in this game you push a sticky ball (katamari) around and as you do you pick up different objects. the more you pick up, the bigger your katamari gets. the bigger the katarmari the bigger the objects you get to roll up. The most fun are the people and animals that you roll up. They scream and try to run out of the way. I love this game. it is challenging, beautiful and so much fun. It is addictive and everyone in the family can play. The kids completley love it. You can also collect cousins and play as them and outfits that you can wear. This game is so strange and wonderful, a total trip.

...And Katamari <3's Us

"Katamari Damacy" is a game that tends to polarize people; either you love it or you don't get it. When it first came out, it made a splash on both sides of the Pacific; no one had ever seen a game quite like this before. The premise -- you roll around a ball and stuff sticks to it -- sounds dumb in writing, but it makes for some remarkably addictive gameplay. It's one of the weirdest games ever, and fans will be happy to know that the sequel is even weirder. It's also better.

"We <3 Katamari" doesn't make the mistake of trying to revamp the gameplay; the controls are virtually identical to the first one, and the graphics are still colorful and simplistic. The flashy, LSD-tinged cutscenes are intact, as is the hilariously random, lost-in-translation dialogue. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. The sequel takes all (okay, most) of the best elements from the first game and expands upon them, opening up new possibilities and a multitude of fun environments. As before, you roll the Katamari around, picking up objects and growing steadily larger. Starting with small items such as paper clips, pens, and sushi, you gradually move up to appliances, bugs, tools, plants, animals, furniture, people, cars, trees, buildings, cities, landmarks, continents -- and, finally, planets. Everything and anything can be picked up and added to the ball. If this sounds stupid to you, you're probably looking at the wrong game.

There is a plot, sort of. In the first game, the King of All Cosmos -- a ditzy, self-absorbed cosmic monarch with a pillow-shaped head -- went on a drunken rampage and destroyed all the stars in the sky. His little green-clad son, the Prince, solved the problem by rolling up Katamaris, which the King launched into space and turned into new stars. In a nice twist, the second game centers around the popularity of the first. You're still the Prince, only now you're strolling around a pretty meadow. The meadow is full of "Katamari Damacy" fans, each of whom has a request for the King. The courses and challenges are based on what the fans want, and the best element of the game is its wide variety of different courses. The main courses are still set in the house/town/world environment from the first game, but there's also a lot more. For instance, at one point you have to roll up all the rain clouds in the sky so a kid can go on his field trip. In another course, the Katamari is on fire and you must constantly pick up fuel to keep it from going out. You get to roll underwater, make a giant snowman, collect 1,000 paper cranes....the creators have outdone themselves in interesting challenges.

As in the first game, each level contains a Royal Present to find. Once found, the presents can be equipped and worn. They range from the conventional (a scarf) to the utterly bizarre (a miniature Mt. Fuji on your head). However, the presents pale in comparison to the game's biggest subquest: the Second Cousins. Turns out the Prince has a very large extended family, and his 42 second cousins are scattered throughout the levels. Finding them is highly rewarding because once you've found a cousin, you can play as him or her. Tired of the Prince? Try playing as Lucha (who's a wrestler), Lalala (who's a nudist), Miso (who has a bowl of soup for a head), or one of the others. Some of the cousins are hard to track down, but finding them all unlocks a Secret Bonus Level. Gotta love those Secret Bonus Levels.

As you progress, you're rewarded with cutscenes showing the King's childhood, how his Daddy didn't appreciate him, how he met the Queen of All Cosmos, etc. How exactly does this relate to the game? Not much, although the running gag of "Katamari" is that the King considers himself the star of the game, despite the fact the Prince does all the work. In fact, the poor little guy is usually griped at for not making the Katamari big enough. How big is big enough? Well, the ultimate goal of the game (one of them, anyway) is to roll up the sun. Yeah, the sun. I would not dream of revealing how you do this, because if you've read this far, then you must be interested in the game. So let me repeat that "We <3 Katamari" is more than worth it. If you were a fan of the first game, you'll flip for this sequel, and if you're new to this bizarre little franchise....well, welcome aboard.

PS: There's one more game, "Me and My Katamari," for the PSP. Unfortunately, it looks as if the Katamari series ends there; I've heard that the game's creator abandoned video games to design children's playgrounds. I don't know if it's true or not, but clearly, the world needs more people like that.

I Love Katamari!

First of all, if you haven't played the first game, "Katamari Damacy", then immediately go get it and play that first. It's a great game and "We Love Katamari" is basically a sequel for all of us longing to relive the original experience.
This time around has the prince and his many cousins rolling up tabletops, countrysides, underwater worlds, magical realms and the heavens above. All this with katamaris made of fire, snow, fireflies and more....
The gameplay is pretty much the same as the first game. You roll around and get your katamari bigger to meet either a time or size deadline. Rolling up everything from pushpins to buildings.
The heart of this game is it's attention to detail and it's whimsical nature. It seems to poke fun at itself at every corner which only adds to the smart, silly fun.
Variety is the spice of life in "We Love Katamari". Some may think that the game is a bit skimpy, however, I think that there is tremendous variety this time around. I have noticed that it takes almost a flawless run to get praise from the king and you need to explore each level completely. It's tough to get bored when you go racing around a racetrack, to rolling up rainclouds, then going underwater, rolling up fireflies at night, in the snow, a magical flower world and rolling up a zoo... And that's just what I played last night!!
This game is the perfect sequel to Katamari Damacy. Not sure if it would stand up on it's own, but it doesn't have to, it's purpose is to give all of us Katamari fans a thrill.
Good job, I say.

Just plain fun

We ordered this game because we had played the demo on another disc, and we thought it was funny. It has been a joy to play and lots of fun. My two sons have enjoyed it inmensely. Non violent, no bloody scenes, no fights, the game is just fun for anyone. I have even played it a couple of times and it seems like the kind of game to enjoy after a stressful day. I recommend it.

Not bad, relatively the same game

Think of We Love Katamari not so much as a sequel, but more of a "Katamari expansion pack." Of course, if you enjoyed the first game then this is no bad thing.

Plot: Katamari Damacy generated lots of fans. The fans need/want your help rolling stuff up. There are also "chapters" inbetween levels with a sort of backstory about the King of All Cosmos.

Controls: The same as the original game. The exception is co-op mode, where 2 players work together to control one Katamari. This is an interesting twist because it requires quite a bit of communication. Interesting, yet also slightly frustrating.

Music: Much of the same type and songs from the original ("na na na etc.").

Vs. mode: Larger areas to roll around in, such as the town. You're not rolling for size, however, but to see who can collect the most of a randomly chosen object. Vs. mode still falls short of it's potential, as the larger areas aren't really a huge improvement and the "race for objects" isn't really that fun.

Improvements from first game: Happily, there is more variety in level objectives than in the first game. Levels themselves are more creative (being underwater, rolling in snow, rolling in the sky, racetrack rolling). Levels have different modes too, such as roll for size or roll for time. Other levels get harder each time you beat it by raising the size of your objective.

Replay value: Because of the variety among and within levels, the replay value isn't bad at all. Plus it is the type of game where you constantly try to beat your best score.

Graphics: Same as original game, complete with pandas, mushrooms, rainbows etc.

I think it's just as good as the original, slightly better due to the improved variety of things. The negative side of it is that since it is a sort of sequel, it's lost something of it's original freshness.

We LOVE Katamari

We Love Katamari unapologetically revels in its own extraneousness. The setup for this latest session of clump-rolling is that the people of Earth had become downright obsessed with the enigmatic King and his katamaris. Eagerly, they show their affection for King and katamari by making all sorts of requests for demonstrations of the katamari's power, and by generally feeding the King's ego with many, many compliments. The King, being ever the crowd-pleaser, is always happy to oblige the affectionate earthlings, and so he puts the Prince (and this time, his many, many cousins) to work, demanding even bigger and more exciting katamaris than ever before.
We Love Katamari is basically just a big, happy love letter to the fans that contributed to the first game's success. Namco clearly had no intention of mucking up a winning formula, and as such, it has created a sequel that delivers more of the same fetchingly enjoyable gameplay and whimsical humor that made Katamari Damacy so much fun. Undeniably, We Love Katamari lacks the consummate originality of the first game, but for most, the lack of originality won't be a hindrance. And anybody who played and enjoyed Katamari Damacy will feel right at home with the sequel.

An honest review

We Love Katamari is the sequel to 2004's insanely fun and original Katamari Damacy. The overall story of the first game was for you, the Prince of All Cosmos, to collect items using Katamaris so that you could make constellations after the King of All Cosmos accidentally destroys them. Katamari Damacy was probably the best "budget title" to ever be released on the Playstation 2 and even though it was shortlived, it was still a very fun game. It featured trippy Japanese humor, as well as some imaginative gameplay. Although it featured mostly cel drawn animation and purposeful blocky 3D animation, everything meshed really well. The second one is pretty similar, but in this game, you are trying to appease the wishes of your fans from the first game. You go from person to person fulfilling thier request, as they bow down to their hero, the King of All Cosmos.

Although the second game in many respects is better than Katamari Damacy, with a whole year of work, there could have been more to the game. The game was definately longer, and the new types of modes and multiplayer options make this game really fun, but it failed to innovate on the first game. I'll break it down by catagory to make it easy to understand.

Graphics - 8/10 - The first game had incredible cartoony and fun Japanese humor in 3D form. Crisper edges, and more vivid colors make this game's graphics pop a little more from the first game, but is mostly running on the same engine, which is somewhat disappointing, but expected. Even though it does use mostly the same engine, everything still looks really nice, and isn't an eyesoar to look at.

Gameplay - 10/10 - Just as fun as ever. Good framerate and some of the technical problems that were in the first game were solved, which is really nice. Although there were minor differences in gameplay for each cousin, it would have been nice to see a larger variation, but either way, it was pretty good. The new types of levels really came out nicely, and don't seem awkward like I thought they would, and glitches and bugs are realatively low.

Sound - 10/10 - Probably the best part of this game. Amazing soundtrack, hilarious noises, and great bass. Just as the first game, this brings this game to an all time excellence. I wish the entire game could be as good as the sound, but even though it isn't, it doesn't make it a bad game.

Replay Value - 8/10 - The new co-op mode is alright, but my friend is really bad at listening, so it wasn't too exciting. The battle mode is still fun, and I liked how they made variety in it this time. You can now multiplay to collect the most of a certain type of item instead of just making a larger Katamari. The game was a little longer than the first game, which is good, and expected due to the price of game increasing from $20 to $30 over the previous one.

BOTTOM LINE - If you liked or played the first game, get it... and if your looking for a light hearted, fun, and way out there game, We Love Katamari fits your mold.

One of the Awesomest Games EVER.

We love Katamari is the most strangest game I have ever played. It's so strange, and demented, and awesome at the same time, I love it!

We love Katamari takes place after the original game, Katamari Damacy, where the King of the Cosmos destroyed all the stars, and they had to make new ones by rolling stuff up with a sticky ball.
In this sequel, they continue more katamari rolling fun for the fans!
The object of the game is to roll up stuff with a sticky ball. You have to get it to the size showed, within the time limit. It may sound simple, but it's actually really addicting.

And aside from just rolling, you get to hear some really awesome music, and see some of the strangest video game movies ever. Which are also awesome.

I would definetely recommend We Love Katamari to anyone. It is very cool, and very much worth the money.

Katamari love!

Our whole family plays this game! We fell in love with the first Katamari game, but it was frustrating trying to complete each subsequently harder level. This game isn't like that. Each level is different in its own right. Some levels require you to roll faster, some bigger, some of them you have to gather as many of a certain item as you can find. It is challenging without the frustration. You can always go back and try to do better on each level, find the cousin or the present that is hidden...or you can continue on. There is a two player mode also. It's much more fun than the first Katamari. Of course if you don't know the premise of the first game you might not understand the king's and the common peoples' rantings...but it's simple enough. Roll around and get big with your sticky ball. It's addictive!
