The names Bond, James Bond. Those five words mark the saying of probably on of the most famous fictional spy of all time. And, finally he came to the Nintendo 64. This game is by far the best game for any console. It kicks Resident Evil's butt all the way back to campcom's facility to teach them not to make such stupid looking games.

fun lots of fun

Goldeneye is the best game for 64 and is one fo the best games out there. though it does not have the best graphics or can sometimes be unrealistic it is neverending fun. random guys just keep coming and do stupid things and thats very entertaining. you can get in a take and nfinate numbers of guys come after you and you can just blow them up. and there are mysterys like on the dam and you look across the water and see that guard tower can you get there? whats in there? no one knows but me and my friends alwasy tell each other are theories. anyways this game is better then alot of gamecube and ps2 games. it is second to only Halo. if you like this game get Perfect dark also but you have to get that gay expansion pack. o ya and multiplayer. thats fun to because you can beat all your friends and make fun of them. buy this game.

The Former Best Game of the System

Goldeneye, in so many words, is the classic Nintendo 64 game. It has a nice blend between game speed and graphics. The pixel rate is high, so there is no fogging and crystal clear skies for miles, allowing excellent sniping that is unavailable in other games; the sniper rifle plays a less important role in multiplayer. However, Goldeneye is outdated by Perfect Dark 64, also put out by Rare. If you don't have an expansion pack, and are not will to pay $90 (for Perfect Dark and the expansion pack) then Goldeneye is the game for you. You can find yourself playing it over and over again.

...but Perfect Dark is better! Goldeneye was the greatest game ever, and I totally loved it, until Perfect Dark cam out. It's pretty much the same thing as goldeneye, but with better characters and the weapons are SO much kewler and better!

A Great game, but has some technical bugs

First off, let me say that Goldeneye is the single greatest N64 game I have ever played, and that includes Perfect Dark. The entire concept of first-person-shooter and strategy is awesome. However, there were a few minor bugs with the game which I thought detracted from gameplay. I noticed that, when the difficulty setting is placed on 'secret agent' (medium difficulty) and especially 'double OO Agent' (very difficult), there tend to be so many enemy troops onscreen that the N64's frame rate goes down. That means that, while you're pressing the trigger to mow down the enemy soldiers, the computer isn't recognizing the fact that you're launching bullets, and so you'll only be shooting off a few rounds (very slowly) while the gang of enemies you're facing are --inexplicably-- pumping you full of shells. The N64 expansion pack doesn't correct this problem because Goldeneye is older than the expansion accessory and thus does not benefit from the new technology (which helped Perfect Dark avoid a little of the slowdown). Although I eventually defeated the game on all three levels (you can avoid the graphics slowdown at times by hiding behind corners and waiting for individual enemies to separate from their squad so you can pick them off), I felt that I could have had more fun if I didn't always have to resort to hiding behind crates or walls to shoot enemies -- not because it's required of the mission, but simply because the N64's graphics engine cannot handle the combat efficiently in any other way. I sometimes wanted to just take the AK47 rifle and burst into a room full of Soviet troops and spray them with bullets -- hey, don't we all -- but the graphics slowdown on "secret agent" and "OO agent" mode prevents you from doing this without James Bond receiving several wounds in return. I also found it unrealistic that, on OO Agent mode, you can literally empty your pistol (7 rounds) into a guard at point blank range and he will not only survive but retain enough capacity to return fire! This becomes even more unrealistic with regards to rifle bullets. Come on, if you take a 7.62mm military-gauge rifle round to the chest from ten feet away, you're going down, pal. I also found it odd that you can use the sniper rifle to take out a pair of guards from far away, and when one guard screams and goes down, the second guard just stands there oblivious and waits for his turn to get shot. All these flaws, however, I suspect are the limitations of the N64 engine and not really a design flaw. From whatever angle you're coming from, Goldeneye is, along with MArio64 and Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time, the game which defines the N64's place in video game history.

Great Graphics for its time. Way better and cooler weapons than the newer James Bond Games. Great Multiplayer mode. This game WON'T Disappoint you.

I got this game when it first came out, four or five years ago, and i have played it since. This game is like Guns n' Roses' debut album, "Appetite for distruction"; it was somthing new and different and nothin since has come close. No matter how many times you play this game you will not get tired of it. And after you play this one, never expect to get the same thing from another bond game cuz this is as good as it gets. The only game that comes close is perfect dark.

So if you do not already own this game, (which seems very unlikely) wake up and smell the trigger, because you're missin out.

The best game for 64

Goldeneye was one of the first games for N64 and is the best game in my mind for N64. Even if you never heard of Bond... James Bond you will love this games so many cheats, levels, and charcators for multiplayer this really is a great game.
