Bond Has Come Home

While this game hasn't been released yet, so no one out there can really review it yet, as an employee of EA (but not on any of the Bond teams), I would like to give my thoughts and opinions on how this game has turned out.

First, this game is truely amazing. Being a big fan of Rare's Goldeney and Perfect Dark, I was wondering if it would be possible to top those gaming experiences. In the end, I would say yes. To me, The Worlds Not Enough is the first Bond not made by Rare to top Goldeneye and Perfect Dark on all levels. The graphics are incredibly detailed, smooth, and for the most part run at an incredibly smooth frame rate. Even in levels with filled with city detail, cars, people, explosions, etc., the game maintains a very good frame rate. The character animations and models are also a big step over what was seen in Goldeneye and Perfect Dark. In graphics, The Worlds Not Enough truely shows what the Nintendo 64 is capable of. When using the expansion pack, which I recommend, the graphics are even more amazing. While many games that employee the use of the expansion pack, most of the time its only for high-res graphics, usually resulting in frame rate problems. This is not the case for The Worlds Not Enough. While yes the expansion pack is used for optional high-res graphics, it is also used to improve the visual effects in the game. Best of all, unlike a lot of games that use it, it doesn't become a trade off....better graphics, not so great frame rate. Even with the use of the pack, the frame rate remains pretty constant.

Sound is another high point for the game. Of course it tops Goldeneye since that game was released by in 1997, but it also tops the sound found in Perfect Dark. The games' score is strong, very bond-ish, and helps to really draw you into the game. Same thing goes for the sound effects. Voice audio is also a huge plus. The game features a large amount of voice acting that sounds like its straight out of the movie. While yes Perfect Dark featured a great deal of voice recordings, the audio quality of the voice recordings in The Worlds Not Enough is of a higher quality, resulting in clearer/stonger audio.

The gameplay is also top notch. If you have played Goldeneye or Perfect Dark, then you will have no probably picking up that controller and getting right into the game. Eurocom, the developer for the N64 version, has done an terrific job capturing the feel and enjoyment found in the two Rare titles.

Overall, this is truely an amazing and very enjoyable game. I highly recommend the purchase of this game by anyone who is a Bond fan, a first person shooter fan, or just a fan of great games. While some may believe I am only saying this because I am employeed by EA, that's not it at all. Like many Nintendo fans, I only except the highest quality games, and will only recommend a game if it meets my expectations. This game not only met all of my expectations, but surpased them and makes me excited for the next Bond game. I highly recommend the purchase.

The Best First-person shooter on the N64?

This is one of the most anticipated games of the year. But is it as good as we want it to be and is it worth buying? The following info should help you to decide.

In this game you are James Bond who must go through these levels with stealth and caution. The enemies start in different locations each time you play the game so don't try memorizing their locations. You will be using pistols most of the time but there are still forty other weapons and gadgets you can use.Like in Perfect Dark(PD) the weapons all have second functions.Pretty much all characters in single-player are available in multi-player however you must earn them like in GoldenEye(GE) and PD.The graphics are incredible with the use of the expansion pak and the levels are great! You must save your progress with a memory pak which can be a pain sometimes but hey, that doesn't effect the gameplay at all.By the way, there are hardly any slow downs in the game like there is in GE and PD which is a big plus. There are 14 levels and just as many,if not more, multi levels. There are many options in multi including the option to put in simulants.Hope that helped.

Refreshing, great multiplayer game: 00-sensational!

I have both Goldeneye and Perfect Dark and have just started playing TWINE. It is a really refreshing change from Goldeneye and Perfect Dark - and it follows the film extremely well including animated extracts from the film.

Positives: #The weapons in this game have a great feel-good sensation

#There are a lot more multiplayer levels that are not too large yet still exciting.

#The opportuntity for sims in multiplayer

#Multiplayer is better than PD as the graphics in PD can sometimes get jerky and fuzzy especially when there are a lot of multiplayers and sims.

#More gadgets than Goldeneye

#Great pre- and post-mission "movies" with voices this time (unlike Goldeneye)

Negatives

#Perhaps not as many options as in PD (especially in multiplayer), but as a result it's graphics don't suffer (so perhaps a positive).

#Lack of a good intro to the game

#Loading time

However the postives completely outweigh the negatives - this is a great game and I have enjoyed the variety in missions, the great weapons, the scintillating multiplayer games and exciting new gadgets.

A sensational successor to Goldeneye 007. Give it a go.

This is a great game based on the movie. It is hard to give a summary about a game. First of all it is a great game with over ten levels. It is even better than GoldenEye 007. It does not have as many extra options as Pefect Dark. If you don't know yet this is a 3-D FPS (First Person Shooter) game. It has a great multiplayer mode. The characters you ca choose from are: James Bond, M, Q, MoneyPenny, Elektra, Christmas, and Renard. All characters from the hit Bond movie. The regular game has levels like, Submarine, Skiing, and Streets. You can do many things in the game like: Jumping, walking, swimming, running. It is agreat game and I like it.

This has got to have been one of the most eagerly awaited games of all time, and i have to say that its pretty good. Although its not visualy as good as Goldeneye there are are a lot of factors that make this game better. There are loads of new levels various new weapons, and a whole new story. Everyone who was a fan of Goldeneye must own this game or they will miss out on all of the fun that they had with Goldeneye.

Great fun for any Bond fan

The third in an increasing popular series of Bond video games, The World is Not Enough follows in the tradition of Goldeneye and Tomorrow Never Dies. In TWiNE, you play Bond, James Bond, as he goes through the various stages of the movie. Each mission represents one section of the plot, starting from the banking building in Spain and moving onward. The missions tend to be longer and more drawn out then the movie showed, making the game last far longer than the movie did!

The graphics are stellar on this version, a big enhancement from the last two games. Bond is very realistic looking, as are the various people he meets and talks to. You interact with people in a variety of ways, from watching civilians huddle in fear to exchanging witty comments with the bad guys. And, yes, there are times that you have to pull out your P2K and start plugging holes in those who will not listen to reason.

While the game does have its shoot-it-out aspects, it is much more than a first-person shooter. It's much more like Thief, where you can find sneaky, non-violent ways around many situations. Want to get into a room? You can run in with guns blazing, taking out anyone who crosses your path. Favor a more thoughtful approach? Try running when the camera is pointing the other way, and ducking into nooks.

The tools of the trade are wonderfully done and quite useful. A fingerprint scanner lets you steal fingerprints off a coffee thermos, getting you into restricted areas. Block the metal detector with a spinning gizmo straight out of a sci-fi movie. Don't the guards notice you walking around with this thing? Sometimes it's better not to ask questions.

The cut scenes between missions are straight out of the movie, and hints help nudge you through the mission if you choose to use them. There are choices of difficulty, so you can play through on the easier level and then go back for a harder challenge. Playing well also unlocks cheats, so do your best!

In all, a great game for any action fan, available on both Nintendo-64 and Playstation.

Not A Worthy Sequel

This game will be and should be compared to Goldeneye. Goldeneye was in my view a masterpiece of a video game. TWINE is okay, but is should not be construed as a sequel by any means. I do not want to completely belittle this game. There are more weapons and the functions they have are more diverse. Each weapon has a secondary fire mode and it is nice to be able to put on and take off the silencer of your pistol. The vaunted voice compression adds something to the game, but not a great deal in terms of playability.

Now for the stuff I didn't care for: The load times are a huge annoyance. One of the reasons I bought the 64 platform was to avoid the load times associated with PlayStation and other Cd based platforms. This will sound barbaric, but in Goldeneye, when you shoot a bad guy, the pixels around the point of impact turn red. It adds to the realism of the game. In TWINE, you may as well be shooting department store dummies. I also detest the fact that when you fail a mission requirement, the mission ends automatically. You have no say in the matter. Two of my biggest complaints are that A) In Goldeneye, it was possible to interact with the environment outside of the context of the mission or the movie storyline. For instance: Could I shoot and hit that coffee cup on the table? Or: What happens if I fire my grenade launcher off the dam? Not so in TWINE. You cannot interact with the environment or the characters outside the context of the mission. These little details are to me what separates a good video game from a great video game. This leads me to another negative: TWINE is a very static game. In Goldeneye, there is a possibility of change from play to play, even if those changes are minor. For example: You may run into a bad guy at a slightly different place. In TWINE, it's the same with almost no variation everytime you play it. Finally, the bad guys in Goldeneye are MUCH smarter than in TWINE. In Goldeneye, the bad guys would chase you down and continue to pursue you. In TWINE, I don't know how many times I've alerted the guards to my presence only to have them stand there pointing their weapons at empty air after I've entered a different room. Hugely disappointing.

To be honest, this game somewhat reminds me of the extremely poor "Mission Impossible" N64 game that came out a few years ago. I will continue to play this game until I beat it, then go back to playing Goldeneye or buy Perfect Dark.

Great for One Player, Lacking in Multiplayer

I know what you are all thinking... "Only 3 stars? Are you insane?" But allow me to explain:

This is an incredible new game if you are primarily interested in the Single-Player aspect. Like GoldeEye, it features fast-paced action and intrigue as you wander through maze-like streets, and incredibly detailed buildings as 007 himself. The weapons are mostly new, and have a slower reloading time which can be annoying when your screen is full of bad guys, but in the end adds to the challenge and feels more realistic. Also, Bond gets to use "Gadgets" now, like X-Ray goggles, and grappling hooks. This is great because now you feel like you really are using Q's high-tech toys rather than just pressing a buttons. Finally, the new one-player levels are just as good if not better than the original, becuase of their incredible detail.

However, I am not impressed with the MultiPlayer aspect of this game, which is a major problem in my opinion. First off, everyone who got used to the inverted targeting from Goldeneye and Perfect Dark will find they have to manually switch their targeting options on *each* controller *every* time they play a multiplayer game. Also, the weapons selection is very limited and highly unorganized. In GE, you could essentially choose almost exactly which weapons you wanted, as you can in Perfect Dark. However in TWINE, you only get 3 options for "weapons detail" and they are High, Medium, and Low. So no more choosing "Rocket Launchers" or "Power Weapons" for your multiplayer games. Now your weapons are mostly a surprise. Also, pressing "Start" during multiplayer causes everyone's screen to shut off rather than just showing you your current stats while allowing everyone else to continue playing. This is VERY annoying during play because it really breaks up the continuity of the game, and the flow of the action. Finally, TWINE (like Perfect Dark) allows you the option of playing against computer players during multiplayer too, BUT it doesn't let you adjust their skill level - which seems far superior to "human" standards. The new multiplayer levels are... well, new. But they lack the charm of the originals (I don't know, maybe it's jsut because I don't know my way around them all yet, but I don't like them nearly as much). I suppose they're ok if you are just looking for a change of scenery. Anyway, I suppose once I get used to these things, I'll like it a little more. But for now it just feels wrong.

My final complaint is not at all that important, but I feel it's worth mentioning. Is there really a need for all the title screens at startup? You are forced to eudure about 6 of them, each for about 5 seconds. First is a licensing screen, then a MGM logo, then another logo, then another... It makes you feel like you are either waiting for all the legal warnings to pass before watching a DVD, or playing Playstation and waiting through those incessant loading times.

I really like this game as a 1st Person shooter, but I don't think it comes anywhere near its predecessors with respect to multiplayer. If you are mainly interested in this game as one player, then buy it! But if you are looking for a good multiplayer game, stick with the original, or buy Perfect Dark.

I just purchased twine last night, and am now in the fourth stage of the game. There are three things that hit you right away. 1-you need a control pack to save 2-the c-up button now makes bond jump instead of look up (bummer) 3-this game has short load times. The gameplay is not like goldeneye or perfect dark. The only thing i can compare it to is a first-person syphon filter. This game is fun, but only if you compare it to itself. This game is not a goldenye or perfect dark sequel, and if that's what you think your buying you will be disapointed. The game follows the auctual movie better than goldeneye did, which makes the game more enjoyable. The real-time annimation that tells the story has excellent voices, but the visual detail is very disapointing. So in conlusion..this game deserves a soild 8 out of 10, but if your looking for a pure shooter, stick with goldeneye and perfect dark. ~oocaveman

This game is great!

This great game is much better than its preceder, Goldeney. There are many levels ranging from the heart of London to the Middle East.each level is richly detailed and immerses you in a 3D arena. The game is based on the recent movie: The World is not enough 007.There are more than 400 recorded text lines.Of course,James Bond will be using some cool gadgets, starting with his modified BMW Z8 car, his key copier and the sleek Q boat.
