Bought a PS3 for this game

I have been a 360 owner for the last 2 years and said I would NEVER own a PS3! Well......I got one for this game and let me tell you..I DO NOT REGRET IT!! This game is the most graphic game I have ever seen. This game will definitely be game of the year! I cannot wait til God of War 3 comes out now!! Im so glad I got a PS3! You cant go wrong!

This has made my top 5 of all time!

This game is THE GAME OF THE YEAR
I dont want too make a long review I just wanna say that's it's really the best PS3 game and for that matter best overall game on any current gen console I know I got all three wii ps3 and 360 and nothing comes close too this game.

Graphically it's the best I have seen.(I dont play pc games)
Gameplay is what you want it too be frantic non stop action or you could play defensevly most of the game, it really is what you want it too be action packed or suspenful sneaking game.
Controls are the best in the Metal Gear series.
Sound is the best in the series aswell the music and fx are top notch(I dont have surround sound though)

If you have a PS3 this is the game too get if you wanna enjoy a videogame and if you are on the fence on a PS3 and you were waiting for this game well dont hesitate too buy into the hype because now that the game is on the retail shelfs there is no hype, it's a fact Metal Gear 4 is the GAME OF THE YEAR.

I just finished Act 1, and I have to say I am very impressed. The game has so much and it's just got started. The story line is easy to follow, even if you've never played MGS before. I'm a little rusty, so it took me 7 hours to complete Act 1. From what I've read in the guide, you have to complete the entire game in under 5 hours, no kills, no continues, and with no alerts--on big boss difficulty--to get the best ending. If there are any godlike gamers out there that can do that, I want to see the video.

Make sure you have plenty of time before you sit down to play because you can easily loose track of time.

First off two words MUST BUY. This game rocks i never played any of the previous games but being new to the game does not seem to matter because the game itself is so much fun and the graphics are amazing. It's nice to finally see the power of the playstation3 and its true potential.

I am not sure exactly if some people have played earlier mgs games b/c my understanding and expectations would be this game is gonna have a lot of just movie time and not game play before I even played the game.After playing I still think the game is well balanced and the movie parts as another way of just telling the story.There is plenty of game play time though.I figured if you were familiar with earlier installments you would expect this bigger version to have movie time.This game does have a lot more of it though.I simply noticed people who hate the game usually had something to say about the non-interactive moments.

I found myself just listening to the sound of the game and its amazing.The sound effects are phenomenal.The graphics are amazing.Flaws in this game are few and in between.Even from the 1st intro of Geckos I found my heart racing.

Fans of the series odds are will love this game even if I did hate it.I am not a huge fan of the series but I have enjoyed playing them and following the story.This is the best so far for Playstation 3 and greatly needed to show off the system strength.I own a Xbox 360 as well so finally my PS3 is getting a lot of game time.

First of all I would like to say I am wrirting this for anyone thinking about purchasing this or for those of you who have read the VERY few mixed reviews of this game. I am not a die hard fan, nore have I ever played a metal gear solid game before, I am however a video game lover, I love shooters sports games, espionage ... ANYTHING!!! this game is perfect.... PERFECT, Yes I too have read the negative comments here on amazon, the cutscenes, the long cutscens these beautifule works of art have the option to be skipped! Although you would not be smart to, I never want these to end, I am hooked on these cutscenes, I love them, but yes they can be skipped.
The control of your character is astonishingly well done, I don't even know were to start, all I can say is perfect control and camera.
The action makes you feel tense like you are right there hiding, sneaking, shooting, crawling!
Your suit is chamelion in nature, everywere you go, any surface, wall anything your next to or laying on is replicated nicely by your suit.
I feel like writing kojima a letter thanking him for making this game, any game any console anywere, has never, could never, beat this game on any level, PERIOD.
The ps3's blu ray drive, blu ray drive disc format for games and cell processor are responible for this HUGE 20+ hours of meticulously detailed game!
buy a Playstation 3, buy this game, ENJOY!

Incredible for most, not for all

I bought this on it's release day along with a DS3 controller. The very beginning of the game through me for a loop as there were several abstract videos played that I couldn't seem to skip. I didn't mind at all that the game had an up front installation. It was actually pretty quick. On to playing the game. I did mind that it has an install between every act and that if two people are playing it you'll constantly be re-installing the current act for that person.

It's full of story. Most of which is a bit overblown japanese oddness but it kind of grows on you. The acting is well done for a game and Snake is a very interesting character to follow. I'm the type who likes a good amount of cut scene and story. I like to relax a bit between gaming. To me the perfect amount of this was done in Uncharted and Ratchet & Clank Future: TOD. MGS4 goes well beyond the amount of cut scenes in those games and they are a bit less compelling to watch. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy them.

The game play is pretty incredible. It's easy to control snake, it's a ton of fun sneaking up on bad guys and the camo suit never gets old. There are a few short comings. Moving your gun 180 degrees in a fire fight takes awhile. It's understandable that Snake is old but it seems just a little too slow. Also it seems very easy to just shoot everyone with the tranq gun and sneak past.

So the game is not perfect, why did I give it a 5? It's because the game does so many things so well and has such a great attention to detail in so many areas it definitly deserves it. The graphics are really great but beyond that the sound is AMAZING. The camera work is one of the best I've seen in a video game. Not once did I get dizzy and only when on my belly in the dark under something is it difficult to see what you're doing.

Technically the game is one of the most impressive things I've seen in gaming. For those of you concerned, it is also a lot of fun. I personally like Uncharted better but that takes nothing away from this game given Uncharted is one of my favorite games of all time.

First Person Shooter junkie

Before anything I shall state I'm a hardcore fps gamer. So as you might expect I'm into fast paced games like COD4, RFoM, and Gears of War (yes, I know that is a 360 game and not quite FPS but you get the idea). Therefore, I had my doubts with respect to this game as it is stated as a tactical spy game. As a matter of fact the only reason I got it was because it was a gift LOL. Couldn't be more wrong, the game is absolute gold. And the long cutscenes a lot of people complain about are actually very welcomed by me. They give me plenty of time to rest from the constant stress that causes me to try to sneak out behind enemies. An additional advantage of the long cutscenes is that for a first-timer in the Metal Gear series, this game explains everything so I actually feel lost regardless of its "complex" story. Moreover, the game allows you to play however you like, you might as well blast thru it and kill everything in sight or sneak out and avoid detection at all costs.

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is a marvelous blend of video game and cinematic experience!! I have only played Sons of Liberty before and found it somewhat incomplete and limited in detail. But this game has combined cutting edge graphics, wonderful gameplay, endless weaponry options and a mesmorizing storyline beautifully complimented by one of the most moving and powerful musical scores ever in a videogame bar none!! This game not only captures the imagination but the flawless storyline and ending lift the human spirit through the rollercoaster of tragedy and triumph.

I purchased the 80GB Playstation 3 Metal Gear Solid Package over the Motorstorm package and I have been absolutely blown away!! Marvelous Game!! Well Done!!
