Not bad ... but definitely NOT five stars good.

The combat system for Grandia II is fantastic, as is the character advancement system. Unfortunately the storyline is a bit dull, and after playing Grandia II for a few hours you are bound to recognize a pattern; (WARNING, mini SPOILER BELOW) the pattern goes like this: 1) Town X is troubled by a body part of a dark god. Find the body part and recover it. 2) Walk through two to three mazes to get to the end boss (aka Dark God possessed being) 3) Blast end boss, recover the dark god's body part. 4) Go to next town. 5) Repeat. That's it, for about thirty to forty hours or so. I got pretty tired of walking through the mazes myself. There is only one enterance and one exit in any given maze, so exploring is pretty limited. The scenery changes quite a bit, but in the end, it's just mazes and end bosses. This game doesn't "...", but it's hardly an awesome title as far as RPG's go. Don't spend ridiculous amounts of money or time trying to find this title, believe me, it can wait.

An RPG made for people with a life

In this era of 80-100 hour RPG's it's nice to know there's an RPG designed for someone who wants to see the light of day. Grandia 2 clocks in at a very accessable 25-30 hours even if you wander around a bit to build up characters. It's short because it's not terribly complex, there's not many secrets to find, there are no random monster encounters, you don't have to talk to many stupid townsfolk to advance, and everything is incredibly scripted resulting in a very linear story.

But Grandia 2 is not a bad game. It has a compelling story (even with some annoying voice acting), a brilliant quasi-real time combat system, and there's plenty of save points so you can put it down and pick it up fairly easily. A great game.

very good but not a FF7.

When I first found out about the release of Grandia 2 I was thrilled. I was a big fan of the first Grandia and I love RPGs, I have quite a few under my belt! To begin with I will note this games amazing battle system, im sure that you have read all about it in all of the other reviews about how it is realtime/turnbased and how the way to learn spells and skills is great. I agree with all of that and think that it is the best battle sytem i have ever played. Also it is nice that you can see the enemys so you can avoid them. The spells look good too, but hey, its dreamcast. The sound in this game is very good. I think it was picked tactfully for each given scene. The voice acting was superior, the characters have no mouths so that might have helped. The graphics were great sega doesnt quite have squares mastery for the cuts scenes but it was good none-the-less. Also, I failed to find one problem with the carmera. The character development was very pretty good but could have used some work. Good game though is was, it has some big flaws. Lets get the biggest out of the way first. The first hours of the game were very boring with basically no story line. It was dungeon after dungeon after dungeon. Then find the boss then kill it and bask in the praise from the townspeople. The only thing stopping me from turning the game off was the battle system. Had it been less than steller I would have given in a started playing shenmue(which is my next RGP that im goping to play). Thankfully, with Ryudos forst meeting with his brother, the game just takes off. If you can withstand the beggining(and this is just me, others may love dungeon crawling) then you are in for a wonderful game. Also some of the parts where its supposed to be like the two main characters hittting it off, I just didnt feel it. I flet as though i didnt know them well enough to really relate to what they are saying. This happened sometimes but it also had its share of good climactic moments. Other than this big anf medium flaw the game was very good. The one thing I dont like about a good RGP is that i miss the characters and I sure will miss Ryudo.

Finally a good Dreamcast RPG

It took them long enough but finally her it is Grandia 2. Just so some of u know it is not a continuation of the original or so I've been told. This has to be hands down the best fighting system EVER. Even if the stories not the best in the world you'll want to keep playing. Some say Skies of Arcadia is better though I own both if havnt played Skies yet so I cant tell ya. So if you got ... to but a game buy this know. you wont be disappionted.

A Great game!!!!

Great story, Awesome graphics, very fun, and great gameplay. These are the elements for a great game. Grandia 2 has this. Skies is slightly better, and I mean slightly! Follow a young lad through a compelling story with love stories, sadness, and funny moments. This is what I call a great game, Which are rare these days. I really liked it

Grandia is one of my all time favorite games! It was one of the first games I ever got on my playstation. I felt that it blew away final fantasy as far as an enriching and engrossing story is concerned. You grew to love each character. There were times I caught myself laughing out loud. There were times I even caught a tear in my eye because of an event happening. The characters grew. It compelled me to move on furthur with the game. Wanting to see what will happen to the charecters next. So much to my delight, Dreamcast was having Grandia 2!!!!! Oh! I was so overjoyed that I went right out and picked up a dreamcast. The old feeling was just not there. I couldn't care less if a character died. I never laughed at the game like I did with the previous version. The charecters had no depth, and neither did the story. In Grandia 1 Justin had TONS of spells and different fighting techniques he could pick up. In this version you learn by books? The main character is set to 4 seperate fighting techniques??? I wasn't impressed. Its a great game to get if you just want a game to pass the time, if you don't care about characters, if you want to play while reading a book or typing on the computer, otherwise, this one will probably bore you to death. Go for Skies of Arcadia!!! Arcadia alone was worth the purchase of my dreamcast (even though I got it a week before they dropped to $99 )

Amazing!

I bought this game simply because it looked interesting, I was pleasently suprised to find this game not only interesting, but addictive, mesmorizing, and graphically stunning. I have never said "Oh, my god" so many times in one sitting. The regular game play graphics are like many cut scenes in most other RPG's. To say the least, I could not have purchased a better deal. For those of you looking for stunning graphics, an original fighting system, lovable characters, and an enthralling story line, than you should definately buy this game. Grandia II is amazing.

An excellent RPG for Dreamcast owners!

This RPG is a must for RPG fans. At first, I didn't think much of it. The story was the basic guy-hero,girl-sidekick thing, with the good-v.s.-evil plot. And I had seen better graphics. But I did enjoy the good music (mix of your normal Japanese with pop), the way the characters had their own personalities, the real-time background graphics, and I extremely liked the battle system. It was fairly easy to use. If you liked Dreamcast's Skies of Arcadia or Sega Saturn's Grandia, you'll love this fast-paced (for an RPG) sequel to the original Grandia.

And you think the best RPG's are the Final Fantasy games.

When I first popped in Grandia 2 in my Dreamcast, I stood there with my jaw on the ground. Great voice acting that won't make you turn the volume down. Entertaining script and very funny at times. The graphics are amazing, putting the Dreamcast to the test. And the music is some of the best I've ever heard, plus it comes with an additional CD with the some of the music on it. So if you want a great RPG experience, pick up Grandia 2 or Skies of Arcadia!

The best game of time
