Best LOTR game ever!

I had to get this game as soon as it came out, because I loved TTT, and this game was supposed to be as good or better. It turned out to be better! This game adds to the adventure of the last game, with many choosable characters and new and exciting levels. One can set out on the adventure as Frodo, Sam, Gimli, Gandalf, Legolas, Aragorn, or 3 other secret characters that are unlocked when you complete the game. The coop multiplayer was a much expected must-have for this game; I always wanted to play TTT with friends but it was only 1-player. In this title, the gamer plays separate levels for the different groups. Legolas, Gimli, and Aragorn go one direction, while Sam and Frodo travel in another, with Gandalf taking the other side and merging with the rest on the last couple levels. All in all, this is a great game, and I highly recommend purchasing it!

Awesome Game

The Return of the King is an excellent game. The story line is a little different from the movie but is still fun.

GRAPHICS- The graphics are unbelievable, when I first got ROTK I was stunned at the how great the graphics were. But, on one or two levels when "bombs" come down close to you, the graphics get a LITTLE shaky. Just a little. The faces of the characters make you feel almost like your watching a movie.

SOUNDTRACK- The Return of the King does not allow custom soundtracks, but when you have original soundtracks from the movie, who cares!

EASE of USE- Starting the game up is very easy, although you have to watch 10 minutes of LOTR stuff. Which isn't always bad, unless you're there to play the game. Controlling the characters couldn't be easier. Doing a few things with action button (black button) is a little confusing at first. After the first one or two levels though it's just like swinging your sword.

LIFE SPAN- The life span of ROTK really depends on how big of a gamer you are and how much you like LOTR. For me it will probably be until my XBOX gives out. Don't get me wrong though. I'll definitely get more games and probably quit playing ROTK for a while, but probably I will never quit playing it completely.

PROS- Graphics, soundtrack, ease of use, life span, need I continue??!!

CONS- Personally no cons. Though I must admit the entire game is based on violence. Although it does not contain any bad language, immoral dressing etc., it still may not suitable to some people.

RENT or BUY? I would suggest you rent all games you read reviews on including this one. I have found that a lot of reviews make the game sound better or worse than it really is. I do hope you find this review helpful.

One of my favorites!!

I fell in love with this game the first time I played it. The graphics and the sounds are incredible. The gameplay if fun. It keeps you interested especially since they have three different paths to follow, as well as several different players you can do it with. I play it with my son so having it play in co-op mode is a HUGE benefit and source of enjoyment.

My only gripe is that if you are playing by yourself, it is sometimes hard to build up a player. Locking the game behind you as you progress is really disappointing.

Other than that, fantastic!!!! Highly recommended. A huge improvement over the Two Towers game. I love this game!!

I wanted to really like it but...

Yes, the graphics are pretty neat
Yes, its cool that you get to be all these different characters on their different paths through the game.
I really really wanted to like this game but there are some serious flaws with the game.
SINGLE PLAYER
(1) The checkpoints throughout the levels are few and far between. You typically have to redo your last 15 mins over and over again only to get to the same part that you've had trouble with. As much as I've seen you're lucky if you get more than 1 checkpoint per level.
(2) The camera is on drugs. They want to really give you a sense that you're really part of the lotr by giving you the very cool camera angles and movements. However some things that work in films do NOT work in video games. I kinda liked it at first, but started likingit less when I couldn't a few enemies.
(3) You can not skip the cinematics til you've watched them at least once. I know this may seem petty but trust me, if you're playing this game you've most likely seen the movies and these cinematics are NOT short at all.

MULTIPLAYER (same complaints as single player plus...)
(1) Camera angles suck even more. Camera angles are slightly different in multiplayer to give you and your friend more space on the screen except that you can't see cause everything is further away in a lot of cases.
(2) No checkpoints, only a limited number of respawnings. Its proven to have been extremely anticlimatic...extremely. Again, NO checkpoints in multiplayer.

I had a lot of hopes for this and there a lot of very cool things in this game if you're a fan of LOTR but as for a game its more frustrating than any of my take-home exams this semester.

I am currently playing this on my Xbox, and have been amazed at the superb graphics.Just unbelievable! The game play is pretty fast and frenzied at times, which is just what I like.I admit to having been killed a few times because I was too busy looking the environments over...but I am new to console gaming and wasn't prepared for the quality of the games I've played.
Gameplay is fun, works well and the little snippets of dialog are pretty cool. The music is quite compelling,as well.It fits each scene perfectly.I admit I am stuck in one particular place, but it is only my ineptness that has gotten me there,so I certainly can't blame the game!
If you like beautiful environments(lots of creepy ones,of course),and like your melee fighting fast and frenzied, then this is the game for you.

unbelievable graphics, frantic action, Excellent game!

When I was a child, there was a toy castle put out by fisher-price or playmobil, I forget which. The playset was fun because of the interactivity with catapults, moats, trapdoors and drawbridges. The Return of the King gives you that kind of fun multiplied by 100. Play as any of the major characters from the films and fight off waves of orcs, uruk hai and trolls on top of crumbling castle walls or on battle fields or even in the Crack of Doom. Great with a friend since the screen is not split into two. My favorite stage is getting Samwise up into the orc tower to save Frodo. There are so many creative ways to wipe out large numbers of orcs that it becomes funny. Drop a drawbridge on some, drop a chandelier on others, poor burning oil on some, kick an exploding barrel down on the heads of others. The orcs and uruk hai are so busy fighting each other, you can slip on the ring and wipe them out unnoticed. Well, they do always spot you eventually, and then you better know how to swing that sword. Very cool and mostly very, VERY fun!

THE BEST VIDEO GAME EVER MADE!!!

On Christmas 2003 I got this game from Santa Claus(my first video game)with an XBOX from my mom and dad and I love it! My brothers can't stop doing it either. The only problam is that it is extremely hard to pass a level. The first level helms deep is very easy. But when you get to Paths of the dead, Escape from Osgiliath or Getting to Isengard it gets very tricky. Other than that it is an exceptional game with good graphics, Good music from the films and the voices of the characters in the movie. This is a great game wich you will want to play over and over again!

Amazing Game!!!

This game is fantastic!! Serious WOW factor!! Whether you enjoy the movies or not-this game is a must have! If you like the movies you will go crazy. As you can tell I am throughly enjoying this game and so is my wife. I am always looking for 2 player co-op games and this is the ultimate! The cut scenes and awesome and the unlockable added features ie. interviews and concept art are a great addition. There is nothing more exciting then kicking the crap out of a bunch of orcs. Its not just button mashing as you gain more exp points by better, more difficult kills. You get to use all the characters from the book/movie, and a few unlockable ones too.

Graphics: 100/100
Sound, sound effects: 100/100
Gameplay: 100/100
Ease of use: 100/100
Difficulty: I'm only 25% and I have had to restart a few missions, so I guess its moderately hard.
Fun factor: 100/100

This game is so good I do not feel its necessary to give a more detailed description...IT'S A MUST HAVE!

Goin to be awsome

This game is going be to by far be one of the top games this year, its going to have 10 playable characters including gandalf, the old characters from the Two Towers, frodo, sam, and many others. sick of taking turns with a friend on The Two Towers? now their coop play so you can form your own Fellowship and go on the quest with a friend! you will also be able to shoot catapults, roll boulders, ect. i'm gettn this game the first day it comes out.
