I had this game back in the early 90s when it was first released on the Sega CD system. It was my favorite game then, I mean completely! When it was rereleased I just had to get it and am very glad it did. This game, while not graphically strong (the animated sequences are beautiful however) is great. The gameplay is strong, the storyline is terific, the characters are loveable (or hateable in some cases). This is one of those games that you can play for hours on end and STILL not get enough!

I think the best game I've played is Lunar The Silver Star Story. The animation is great and the voice acting was perfect. The anime sequences are helping me with my drawing skills, and I can't get enough of the battles. The menu system may not appeal to all, but I think most avid RPGers will truly enjoy this game (if you can find it.) It's gone out of print now and it will be pretty hard to find one, so be on the lookout.
one of the best ever

this is probably the best rpg ever created, other than maybe chrono trigger. it also has the best voice acting in any video game i've ever played. the story line is great too. very uh, emotional.

I am fairly new to RPGs, but this is easily the best one ever made by man. It has over 1 hour of animation, and awesome animation at that. The characters seem as real as anyone, because the game does an excellent job of developing their characters in a believeable and realistic way. On top of all this, the story is very cool. It pulls you in and won't let you go until you find out every last plot point. I should know; I drove my entire family crazy for a month because whenever I had any free time, it was spent playing this game. The only complaint anyone may have with this game is that it is a little restricted in the way of storyline, the reason being that the game is more focused on the story and not on freedom. However, I don't think this matters as much, and I'm willing to give up a little freedom to play this game. It is an awesome game, and I would recommend it to any and everyone who is interested in RPGs.
It's back and I'm impressed

In 1994, Sega CD owners were introduced to an incredible RPG titled Lunar. Five years later, Playstation owners got to enjoy the experience for themselves. In my opinion, this is the best RPG of 1999. It may not have the pretty graphics of the recent Final Fantasy games, but the story line, strategic battle system, and well done anime, make it thirty hours that are completely relentless. The dialog is very humorous, but I warn you that some of it may be inapropriate for young children. The voice acting was ok, but I didn't care to much for Alex's voice. Overall, any true RPG fan should get this game, that is, if you can find it!
And just when I thought I wouldn't find another good RPG...

Ever since playing the nearly perfect Final Fantasy 6 by Square, I searched constantly for an RPG that would hold my interest even half as much. Unfortunately, nothing else I found could even compare... that is, until a friend recommended Lunar SSS to me. I was skeptical, but reluctantly slid the cd into my psx and began to play. Strangely enough, I enjoyed this game even MORE than Final Fantasy 6! Being a devout, obsessive anime fan, I was quite impressed and even comforted in some strange by the anime cut scenes, which I enjoyed much more than the cold, voiceless fmvs of FF8. The packaging is amazing, the music is top notch, and the battle system is quite good.
This, however, is not the main reason I liked Lunar.
Many people believe that the plot of Lunar is quite generic. Be a hero, save the girl, save the world-- it is like a cliche. Lunar SSS takes these otherwise typical plot devices and adds to them. The characters are very well developed-- everyone has inner demons they have to face and destroy. There was not one character I did not like-- even the over-confident, appearance-obsessed Nash, who, strangely enough, I began to like even more than the others. And there are no holes in the plot-- everything is connected somehow, and the player feels nothing but satisfaction after completing this masterpiece.
Maybe this will sound rather odd (and definitely over-dramatic), but this game also made me feel a little bit better about myself. (No, I don't have a life. ^_^) Its positive, uplifting themes make you want to do something good for a friend or for the world... something most games would never inspire.
