I was pretty excited about getting Godzilla unleashed and while it is maringally fun it didn't live up to expectations. My son and I were able to finish the game with unexpected ease and in little time. Yes, you never want a game where the game play is monotonously tedious but you also don't want to finish in a couple of hours after paying $50 or $60 either.
The game basically combines elements of the old Rampage video game as well as fighting games and tosses in some rather weak story features. The story involves aliens causing disasters and monsters to raise havoc by dropping somce crystals all over the earth. It's somewhat confusing at first on just what you are supposed to do in story mode. Are you supposed to destroy buildings? Destroy the Crystals? fight with other monsters? We got the hang of it fairly quickly but it was a bit dicey at first. You get Godzilla, Mothra, and Rodan, and there are villains such as Destroyah, Ghidorah, Mechagodzilla, etc...By earning points in the story mode you unlock other playable monsters and playable city settings. You get only three settings to start with.
I wasn't all the crazy about the story mode. I liked some of the other modes where you can battle against another monster in a one-on-one battle, or tou have a destruction mode where you battle to see who can earn the most points by destroying the city before the timer runs out.
The controls I though were a bit too loose. I'ts not easy pulling off some of the more complicated moves and thus you end up doing just a lot of kicking and punching which gets boring after awhile. The various special powers like Godzilla's atomic breath are cool but I found it a bit hard to aim the blast with the Wii controllers.
The graphics and sounds are one of the better parts of the game. The graphics are sharp and the monsters a rendered perfectly and sound just like the movie versions.
A fun game but not one that i will play now that it's finished
Quite fun but with faults

What could be more fun than giant monsters bashing each other with wanton disregard to property? Godzilla Unleashed lets you do that and with the Wii-mote control you can get a workout while doing it. However, it could've been a memorable experience if the camera is not moving as often as it does. The graphics are quite detailed when it comes to the monsters (I haven't unlocked any. Yet.) but quite generic when it comes to the background. Another thing that detracts from the fun is the AI. Sometimes, it feels like cheating but once you figure how to beat it, you can exploit it over and over without any proper reaction. The controls are a little iffy but good thing, the monsters script is a little repetitive and predictable, it's quite easy. For all its faults, my sons and I had fun bashing each other for a quick game. Solo play is okay just to let off stress but I suggest to hold off playing this unless you really must have a game featuring classic Japanese monsters or it's given to you free as part of the Amazon Vine program.
Not polished enough

This is an interesting but half baked game. From a franchising side there are plenty of characters to play with. However, only a few are available at the start and the progression for unlocking characters is slow. Gameplay is a bit sluggish and lacks the depth of fighting game. There isn't much in the way storyline and the levels can be beaten by surviving long enough. Overall, this game looks and plays as if very little effort was put into anything other than having a large cast of characters.

This is more than any Big G fan could ask for. The roster is amazing for this game 26 monsters in all. The boards and monsters all look great and the controls work pretty well. This was the reason I bought a Wii and I was not disappointed I don't see how they could top this one I definitely reccomend this to any and all Godzilla fans.
Awesome game!!!

I just got this game and absolutely LOVE IT!!! My ONLY complaint is the the control scheme. I have become used to it, however I only wish the developers would have allowed us players to map the controls per preference rather than the default setting. It's not that the controls are too hard to learn, just that I'd rather use the C or Z button for jumping, and the B botton for grabbing (buildings and monsters) instead of manuevering the nunchuck or both controllers to do these tasks. It's just my own personal preference, that's all. Otherwise the game is great!! I love the line up of monsters (4 or 5 more would have been even better...Kamakurus,Gorgosaurus,Manda,Kumunga,Zilla,Hedora...) but they've included Varan,Titanosaurus and Biolante...so that makes up for everything!!! The levels are HUGE!!!! Much bigger that DAMM or SOTE, and just a little smaller than War of the Monsters. Finally, the graphics are awesome as well. I LOVE ALL the ATARI GODZILLA games and this one is right up there!! I hope the Virtual Console imports the NES,SNES and Turbo Graphix Godzilla titles to tie in with this. Those games totally rock too!!!
Pretty good, but probably below my age level.

I play a lot of the mainstream video games even though I am in my early 30s. I was super excited when I heard that Godzilla Unleashed was coming out because I was interested in inviting my friends over and destroying them as various monsters.
I agree with many of the other reviewers who say that the story mode is pretty weak. As this wasn't my primary interest in the game, we can let that be. I think that if I was in high school, this part of the game would probably suit me better.
As for the fighting mode, it is a lot of fun at first as you learn the different moves. However, you have to play the story mode to unlock many of the more compelling characters. Moreover, the graphics are only mediocre, and it is not a game I would bring out in a party. Again, I think if I were younger I would overlook these drawbacks.
All in all, I think it is worth purchasing if you can find it in the $30 range. If you are in high school, go for it at the normal price!
a bit slow moving

Game has some good potential but felt too limited. Would benefit more from a more open environment.
Also the controller doesn't feel as intuitive as I would like. This makes the action feel rather sluggish.

I have a 4 year old and a thirteen year old. My 4 year old loves all Godzilla products including movies. This was bought for him. They both love it. The neighborhood kids love it. One child is 5 and the other is 9. They all want to come to play Godzilla. I would recommend this product even if your child is not into Godzilla. There are many animals you can battle with. As you battle you unlock many new creatures.

This game is a blast, my 11 yo plays it constantly, and he is VERY picky about his games. Lots of action and numerous fight combos. Highly recommended for monster game fans!
