they were really cool. You are able to play with up to 15 other people. This game is definitely worth the money. The xbox 360 version is better because come fall 2008 you will be able to download additional episodes so the adventure never stops.
Probably a 4.5 star

I think this game is great and most sites are giving it a 5 star or 10/10, but I am holding back that rating simply on the fact that this is more of the same.
Now, with that being said, it is the same amount of fun and it is still awesome story, etc., but to me it feels more like a GTA III than a IV. Rockstar has added a lot of little things like extra animations to make it more fluid and more lifelike (simple things like walking up and down stairs, lighting effects with street lights to cell phone integration so you can choose when to start missions, etc.)
This is a really fun game and I will probably spend way too much time on my 360 playing it, but if you are expecting something completely different or advanced from GTA III, then you might, and I stress might, be disappointed.
Still fun to play and probably will be best game of the year.
so much fun!

If you have a 360 and you don't have this game, you're seriously missing out. IMO, the multiplayer alone is worth $60 in case you're bored of mission-style gameplay.
Great Game

Fun and addicting, I usually didnt like the previous few gta because they tried to add too much, this is not simple but only complex enough to add depth and move the story line forward as much as and as quickly as you want to progress it. Addicting too because I just want to beat the game, interesting story line as well, kind of predictable but otherwise an all around fun game to play
The Hype Train runs over humanity once again.

Everyone knows what GTA is and what its supposed to be by now and whether they will buy it or attempt to condemn it to the gates of hell for all eternity, so I'm not going to try to convince anyone that GTA4 is trash or god's gift to man (and the religious references just keep on rolling. Sorry about that, religous nutjobs.)
It seems like everyone and their mother wants to put this game on a pedistal and say "look, society has finally created its own GOD!" So many perfect scores are being thrown to GTA 4, that Hello Kitty Roller Adventure is trying to get caught in the crossfire.
"So, Hunter, if every major game magazine is saying it's the most perfect game in the world, why should we think carefully before buying?"
Well, disembodied voice, two reasons.
One- Those magazines were pushing GTA 4's grrrrreat(!)ness since they had first heard about it, and were getting loads of advertising bucks from Rockstar and 2K for splattering GTA over their magazines. They weren't the most unbiased group of reviewers before they named GTA "Greatest Game In The Universe," and they certainly weren't unbiased during or after.
And Dos- I've finished GTA, and it's nowhere close to perfect. I was hooked on the storyline, Niko is actually a likeable character(which is a first for rockstar), the shooting is much better (though still very wonky), graphics are good looking, and the music is great, as usual.
But the problems are just as obvious. Everything gets old fast, and once you beat the storyline, there's not much left. After the final mission, you'll end up drifting around, going on stupid "make-me-happy" dates, realize how dull looking the city is, and end up starting killing sprees that end becoming formulaic and boring.
The reason is because there is just not enough to do. GTA's 3, Vice City, and San Andreas all had a bunch of fun little side quests and assorted gimmicks to keep people from getting stuck in the duldrums of driving around a drab cityscape. GTA 4 skimps out on a lot of that. Rockstar expects that people are going to instead play multiplayer, but with horrible servers, incredible lag, and some of the most annoying people to have ever been born playing online, I'm not sure how well that'll work out in the long run.
That said, you should still consider getting GTA 4. I did like it, it's just that I probably won't play it that much anymore, at least until the downloadable content shows up. I would suggest getting another game for after you finish, though.
Good game, NOT for everyone

I bought this game even though I never played any of the GTA games. I went on the fact that everyone in the field gave it a 10/10.
I bought this game yesterday and sold it today on ebay. I guess it is not for me. The story is way too slow. I played for three hours and all I had done is drive all over hell's half acre, stole some cars, got into some fights and took some chick out on a date. I never touched a gun or did any cool missions.
I guess this game is not for me, too slow.

The graphics, level of detail in both environment and characters, music, and plot are all very good. However, it seems Rockstar took a very big step backwards with the player control (both on foot and driving) and camera angles. I actually start getting a headache after an hour or so playing this game because of the horrible camera angles. Turning corners while driving requires you to use the left stick to turn and the right stick to look in that direction to prevent smashing into another car. This game would be a 10/10 or 5 star if they took the controls and camera from GTA III and put it in this game. It's too bad because this game is amazing but I just can't get past the controls and camera. You may want to rent it first (if you can find a copy that is not being rented) before dropping $60 on it.
