Ace Combat 4 was an amazing game but after about 3 years it gets boring. Finally Ace Combat 5 is taking off and looks almost unreal. The graphics are unbelievable and there are so many new features. Now you can talk to and control your whole squadron plus it's online. When online you can get your own squadron with other people and battle it out in intense dogfights. I recommend pre-ordering this game because the day it hits the shelves is the day it gets sold out. Buy it now!!!

Ace Combat 5 is airborne w/ wings of innovation and passion.

Integrating the movie effect into the new Ace Combat hit made it even better in some ways making not only a pilot out of you, but an actor as well, to lead a team of 4 pilots and combat aircraft towards victory under the wings of innovation and passion. You fly your choice of the usual arsenal of planes currently in service, and the new JSF. The planes come with a certain number of unique weapons as designed specifically for either air-to-air or air-to-ground combat along with the usual payload of missiles. Although none of the plane's ordinance configurations could be customized, you get to pick the planes your wingmen fly in later missions to meet all types of contingencies, including anti-submarine warfare, anti-ship warfare, tank hunting, escort missions, search and rescue, interception, attack missions, and surgical air strikes, in over 30 different areas of operations. The graphics and sound have been vastly improved, but the most notable improvement over the previous versions is the incorporation of engaging cinematics in the presentation of the story, turning Ace Combat 5 into a more amusing interactive aviation experience.

Ace Combat 04 was a good game, but after a while of flying the same missions over, and over again. The missions get so boring you know what to expect, and with the right plane such as the X-02{or dreamstar as I call it.all you Dale Brown fans should know what I am talking about} you can beat the game in one day, but Ace Combat 05 is the jewel that I can't wait for. More weapons, more planes, customizable colors, wingman commands. The only other game that may top Ace Combat 05 is the fact that Grand Theft Auto San Andreas comes out the week before. Your mission in this game is to defend your homeland, and like a Dale Brown novel your base is between your homeland and Enemy Territroy. Defend the homeland with a poetent arsenal of weapons and aircraft including Dreamstar {X-02} go air to air, air to ground, but try your best to keep the enemy from your country. Good Hunting on 10/25/04 Dismissed!!

Ace Combat 5 is so much better than Ace Combat 4 in many ways.First off the graphics and AI is much better. The explosions look and sound better and this has some planes and weapons ace 4 doesn't in addition to wingman control which is really helpful.Ace 5 employs the same weapons ace 4 does and new ones. Here is the weapon list.

Anti Air
Qaam
Saam This is new you must keep the plane or copter in the circle to hit it and the saam has long range usually one hit will bring down a plane.
Xmaa
Xlaa

Anti Ground
UGB
UGBL This is my favorite one since it can take out more than 4 targets at once.
RCL
NPB
FREB Fuel Air Explosive This is another one of my favorites to use. This will take out multiple targets usually 4 or more and these frebs are better than the one on ace 4 as the explosions are much louder and looks better. You can see it ignite over the objects if you hold down the triangle button.
BDSP
SFFS New Bomblets spread out and take out multiple targets

Guided Anti Ground
LAGM Just one of these missiles can take out 4 ground targets at once.
XAGM
GPB
SOD

Anti Ship
LASM These also work great on ground targets and are essential for battiling the biggest ships like the rimtaxie. They are long range.

Special
ECMP New These can jam missile locks that a plane has on you and can get you out of a bind but you only get 5-6 of them.

TLS Tactical Laser System New This is only available on the Falkin plane. This laser will destroy anything air, ship and ground and very quickley. They will take out the Arkbird,Sinfaxi,Solg very quickley.Planes that are moving are a little hard to hit with this laser but you can if your careful and you can take out a lot of them. This laser is helpful and elimanating the Belkin Grabac Fighters which are the aces of your enemies. To get the falkin you must destroy certain hangers in mission 12a,12b,16a,16b and 27a.You can do this in free mission mode once you complete the game. Also the falkin has a 360 degree view if you fly it in cockpit mode and it has 84 missiles and is very fast.

The X02 is easier to get in this game as well. All you have to do is get all 50 planes and you open it up.You can use free mode to fill up the kill meters on planes.

The wingmen mode is very helpful. You can tell them to cover you if you get an enemie behind you,Disperse to take out multiple enemies,Attack if you run out of missiles and Special Weapons.

Once you finish the game you open free mode and also you can fly anyplane you choose in free mode and for the most part in campain mode with the exception of just a few levels.

Here is the pros and cons of this game.

Pros
Free Flight You can fly on any level without enemies once you complete the game.

Free music Listen to any song from the game you want to hear. This is available once you complete the game.

Painted enemy aircraft once you finish the game you must shoot them down.

Better and Louder explosions.

Better Graphics

Better Storyline You can watch any storyline in free mode.

Better Characters You will be flying with Captain Bartlett(Heartbreak one),Nagase(EDGE)the only female pilot,Captain Davenport(Chopper)who talks a lot,Grimm(Archer),Pops and Captain Snow(Swordsman)You are Blaze and you give commands starting at mission 3.

New Weapons and Planes

3 views 1st 3rd and cockpit. You can change views on this by hitting the r3 button.

Landing is easier and taking off is louder with more vibration.Landings also offer 1000 points.
Refueling Missions on 2 levels which offer 1000 points if you can do it.

The TLS Laser on the Falkin. This laser can take out anything quick even the toughest enemies if your in a hurry to get to another level.

The X02 is easier to get just by getting all 50 planes and on any difficulty. You don't have to get an S rating on every level to get the X02 like you did in ace 4 and the missile count in the X02 has incresed from 82 in ace 4 to 84 in ace 5.

Flip a coin missions.Chopper will ask you certain questions and if you reply yes for example you will go to 11 a and no 11 b.Note all missions are available in free mode so you can play 11a and 11b if you want.Split missions are only on campain mode.

Arcade Mode In this mode you are Mobius One and you must take out some resistant Eurusion fighters in the air, ground and sea. This has nothing to do with campain mode it is a totally different storyline.

Cons
You can't go back and land when you want to reload your missiles and secondary weapons and fix damage like in ace
4.Landings are only available in certain missions as well as takeoffs.

You only get one secondary weapon per plane.

On some missions you must fly reconnisence around radars without getting caught and take pictures.

I hope xbox will get it's own version of an ace combat game with a different storyline since they have no flight similator games.Crimson Skies and Secret Weapons Over Normandy arn't really flight similator games with fighter jets.I can't wait to see Ace Combat 6 come out.I am already saving for a playstation 3 since that is what it will be released on.If you are looking for a relistic fighter jet flight similator game ace 5 is it and ace 4 is also good.

Great game, but have I played this before?

Okay, this is a awesome game. It has wonderful graphics, the airplane details are superbly represented, and the sound is really good. One of the signature differences between this new title and the previous Ace Combat 4 is the addition of the CGI cutscene movies, whereas the Ace Combat 4 used the storyboard type representation. If you have played Ace Combat 4, this game is easy enough to pick up and jump right in to the action. Minor changes have been made to controls to allow for the "wingman" control scheme with the D-pad. This enables you to direct you wingmen to either cover, attack, disperse and use their special weapons on a target. You can also use the dpad for the standard yes no reply to questions that your wingmen will ask you throughout the game. It does add a nice touch of realism to the game with all the chatter you hear over the radio.

Now, since it has been 3 years since Ace Combat 4, I must say that I really did expect more in the way of advancements, but it truely feels like the same gamestyle, typical storyline, and overall general feel. Of course that is not berateing this game one iota. The graphics are much sharper, the land elevation scenery is much more detailed with trees and brushes now visible. The buildings are also nicely detailed with a higher polygon count. Perhaps the best change made for me is the missile animation you now see when you launch a missile. The missile stream is now much more realistic with the way it curves and actually winds through the air.

If you enjoyed Ace Combat 4, you won't regret buying this game. If you never played Ace Combat 4, then you will truely love this game moreso than the typical veteran Ace Combat player. Great visuals, good storyline and good sound design make this a winner in anyone's book.

Just to mention that you can either play the campaign mode or arcade mode. Arcade mode will have you reprise your role as Morphius from the Ace Combat 4 game. The campaign will carry you in the role of flight leader and allow you to fight with and control your wingmen. Enjoy.

Great Graphics Do Not a Great Game Make...

CONCEPT: Your home country of Osea is under attack by an invading nation. Lead a handful of fighter pilots on a variety of missions in a variety of planes to repel the invaders.
GRAPHICS: WOW. Photo-realistc aircraft and terrain make this game absolutely beautiful. Realistic weather and altitude effects add to the mix to provide an absolutely stunning visual experience.
SOUND: Aircraft engine and weapon sound effects were great, as were the sound of targets being destroyed. You see the explosion, THEN you hear it. Very nice... Now, the game sound is another point that I don't like. The radio chatter, although nice at first, gets VERY annoying, VERY fast. You hear ground forces arguing about who is better, and your fellow pilots also complain about some of the most inane stuff imaginable, all during the heat of battle. However, the catch is that the radio chatter sometimes provides key mission updates. Radio or no radio? That is the question...
CONTROL: Nice and tight, just like Ace Combat 4. Although now, you use the D-pad to issue wingman orders. Nothing much new to report as far as controls are concerned.
WHAT'S NEW: Now, you can issue wingman orders, and decide what fighters the three other pilots in your squadron fly. You can have some in air-superiority fighters, while others buzz the deck in ground attackers. It's all up to you.
OVERALL: I had this game for about 2 days before I took it back. I got so SICK of the lame dialogue, and the silly "Can't we all just get along?" message that was so pervasive throughout this game. Don't get me wrong, I think that real war is terrible, and should be avoided, especially if it isn't necessary (current world events...), but a game with "Combat" in it's title shouldn't be so d**n preachy!!! Also, there is very little variety to the combat. Some missions are air-to-air, others are air-to-ground, and others are a mix. But after a while the idea of "Fly around, do some rolls and loops, shoot down some fighters, take out some tanks, end of mission" gets OLD. Anyway, fans of the "Ace Combat" series will dig this one, I guess I just lost interest.

Good with some reservations

I bought Ace Combat 5 at full price (...), its a good solid air combat game. Looks great sounds wonderful. Movies look really good. My only complaints are the characters suck, looks good but are annoying(Maybe something got lost in the translation from Japanese to English). And some of the missions I've flown(I've only completed 7 missions so far) are pretty stupid. Like Escort a large plane through Anit-Air-Arty gaps. So I have to fly around large circles... If you played AC-4 then you should be use to the absurd combat missions. Unless you really liked AC4 and can't wait for AC5 then buy it. I did, I don't regret it, But then again I love flight sims.

Actually 4 1/2 Stars would be more appropriate

Those creative folks at Namco have created another great installment of this classic air combat game. The landscape graphics are more diverse and maintain AC4's realism. The storyboard graphics and animation are captivating as always, but have been weaved a bit too often into the game playing modes.
I was happy to actually see destroyed ship targets sink upon destruction and a diversified aircraft inventory. The replay sequences are longer, but lack the distant camera angle view we saw in "Shattered Skies". This however, does not detract from the enjoyment of the game.
I would have liked to have seen a competition mode with the possibility of using PS2's network adapter, just a thought.
Overall this game is a testament to the continued persuit of excellence by NAMCO, who will hopefully not wait so long before they dazzle us again with another Ace Combat game.
P.S. Namco folks, I hope history's past is not off limits for future games like this.
