Lunar Silver Star Story Definitely a Star

Even though I played this game after I played Lunar 2: Eternal Blue, I still thought everything flowed together pretty well. The gameplay itself was relatively challenging, but nothing that an experienced gamer can't handle. I found myself liking all of the characters and their relationships as much as I liked the ones from Lunar 2. Definitely a game to go in anyone's collection.

Great game

I just loved this game; it really blew me away. The cut scenes were awesome and well done, and the characters were well done. You really get an understanding of the characters and you'll laugh at the conversations between the major and minor characters. Also the mood pics of the main characters and of the ones that are most crucial to the plot are great. At the end of the game, the outtakes will make you chuckle; the mistakes that the actors and actresses made were funny. The music on the soundtrack is great. I especially liked luna's boat song and the opening theme because I liked the way it was sung because it really expressed the mood of the songs. Also included is the making of the Lunar game; it's just a short 30 minutes behind the scenes thing about how the game was made. The combat system is almost like Chrono trigger: you can attack, use magic and the AI method, except that you make the moves in advance. If you haven't played this game, I suggest that you buy it.

Supernintendo Graphics made up for by story and cut scenes

Lunar is my favorite RPG game of all time! What it lacks in battle graphics it makes up for in story line as well as cut scene animation. Lunar provides players with a fulfill storyline and several plat twists. This is one of the few RPG's that will truly make you care about all the characters in your party, not just Alex (the hero). Very few RPG's take the time to develop all characters and maintain an intriguing storyline. The animation for cut scenes will have you watching again and again. This is not your average boy saves girl RPG!

Possibly the best game I've ever played

Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete has to be the best game I've ever played. It has amazing gameplay, breath-taking music, memorable characters and a mighty fine presentation to wrap it all up. Lunar: Silver Star Story is the story of young Alex, a boy from a small village called Burg who looks up to a world-saving hero, Dragonmaster Dyne. One day, his friend Ramus suggests that they go to the "White Dragon's Cave" to find and claim a legendary Dragon Diamond, and Alex and his friends are swept into a fantastic adventure.

Each minute of this game is interesting. While playing, I laughed, I smiled, I frowned, I cried, I screamed. I felt every emotion possible during the 40 hours I spent first playing the game, and the second playthrough was no different. Very different from classical roleplaying games, yet so much better.

Lunar is a must-have for all RPG fans.

THE BEST OF THE BEST!

Lunar: Silver Star Story is beyond fun & challenging. Ok, Ok, Ok, the graphics aren't FFX but, the gameplay puts other games in the dust. I personally think that Lunar: Silver Star Story is MUCH better than Lunar 2: Eternal Blue. The reason? Gameplay. To me, a game isnt about its graphics, it's about its story. Take FF7. Worst graphics I've ever seen-(Wait, Twisted Metal, then FF7). The hands are like cans of tuna in FF7, but I DON'T CARE! It's the game I'm worried about. Well, you may have thought this a waste of time reading my boring review, and I probally didn't hook you in to Lunar. (...)

Don't get your expectation TOO HIGH because of the beginning

Ok.. I'll be honest here. I read couple reviews and sensing that this game is 'bit' over-rated. (I sense people who wrote reviews frowning) I did finish this game and trust me, I had lot of expectation for this game. I haven't played the Sega CD version of it and actually blamed one of the reviewers from EGM, who gave 8.5 when rest of them gave 9 or higher. I thought this game deserves at least 9, I mean, look at the animation, the title animation is one of the most well-represented animated beginning ever, and the music was just amazing. I was constantly humming the tune because it was so, so, SO GOOD- couldn't help myself from humming it all the time. Not only that, Working Design did a fantastic/excellent job on putting in all the extra you are getting with this game, it's simply amazing- I'm left with no choice but to give credit for that. However, after I finish the game, I realized that I came to conclusion too soon, when I did play only beginning portion of the game, mesmerized with beautifully animated movie scene.
I wasn't inspired or felt that heartache or anything like that..
I mean, characters are adorable and the story is good enough to pull you in, however, it wasn't just strong enough-
So when I read several reviews saying this is the best RPG for PS or anything like that, I just couldn't agree with what they were saying, of course, everyone has right to their own opinion, but in my humble opinion, I just didn't feel it. It seemed to me that I'm more attracted to the games with more stronger theme, like Xenogear, and Lunar falls into mild-themed game, which is, of course, enjoyable.

I didn't buy the sequel, Eternal Blue, which comes with more extra and whole box for the game looks great, however, I wasn't inspired enough to purchase Eternal Blue because it wasn't just there to hook me, wasn't just there...

Well, it's definitely your call.. so if the price is reasonable for you and plenty of time, then give it a try and see how it goes. It's nice to have this game if you are a collector, however, I wouldn't buy this game if you are picking this ONE RPG to enjoy in your busy life, because there are better RPGs out there for PSOne in my humble opinion.

Lunar Silver Star Story Complete and what a game it was...

I'm a little late in reviews since I played its GBA remake Lunar Legend first. (I luckily got this game in trade from my local Game Express) Well anyway from the other reviews you know the basics
Music and Sound-5
This music rocks I especially like the final battle theme Go! Go! Go!
Graphics-4.5
Very nice (since being a Playstation game the areas can be more exspansive than the tiny GBA thus allowing anime cut-scenes and more free roaming through places, but the GBA is nothing to be scoffed at having better sprites and brighter colors)
Storyline-5
Very good stroyline (I'm kinda surprised since I usually hate love stories) The story is as soild as this game can get. And unlike SOME RPGs *coughfinalfatasycough* You won't get bored and say "Oh please" at a useless plot twist that just makes you lose intrest in the game.
Well now let's see if I can test my luck and find Lunar 2: Eteranl Blue (Or maybe, hopefully they'll just remake it for the GBA and call it Lunar Legend 2)
Coolest Charcter-Tempest
Fav Character- All of 'em especially Nash, Kyle Alex, Jessica and Tempest
Fav music fron game- "Go! Go! Go!", "Solitary Wolf", "Fighting Spirits", Magical Weapon Nash", "It's Me" "Modern Boy" and "Mia's theme" (forgot name)

A classic RPG

Lunar first started on the Sega CD but due to hardware restrictions they kept re-doing until they came across the Playstation which allows better graphics. Thanks to them, you can play a great rpg that sold so well, they stopped making them cause it was in such huge demand.

Keep something in mind: the graphics look old when you play so don't expect some mindblowing graphics...except for the animes which look glorious. Ones from simple animations like character intros to magnificent "plot points", the animation just flourishes.

Something that this game also has is a sense of humor thanks to great translation by Working Designs. There's even some pop culture references like when a boy asks Nall(a flying cat) is asked how many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop to which he replies that that was an owl.

The soundtrack is great, not memorable but some great music. Wind's Nocturne(the boat song)is a great song with some great vocals by Jennifer Sigle(sp?)who also portrays some of the characters.

The game's about Alex, who wants to become like his hero, Dragonmaster Dyne, someone who can command the 4 dragons and protect the goddess Althena, the creator of Lunar. However, he soon finds himself against great enemies where he's gonna need a lot of courage and some help from some friends. Most of the plot twists you can see a mile away but it doesn't retract from the game.

Overall you should definately play this game(if you can find it). You won't be disappointed. Some of you won't like it but give it a chance. The game doesn't look mindblowing but it's got it where it counts: gameplay and characters.

It has it all!

Lunar is a great game. I mean, what would you do if your sweetheart was kidnapped by a guy who supposedly is Dragonmaster Dyne's best friend, or was, anyway. And what's a game without the cocky "Elite" Macho Mage, Nash, who will never forget to remind you who he is. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll enjoy the music.

Fantastic

This game was awsome. One of the best story lines in a long time. This game you have to beat before you can put it down. The story is about a kid named Alex who leaves to get a crystal from the White dragons cave and endes up on an adventure to become the dragon master. Becoming the dragon master has been his dream and dragon master dyne is his hero from an adventure a while back. On this game you meet many people some evil and others who join your party in your quest to become the dragon master and stop the Magic Empoer. This is relly a great game and I can't wait to ply the sequle. I love how they use Japanese anime to show the movies in the game. This is a must play. I recomend this for any rpg lover.
