Dead or Alive 2 is an excellent game. If not for that other DC fighter (ahem, Soul Calibur) this would be the best fighting game ever to hit a console. The single player mode will keep you playing playing for months, and the multiplayer is incredibly fun. An amazing game, but second to Soul Calibur.

I recently posted a review, entitled MILDLY AMUSING, where I gave his game a so-so review...I now take that back.
DEAD OR ALIVE 2 wasn't the greatest as a one player game, but for two players, it's a great fighter. Particularly when both players understand the beauty of the counter attacks. My brother and I spent the better part of July 4 brawling and had a blast!
I haven't played SOUL CALIBUR is weeks (you can only play a game so long), and DEAD OR ALIVE 2 seems like the best follow up.
The action is really fast, the graphics are great, and the character's are pretty good. I particularly like the multi-level battlegrounds.
DOA2 is a fast, fun 2 player fighter.

Dead or Alive2 graphics are explosive and very extravagent. How they porttraid shadow out lines was awsome. It made me like i was a part of the game thats why i rate this game as a top seller. I think every dream cast owner should own one.

Game looks and plays great. Incrediable backgrounds and no slowdowns on tagging in and out in tag team mode. Only problem, it lacks depth. Great game for more multiple players, but if you are like me, and the only real gamer out of all my friends, it lacks depth. What you see is what you get. But a good purchase well worth your money. Even more fun when you have people that are able to challenge you instead of casually walk by gamers.
cool moves and nice B-52's

Dead or Alive may or may not be better than SC. It all lies in your personal tastes. I like dead or alive's tag team battles, although you might pick up a strategy guide to learn some of the moves that are not listed. buy this game
Very nice, but not good enough

I can't argue with the jaw-dropping visuals (awesome in every respect), the control system is excellent (even easier than Tekken) and I even like the lack of secrets (I hate having to beat the game 5 times just to play as my favorite character), but DOA2 just has too much competition.
What really matters in a fighting game is gameplay... how deep can you go and how much of a difference will it make? DOA2 takes the middle ground: the jump between newbie and expert is pretty extreme (simply get the counters/parries down and the CPU is a piece of cake, as are most humans), but it's pretty easy to become an expert anyway. Soul Calibur fans will feel right at home, but if you're looking for something deeper, you'd be better off with Virtua Fighter 3tb or Capcom vs. SNK.
Frankly, DOA2 plays a lot like VF2 with a bigger "instant gratification" factor: it's very nice, especially against a friend, but the graphics and quick learning curve don't translate to the depth of VF3, the flash of MVC2, or the fun factor of Soul Calibur.

I currently own Soul Caliber, Marvel vs Capcom, and DOA2. Doa2 is a good game and has some good points but out of these three it is easily the least fun. For the price marvel vs Capcom is the best but the depth of playability in Soul caliber is incredible especially the Mission modes and point system allowing players to purchase art which in turn opens new aspects of gameplay such as new characters, levels, costumes, etc,. . . I haven't played Virtual fighter 3tb so I can't comment on it. If its a choice between this and Soul Caliber go with Soul caliber. Doa2 is good but the others are way better and cost less.

This game is drop dead gorgeous. It's got the best stages. these are much better than tekken or virtua fighter. Although there are no extras i dont care i especially like the multi platform levels.
Impressive engine but little long-term playability

Dead or Alive 2 offers a fun fighting engine with impressive depth on the console, but unfortunately its lack of almost anything to make single-player worthwhile means it gets old pretty quickly.
The gameplay is fairly welldone and is probably best described as a median between Virtua Fighter 3tb and Soul Calibur, offering much more of the punch-kick tapping sequences of Virtua Fighter than the more common simultaneous multi-button combos of Soul Calibur. In addition to that, a very cool and complex counters engine has been added such that not only can you counteract almost any hit from your opponent, but you can catch their arm/leg and perform a countermove that frequently does a lot of damage.
My biggest quarrel with the engine would be the difficulty of doing throws. From what I can tell, there's a plethora of throws that each character can do, but incorporating even the simplest ones into a good style is somewhat difficult, and anything much more complex tends to be nigh impossible to actually execute when fighting an opponent. I'm a big fan of professional wrestling, especially the Japanese styles, so I was eager to see Tina's throws (since she uses a pro-wrestling style), but I found it a pain to integrate anything more complex than the simple DVD (Death Valley Driver), Hurracanrana, scoop slam, and occasionally the Ligerbomb. When pulled off, they look good, but it's a pain to do them.
Of course the multi-level arenas and damage-causing walls do add to the game, but it's really not as noticable as you'd think. Killing someone by hitting them against a wall looks impressive, but it's kinda just eyecandy.
The biggest problem by far, as mentioned above, is the lack of single-player options. The game just feels like an arcade game. Soul Calibur made a brilliant move in putting in the "mission mode" in combination with the art gallery, which added for a whole new dimension of play, in addition to the standard unlockable characters/costumes.
Not only does Dead or Alive 2 not offer anything remotely similar to mission mode, but it doesn't even offer the basics of unlockable characters/costumes. All characters are unlocked from the start and they all have all the possible costumes, which really takes the wind out of one's sails.
This gameplay allows for a relatively fun game, but unless you _really_ like the engine and have a friend to play it against for massive amounts of time, it's unlikely to be all that worthwhile a purchase. I'd really recommend renting it first or buying it used.
