Mario Kart DS - Classic Gameplay with a fresh twist!

I have been a fan of the Mario Kart series since Mario Kart 64, and I must say Mario Kart DS does not disappoint! Mario Kart DS returns to the formula that made Mario Kart 64 and all other incarnations of the Mario Kart series so enjoyable while adding innovations of its own. Here are some pros of the game:

Pros -
+ Various Course Levels (32 in all) - Mario Kart DS reprises some levels from the previous Mario Kart installations, including favorites such as Frappe Snowland from MK64 and the famous Rainbow Road. There are also innovative new levels ranging from a airship fortress, a desert level (complete with the angry sun from Super Mario 3), and a haunted mansion. There are also various obstacles, such as piranha flowers, that try to foil your racing efforts.

+ Unlockable characters

+ Graphics - Graphics on this game are great! They are up to par with that of the N64, especially considering the size of the DS!

+ Mission Mode / Battle Mode - Mission mode is self explanatory, you are given simple missions to complete. Battle mode is like that of the N64, you battle against opponents in either two challenges (you have to either pop your opponents balloons or steal their shiny stars).

+ More items - There are more items to do battle with! And of course old favorites return..

+ Wireless / Multiplayer mode - One of the best parts of the previous Mario Karts was multiplayer mode. Now you can play wirelessly with other DS players, and you only need one game cartridge! And you can also play wirelessly with people from your region or from all over the world (all you need is a wireless router and broadband internet connection)! It's true portable innovation (sometimes I can't believe I'm playing with players from halfway around the world, amazing..)

Cons:
- Wish there were some more levels - This is the only con, and its not really a con, but just a petty complaint. 32 levels is good enough (it has double the courses of Mario Kart Double Dash, and has the same amount of levels as Mario Kart 64). However, I wish they would have reprised more N64 levels..

All in all, Mario Kart DS is highly recommended for the DS! Like all other Mario games, Mario Kart DS takes a classic game and keeps it fresh and most of all retains the fun. Make this one to own!

It always seems to me that racing games for video games have came close to being all one in the same. Nevertheless, that hasn't meant that all racing games are all bad. That has absolutemy been the case with Mario Kart from Nintendo. Since the franchise debuted in 1993 for the Super Nintendo system, it has been recognized as one of the most popular racing games in video game history. Since then, Mario Kart has really scored big for systems like the Nintendo 64, and the Nintendo Gamecube. Now, it is set to show again on the portable video game market. Last time, it really felt a little dismal with Mario Kart: Super Circuit for the Game Boy Advance. Can this one score better? Yes it can.

Mario Kart DS for the Nintendo DS handheld, is a highly received game that again finds Mario and his pals into the extreme worlds of racing. This time, the time goes even better than before. The game features 2 seperate gand prixs than just 1. The main surprise is the retro grand prix with tracks from all the earlier Mario Kart games, which is great for anybody who hasn't played the earlier Mario Kart games, especially the ones for the Super NES and Nintendo 64. There is also the DS grand prix's, with 16 new and exciting tracks to play. This time, there is also more to unlock in this game including characters like Daisy, and Dry Bones who recently made a comeback on Mario Superstar Baseball and Mario Party 7 for the Gamecube, and delightful new cars to race. The game also highlights the wi-fi connection for players to race interactively head-to-head. The control and the gameplay is juat amazing, and a great improvement in the portable edition. The sounds and the gameplay is great and just incredible fun to play.

If you own a Nintendo DS game system, this is one game you can't help but buy. Mario Kart DS is a pure racing delight for all gamers, and adds on to what Nintendo has built behind Mario and friends' checkered flag.

The Best of Mario Kart

This is the best Mario Kart game to date. It has everything a Mario Kart fan could want, plenty of racers, lots of carts to choose from, challenging tracks, and weapons to drive your opponets crazy. In higher engine classes, you're opponets are not only faster, but more aggressive too.

The missions option is great help if you want to improve your racing skills. Some things can be tricky to pull off so the missions can really help out with that. The WiFi connection tends to lag just a little when playing online but it doesn't happen too often.

If there is only one reason to get a Nintendo DS, this is it. See you at the races.

Best Racing Game For The DS

I just got Mario Kart DS and it's a great racing game! I LOVE the Wi-Fi!!!! You also have mission mode. You have to beat about 7 missions and then you beat a boss like Big Bully (The bomb guy). You also get to drive in 50cc, 100cc, 150cc, and Mirror Mode! Just like the Mario Kart for GameCube. There are also a couple of new items and a couple of new characters! I'm not going to tell you because you have to figure it out by buying the game yourself. I hope you get the game so we can race each other in Wi-Fi! By the way, my Wi-Fi name is Peach1. I hope you find me!

Another MUST HAVE Title

Who says the DS doesn't have great games? Liars, that's who! And with DS Mario Kart you can say you've got one of the best titles to hit the DS! And with Nintendo DS now with Wi-Fi Connection, you can play online and enjoy the fun with up to seven other players!

Mario Kart DS, like all the others, features grand prix races for you to race in. Most of them won't be availible until you complete other races, but that's the fun of Mario Kart. The races are not too hard, and they're a load of fun! Four of these tracks are brand new, but several are taken from previous Mario Kart titles. From the SNES, to the GBA release just a couple of years ago. You can enter cups at 50cc, 100cc, or 150cc. This, of course, is the difficulty level. You'll not only notice your opponents get faster, but they'll get more aggressive as well.

There are eight characters with two vehciles each. Well, at first. As you progress through the game you'll unlock more. When deciding on a character you of course are looking at speed, acceleration, etc. but you may also want to look at things like... the drifting... or their item attribute. A low item attribute will often net you items that are pretty much useless.

This is NOT just a rehash of an old game, though. I noted that there are four new tracks, and that it actually combines earlier titles. But there are also new powerups in this one. You now have a Bullet Bill power up which will increase your speed (and send you temporarily into auto-pilot). You'll also be able to fire off a Bob-omb (that'll really mess your opponents up) and you can now release a blooper (those squid guys) to squirt ink on the screen of your opponents. These new editions are worth it.

In addition to the new power ups and tracks, you've also got "Mission" mode. This will pit you into courses where you'll have to perform certain task to move on. For example, you may need to pass through gates in a certain order. There are six groups with nine levels each. Each group ending with a boss.

Now let's move on to the best stuff. The reason a lot of us still play Mario Kart games. The battling! You can do the balloon battles and shine runners in a single player mode, but not do them on multi-player would be a sin. Mario Kart DS takes complete and total advantage of Nintendo's Wi-Fi usage. So challenge some people!

Getting on the Wi-Fi has great oppurtunities. You can have up to 36 rivals, and you can challenge people all over the world. The problem of course, being you could lose the connection. There's little problems with the Wi-Fi connection, though, and it's much more fun than it appears to be.

As you might have guessed, the game looks and sounds great! It's smooth, like the visuals of the N64 version, only smoother--not as blocky. The sounds are great and so are the sound effects. And because the DS in Stereo, you'll love it with all your heart.

Mario Kart DS is another must own DS title. It isn't just some port of an old game, it throws in a ton of new stuff. So don't think of passing this up by saying, "I've got it on N64!" The N64 version has nothing on this. So grab it!

The Good:

+FUN STUFF TO UNLOCK!
+Great Graphics
+Great Sound!
+You can play multiplayer with a single pack!
+Fully takes advantage of Nintedno Wi-Fi
+Not just a rehash of Super Mario Kart 64, it's actually it's own title!

The Bad

-Your friends and family will certainly feel neglected--unless they have this game!

Mario Kart DS, A Superstar Game

Mario Kart DS is a really exciting game with its fast speed and it is loaded with items. Mario Kart DS has tons of cool game modes like the following: Grand Prix, where the player chooses an engine class, a driver, a kart, and a cup to race the CPU in four competitive races (at first the only engine class the player can choose is 50cc); Time Trials, the player can choose any track he has and practice it until he feels confortable at that track; VS, where the player can challange the CPU to a race with the players rules; Battle, where the player fights to stay in the game and destroy his enemy; Missions, where the player has to complete eight missions before he can fight the boss in that level and the player has to start at level one; Records, where the player can look at times or trophies to see how good their doing.

During the game the player can do cool things like the following: Rocket Start, the player has to press and hold the A button at just the right time to get the rocket start; Drafting(new), where the player has to be behind the kart to draft and speed around the kart when the player sees white things around his kart; Drift, which helps when you are behind(press the R button and right or left on the control pad to preform the drift); Mini-Turbo, alternate between the left and right buttons on the control pad while holding R until the tires burn red then let go of the R button to preform the Mini-Turbo; Items, press X to throw the item, press the down button to throw the item backwards.

Items are the most helpful thing in the world because Nintendo added two new items, the bullet bill and the blooper, the bullet bill will fire the player to the middle ( or some times the front ) of the pack and the blooper will spray ink on the screen to block the player's vision to slow him down ( look at the bottom screen to keep going).

In the Options menu, there are three things the player can do, they are the following: Settings, here the player can change the sound and turn the locate friend thing on or off; Edit, here the player can change his nickname or create an emblem;
Erase Data, we all know what that does.

There are also two multiplayer modes they are the following: Normal Mode, this is wireless play; Simple Mode, this is download play.

I would recommend this game to players who like Mario Kart and a really fun game.

Terrific graphics, easily controls, and just plain fun!

I jumped on board when the DS Lite hit the market. The initial DS didn't do anything for me as it resembled a game console that was made during the PS1 era. Kudos to Nintendo for the re-design.

On to the game... I never really played Mario Kart on SNES where all the fun started. I did however enjoy it on the N64 and was addicted to it. The colors, sounds, tracks, etc. All my senses were put to their max.

Now Mario Kart DS... All the fun of the previous games has been brought to the DS with great results! The graphics are absolutely gorgeous. The use of the second screen is terrific which allows you to see not only where the other players are, but the `bad things' the other plays have left for you. Things like shells, banana peels, etc.

The online game play is a blast too! For the most part I play online as it is fun playing with people of all different skills. I'm not a pro at this game, so it's fun seeing how the `pros' do their thing and it helps me learn.

In a nut-shell if you own a DS Lite and enjoy fun game play then Mario Kart DS needs to be added to your library! The replay value is really high as the online play always keeps it active and fresh.

The ability to play with or DS owners with only one cart (which I have yet to try) seems very cool!

It keeps my attention and I love playing it. I have the attention span of a goldfish, so any game that keeps me playing over and over is a winner in my book!

This game is highly recommended for anybody. Age is not an issue! :)

This game gets all 5 stars! Graphics, game play, replay value, and sound are all top notch!

Most fun since Double Dash

This is probably the BEST of the Mario Kart series. Over 32 tracks, 16 of which are from the previous Mario Kart games ensures that you'll have hours of fun reliving old memories and making new ones. The controls are very simple and easy on the DS and the dual screens are ingeniously used to not only show the normal driving view, but also a convenient top view (useful for knowing where to drop items behind you). Definitely a must-have for any DS owner.

Fun for kids and adults!

I LOVE this game! It's the reason everyone I know has a Nintendo DS. I love to bomb a friend or take them out with a banana peel and hear them groan across the room!

You can also play online, but the people there are CRAZY good. I've never won an online race before...

I play alone just so I can open up new cars and characters. It's a great family game that I can play with my nephew, husband and sister!
