If you can, find another cheat device. Eighty percent of the people I have talked to(500 people or so) have said their's lasted a max of four months and then had a fatal glitch. Mine lasted a little over three. The gameshark deleted 90% of my codes and garbled the other 10%. To top it off I can't even reload them because of a "Hardware not detected" error. THIS IS COMMON AND CAN'T BE AVOIDED. It's a piece of junk. I'm looking into the Pelican code breaker mentioned by one of the other reviewers. It has to be better than this. Save your money or buy something else.

The Gameshark 2 only for a year. The first few months its ok, but than it has a hard time reading the GS2 memory card, a.k.a. the bungle. It freezes after you save a code. Finally the bungle damages your memory card port. This is not worth your money. I recommend the codebreaker instead. It doesn't come with the special memory card, but it way better and more reliable. It can also use your favorite GS2 codes. You can save codes on your regular PS2 memory card. For info on the codebreaker visit cmgsccc.com. For info on the gameshark 2 visit gameshark.com

This is the GREATEST thing that was made for the PS2 the
First review at the top says that you have to keep the
Hardware in the first slot to work but that's not true you
can put the Hardware in the 2nd slot and the memory card in
the frist slot and it almost never gets glity you should get
this. i have one myself its the best it comes with the hardware
a disc for the PS2 with LOTS of codes and anothor disc that has over 13,000 Playsation codes too its easy to load cheats and you don't have to typein the code just press x on the codes
you want and thats all that simple and when you want to
add a new code just press x on the game and go to add code and a keyboard will appear at your screen and will make it much easyier to type it in I will GARENTEE you will enjoy this
amzing thing ok when you get this amazing item put the hardware in the 2nd slot if you have a memory card then take the disc that says Paystation 2 and open press the button that will the drive tray and insert the discand press the reset butten after that you will be at the game shark mian menu then go to Game shark 2 codes and there will be a list of games pick the game you want to play then there will be a list of codes press x to the codes you want and press o two times go to start game and it will ask you if you want to play the game with codes or with out codes pick one then open your disc tray take out the disc and put in the game you wanted to play and press x and thats all you will find amazing things with GameShark 2and if you are a real gamer you will get this item so have fun with it!!!!!!

I own the Gameshark V2 for Sony Playstation 2 and ever since I made my purchase I have had a multitude of problems. I don't believe that it's the vendor's fault since I have spoken with other gamers who use the product and found out that it has so many glitches.
First, I installed new codes and it worked for a little while. Then all of a sudden the complete list for the codes was gone. Even the title for the game on the list was gone.
Second, whenever I use a code that was already in the system when I bought it, I have to time exactly when I push the X (activate codes) button before my loads or otherwise the codes won't install.
Third, sometimes when I insert the Gameshark CD my Playstation won't even detect it and it will tell me to install a CD for it. I have had to do this on more than one occasion.
Fourth, the bonus CD for Playstation One games doesn't work at all. After you select which language you want to use it freezes up.
Fifth, the Gameshark cartridge itself is highly unstable. Sometimes it's detected, sometimes it's not. And you have to continuously monitor the upper right-hand corner or bottom of the screen to make sure your codes were installed or even activated.
I have read the manual that came with the product and have gone through every troubleshooting scenario that was listed. I still have come up with a disappointing result. The vendor is not responsible for this product's defectiveness since there are so many glitches that were found on top of all of the other people that have voiced their negative opinions of this product. It seems to me that the Gameshark V2 for Playstation 2 was designed not to work.
Overall, I am extremely disappointed and will not make future purchases of any Gameshark products. I would ask for a refund or a replacement, but I know that kind of courtesy doesn't exist or that I'll more than likely get the same glitches with a new Gameshark V2 package.
Great Product

In short, this is a great product. I buy one for every console I use (got three of them now). Mostly, I value the service from gameshark's website as they promptly get the latest codes published often before a game is even officially released.
Sometimes one just doesn't have the patience to play a game 15 times just to get the "killer weapon" (i.e. rocket launcher in RE) or final secrets *after* the game has already lost much of its repeat play value.
Indeed Gameshark can actually improve a game's "fun quotient". For example, Fear Effect I at points was way too hard with much playtime being used to reload saved games. I was able to give myself additional almo which increased my satisfaction with the game.

I will start off by saying that, when it works, the Gameshark is VERY cool. However there have been many times that a game wouldnt load when I was trying to use Gameshark codes on it. (I have version2) Then, there is the question about why version 3 codes wont work for version 2 (as posted by a previous reviewer) The problem occured when MadCatz bought Gameshark, the previous owners retained the rights to the first two versions. Basically making it illegal for MadCatz to create new version 1 & 2 codes. Long story short: if you get a Gameshark, be sure it is a version 3 by MadCatz. While I dont think this is a good excuse, it is the reason.
How can it not work for some? Works GREAT here!

I think some people just have problems with PC type products period. I've had no problems using the GameShark on my PS2. I simply insert the CD, power cycle the PS2, and up comes with the GameShark menu. Using it this way, I have had no problems.
Now as for entering codes... get the GameShark USB Keyboard. Trying to enter them from the game pads is asking for trouble.
Can you say HEADACHE?!!

I bought a PS2 and a Game Shark for my family for Christmas, and the Game Shark has been nothing but a big headache!! When I tried to use it, I kept getting an error basically saying that the disk wasn't PS2 compatible. After spending a few hours on the web (I couldn't return the darn thing since it was already open), I found out that I needed an update cd because the new version of PS2 (version 3, you can look on the back of your console to find out what model you have) wasn't compatible with it. After about a week I finally got a response from the manufacturer and they are going to ship out a free update. Well here we are a month later and I still haven't gotten it! I have tried to contact them again, but they haven't written back yet. It really erks me that they keep this product on the shelf right next to the new PS2's without any kind of warning...I bought mine at the giraffe store. One plus...the PS1 disk that comes with it actually does work!
Bottomline...wait for the Game Shark v 1.9 to come out unless you have an older PS2 OR Skip the free CD thing and pay an extra $10 bucks + shipping to use it sooner.
Piece of junk!

DO NOT BUY THIS!!! My first gameshark died after having it for three months. The code screen just scrambled up and you can't read any thing intelligable. On top of that it won't save anything if you enter in a new code. Interact refuses to fix it. A friend of mine just got a extra one and gave it to me. It worked for four days before the thing died. SAVE YOUR MONEY! I know some games are frustrating but it's better trying to finish them on your own rather than buy this piece of junk that will probably die on you in a week.
Product works fine, company policies are bad

InterAct have recently replaced the GameShark2 v2 with a new GameShark2 v3. The codes for the v3 are incompatible with the v2 codes, and vice versa. InterAct are no longer publishing v2 codes for current games. You can buy an upgrade to GameShark2 v3, but you have to send back your v2 CD... meaning you're without the codes for your older games. So it looks like InterAct wants to try and push people to go out and buy a whole new GameShark2 v3, so they get more cash.
Meanwhile, www.codejunkies.com has codes for GameShark2 v2, which was actually the Action Replay unit under a different name. So rather than being forced to pay InterAct for a v3 upgrade, go there instead!
