I have the PC version with all the expansions and I have no idea why anyone would want to pay...for a console version which is usually worse than the PC version and which is more expensive...

Pros: Awesome box art
Graphics might be better than PC version

Cons: More Expensive than PC version
Harder Controls than PC version
Won't come out with any expansions (unlike PC version)

Bottom Line: I give the PC version 5 stars so just get the PC version!

Big Disapointment

I am a huge Sims fanatic, and have bought all of the expansion packs for PC. I was extremely disapointed with the outcome of this game. Controls are horrible, with lack of fluency and an innate sense. The only reason I bought the game was to play "Get a Life Mode". I have to say this is the only redeeming quality of the game. Though thats hard to day, because it takes so long to get anything done due to the fact that unlike in The Sims for PC, you can only make time move twice as fast, rather than 3 times. This makes getting through one lousy day a challenge on it's own. Grafics are porly done, and it is imposible to get a good angle on the entire house, like in the PC version. For hard core Sims fans, I recomend you rent the game, only so that you can believe what a horrible job was done in transfering this game to Gamecube. If you don't own any sims games yet and are thinking about buying this, DON'T. Look at amazon.com's extensive collection of The Sims and it's expansion packs for the PC and buy those so you can really get an idea how the game is supposed to be, incredible.

Not my cup of tea.

This is not a review that is going to compare this "GAMECUBE" version with the "PC" one. This is about "The Sims". Let's face it, it's not for everyone. I realize that there is a huge audience for this type of game. And I tried and tried to be apart of that audience. I just can't get into it. Why do you have to control an icon instead of the actual character(s)? The game even with the "icon control" would be better if you could get close ups with the camera. Why click on a radio or t.v.? You should be able to walk right up to it using your anolog control stick and simply pressing the "A" button. I can only assume that with the massive amount of memory it takes to create a game of this magnatude is in fact the reasons for the complaints I have about the inability to control your character(s) in the way I mentioned above, or have better camera options. I didn't like the option to remove the walls. This option was created due to the bad camera angles. It's like lets have a button that makes the walls disappear so that the player will be able to see their character(s) at all times. I'm not digging that at all. I also think that the "blur" is tacky when your character(s) de-robes. With all that being said and a few unmentioned problems..Two stars for "The Sims".

This isn't all that great

First of all the graphics are real good and the items you can get are pretty cool. Yet still the game has problems. The gameplay is very difficult to get used to. It's VERY, VERY frustrating cause when you want your person to answer the phone or go to the bathroom all they do is stand there wetting their pants and making a fuss. If you throw a party the guests never do anything but talk so parties aren't as great as they seem. It sometimes makes me want to pull my hair out. The 2 player is the only thing realy fun about the game. Overall, I say dont buy it. Sometimes, I feel like I wasted $50 on a bad game. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ down the drain.

Should have been much better

Dont spend your money on this game. I bought it because it looked fun. It is a bad game. The gameplay itself seems to be the biggest flaw. The 'get a life' mode is boring because my sim refuses to look for a job. Why cant my sim talk to the people outside like the mailman? Maybe I dont get the game.

Cant get far

Well I do have to admit it is fun at first in Get A Life (single player story mode). But on the 3rd level it suddenly jumps to a horrendous pain in the back (can't say what I want to say here). You are somehow supposed to level your character's job level, throw a party (may I add it must be a good party), make a friend at the party and ask to move in with them, and keep watch on your stats. The stats are the biggest problem because your character needs you to tell him/her what to do and when to do it, so basically they will wet themselves if you dont tell them to take a bathroom brake. But also your stats screw with improving your job because he won't practice/workout/etc. if something is too low in his stats. Also it is very difficult to throw a good party whe you need to work, and keep watchin your stats (this word's startin to bug me). I hope this helps you make the right decision, but if you go your own way and beat level 3, tell me how lol.

After 4 years it's still the best!

I have went out annd bought every Sims on console, from The Sims 1 to The Sims 2: Pets, and guess which one was never beat? The Sims 1, of course. Why did EA just decide to do everything their own way?

The Graphics are actually pretty good but I have seen better. They still have that over-head bird's eye view, not exactly a first person's perspective of view. Nevertheless, it is still good enough. You still can see a lot of jaggies that were left over from the Ps2 version. The objects aren't that bright.

There seriously was a lack of objects in this game. Only 4 doors and 5 windows. And close to 50 miscallenous objects. Really should have put more work into the objects and build mode objects. Oh well, who can blame them? They had to do a lot of work making a completely new game.

The Skins are actually nice. Way more skins than in the PC version. And some that I would love to see in the PC version. They were a lot more creative with the skins in this game than they were in the PC version. That makes sense, since we can't just download skins off the internet. The Wii might be able to do that! Sorry, I just had to say that.

For kids there was a pathetic amount of objects and skins for them. I guess it's because nobody really cares about them since they really don't do much in the game. They seriously should have given the kids way more interactions, but it is fun seeing them play tag and run all over the place... really cute. There aren't many interactions for kids. The kids are extremely limited in this game. They just stand around the place crying over some people who didn't talk to them.

The careers... ehhhhhhhhhh... not really great since there are ONLY three jobs which was a disappointment. What about climbing career tree? That was a challenge a lot of people liked in the game. It was hard enough getting promotions since sims seem to find a way to make us really angry by just finding something really small that we could easily walk over and stomping there and shouting some gibberish. The only careers are, The Entertainment Path- Be a Waitress at the beginning, The Daredevil Path, be a Bungee Jump Instructor at the start, The Military Path- Be a Recruit at the beginning.

And for some reason, I just don't like the capitalized letters for the name. I know that's silly but when there's this menu saying "Your funds are high, LEELA's moods are not, why don't you get some objects for LEELA to get her happy?" it just doesn't match. I know it's silly and extremely insignificant but for some reason it bothers me. But oh well, at least there are names!

Great game, but too early.

The Sims is a great game, but since it just came out, there's barely and cheats you can use. Even though it's too early it's a great game to play if you know what your doing.;-)

a very "okay game"

i was excited when i got this game but it was so hard to control and when you have to type in your sims name its impossible to do it. at the begening its boring because your stuck in your house trying to make your sim happy and you have to fix a stupid tv! boooring. you cant tALK TO anybody that comes and untill you finish your goals and make your sim completley happy your stuck! its not all bad tough! you can talk to your mom and borrow money or talk to her or copliment her. and you can order pizza and learn responsibilty about cleaning your house and at first you get a pet fish! but in the begening you HAVE to get in the hot tub with your boyfriend and you do take your clothes of but its covered and its digusting when you or your mom pees on the floor and you have to clean it. its not a clean game and should be for kids over 13. but i will try to finish my tasks and you should rent it too! i write a review after i beat the first part so be sure to check everyday. who knows it might be good!

It's Time To Be God On Your GameCube

I was a big fan of the game for the PC. I bought the original one and some expansion packs, until I stopped playing in the PC and decided to play only on my GCN. When I heard one of my favorite PC games was going to arrive to the GameCube, I just went and bought it myself. So how was it? Just check it out:
- Graphics: The graphics are OK, but they're really far from getting it all that the GameCube can offer to its players, graphically speaking. The major problem in here is that you can get as close as you wanted to with the C-Stick. So you can't really see sims' faces with detail, because the camera is kind of far from the sims.
- Sound: The only songs avaliable in this game are almost the same from the original, which are very enjoyable classical tunes. The sounds from the electronic furniture can get you pissed off easily. The voice acting, even though understandable, is highly enjoyable, you can really feel what the sims are feeling, just by the way their voices sound. The dialogue sounds are almost the same from the PC version.
- Fun: The Sims is highly entertaining, eveybody knows it, since it's one of the top-seller videogames in the world. Almost everybody likes to be God, almost everybody loves The Sims. The game follows the same formula from the PC version, but it's not that good. Mainly because of the controls which are really complicated, even though you can get them after a little while. But it's still bad to have such complicated controls.
- Educative: The game is rated T for Teen but you can get for your kids without worry. I don't know why they call two sims making noises in a bed "Mature Sexual Themes". I mean, the game is totally clean, you can get the game for your kids without worry.
Overall, if you were a fan of the original PC game, buy it without worrying yourselves, it's a great game.
