Beautiful art

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 1 / 1

This is one of the best RPGs I've ever played. The characters don't have the generic personalities (for the most part), the story is well paced but quite thorough, and it doesn't lack for action without being overdone. It can get a little cartoony at times, and the character art doesn't help that, but the story is much the opposite. And then there's the background art: this is some of the best art I've ever seen in my life. The cities, the architecture, it's simply stunning. The cities don't look like generic RPG cities with a few minor building variations, each city has a very distinct style, and you can tell they took it very seriously. I'd recommend this game over any other with the exception of some of the Final Fantasy games. Well worth the money.

I'm a big fan of rpg's so I've played alot of them. Grandia 2 is very exciting and challengeing. Grandia 2 in my opinion is the best rpg out for the sega dreamcast council. You travel quickly through many worlds to save elena from having her soul eaten. In this quest you must also defeat various parts of the evil god valmar that have broken loose from there seals.Although I find grandia 2 very hard it is very entertaining. The best rpg I've ever played.

A masterpiece, one of the greatest!

This is a masterpiece in gaming history, one of the best DC games ever made and one of the best made ever! This is a great rpg, everthing about this is amazing, the graphics, the gameplay, the music, the story, there is nothing I didn't like about this game. If you have never played an rpg in your life this is a great place to start, this will make you love rpg's, the story in this game is a great one and also a very sad one, I don't want to destroy the plot development so I won't tell you the story, doing that will destroy your gaming experience. Many different twists and adventures in this game, a long and beatiful journey, this is just something I can't explain in words, im almost out of words, it's hard to describe the feeling you get when you play this game long enough and see how the story progresses.Anyone who says this game is not great, ... is just a fool who knows nothing, the way you fight in this game is very unique and very good, the cinematics are just beautiful, the scenery is amazing, the night sky brightened by stars and the beautiful clouds, sunsets, storms, water falls. This is just a total masterpiece. I should also add that some of the special attacks such as, Starving Tongue, Fallen Wings and some performed by the enemies look fantastic, they are actual cinematics that mixes in with the fighting. I highly reccomend this game, I think every DC owner should buy this game, it is now my favorite game of all-time, the game itself is only 1 disc, the other disc in the package would be a soundtrack of some of the games music selected by the composer, but not all the songs in the game are in the cd, one of the saddest songs not being on the soundtrack was kind of a let down, the song when the daughter or a suspected "witch"(shes not a withc) dies, you the boy gets sick when playing with the girl in the garden, but what can you do! Well like I said, get this, and be thankful if you could even find it!

I don't know what kind of personal vendetta the above reviewer has against Grandia 2. Whether the game beat him up, or peed in his shoes is beyond my knowledge, I have to step up and defend this aweseom Dreamcast game.
As one of few stellar and eagerly awaited RPG's for the system, and for it's time. Grandia 2 shines. Whether it is the deeply constructed battle system, or the better than ever voice acting, Grandia 2 was a game that I couldn't stop playing.

The story, while it was not up there with the giants like Chrono Trigger, Panzer Dragoon Saga, or Phantasy Star, it had it's moments to be remembered. Despite being typical RPG character cliches, (The female healer, the angsty young buck that'll save the world once he confronts his feelings, the huge axe wielding silent guy) they do an above average job of fulfilling these requirements.

Get this game, especially since its cheap now.

A really good RPG

I found Grandia II to be well worth the money; it provided me with about 45 hours of good game play. The characters are cool, even if they are of the "prediciable" type found in RPG's. The one thing that differentiated the characters for the norm is that they made more of an effort to give them personality. The main character has an attitude that lends to the enjoyment of the game, and each of the other major characters is distict from the others with respect to more than just their physical appearance. This added to the enjoyment of the storyline, which was actually pretty entertaining. The battle engine was great, and I never go tired of killing bad guys. The "psuedo-real time" menu-driven commands made me feel more involved in the action, and gave the battles more flow.

I only had a couple gripes with this game: It progressed in a very linear fashion, and the bosses were never very difficult to beat. There was never a point in this game that I wondered what to do next or where to go. I personally find it fun when RPG's are a little more wide open, and it is up to you to unravel the plot and the best course of action. As someone who has played a great many RPG's over the years, I really enjoy fighting bosses that provide a real challege, even to the point where they kill my party the first time I try to beat them. While the bosses were interesting in Grandia II, I never once lost a battle the entire game, and only once even had a character fall during battle! I had a slew of revival items and spells that never ended up getting used. While totally wiping out the bosses might be good for the ego, it does make it a little less fun.

One more thing about this game that is worth noting is the way magic spells and skills are used. Instead of individual characters having certain spells, you have "Mana eggs" that can be equiped by any character. As such, you can custom tailor the spells that each character has, to maximize their effectiveness. You can also equip skills from skill books you accumulate to boose the stats of characters. When properly equipped with skills and magic, there is really no such thing as a weak character, only strong ones and really strong ones. At first I really liked this "new" approach, but I ended the game with mixed feelings about it. The reason for this was that as an experienced RPG gamer I was able to make my characters all so damn powerful that I just mowed over the bad guys. While some might enjoy that, I found that it made the game too easy.

In summary, although I felt that there were a few short-comings, I found Grandia II to be an addictive, enjoyable game. I got sucked into the storyline, and had a good time stomping evil. This is a must buy for RPG fans.

The best is only to be started over

HEY, this is the greatest RP freaking G I have every played for dreamcast so far. I really like the battle style(a bit hard to grasp at first), not only that but the music and the characters are wonderfully emotional. The game has a big dead lead line heart beat of belief inself. This was a great game for me because of my veiws on the storyline(can't tell why or it,ll ruin it for ya!). But lets forget about the charaters for a sec and go into graphics. The graphics are the thing that makes me still think that the dreamcast is better than PS2. It really has beutifully animated cenes and spells not to mention the real time graphics. This game was one I couldn't put down it was so good i felt like I was in the game. I'll shut up now but THIS GAME IS A MUST HAVE AND WILL BE REMEBERED FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE. THIS GAME IS SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO AWSOME!!

Being an RPG fanatic, as well as a Dreamcast owner, you can about imagine how much i was looking forward to this game.I'm not rich so it was either this or Skies of Arcadia. I bought this. While the graphics are crisp and attractive, the music is enjoyable (free soundtrack included),and the characters are well designed, there ain't much new here. The story is painfully familiar, and the dialogue can be super-corny.The best thing about the game is the battle system. It's kinda like Star Ocean 2, but with a meter system that allows for some lightweight strategy.I like this game, but i wasn't blown away. If you have to choose, buy Skies of Arcadia first.

Perfect
