Simply Amazing Software for any Flight Fan

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 4 / 10

This flight simulator is so amazing that it can hardly be called a 'game' - many real airline pilots use this software to help them train. And the graphics!!

I still remember when I first came across Flight Simulator, many years ago. My uncle, a pilot, let us watch him use it. He said that us kids weren't allowed to play it because this was a "real, serious program" and not just a game. We were amazed by the controls, the stick-line graphics and the fact that it really was like you were flying.

Fast forward to the 2004 version. You can fly in just about any location you want - from Alaska to Hawaii to small east coast islands! Plug in your nearby airport and take off in any sort of weather, on any kind of plane you can imagine. Sure enough, the richly detailed landscapes below you will be very familiar! There are trees and shrubs, rolling ocean waves that crash onto the beach. I took off from a small airport near my house and sure enough, the small hotel by the airport was clearly visible from the sky!

Not only do they have current planes, but they also include a wide variety of historical planes as well. Learn just how much of an effort it was for the Wright brothers and Lindbergh to make their achievements! There are many built in scenarios for you to play with, from reproducing those historic flights to doing scheduled trips around Hawaii and other gorgeous locations. Sure, doing the flying is fun, but enjoying the scenery is half the delight!

If you're new to flying, don't worry at all. There are now built in video training programs with real flight professors. You also get step by step tutorials in every aspect of flying a plane. And since all of the instruments and concepts are 100% the way they are in a real life plane, you might be inspired to continue on with real pilot's training once you are comfortable with this system. Many pilot students use Flight Simulator regularly to help them remember concepts and techniques!

Highly, highly recommended for ANYONE who has ever dreamed about flying a plane. The software is simply amazing in so many ways, and such an achievement compared to the early days of flight sims, not so very long ago.

This is great for getting the feel of flying some of the aircraft that made history and has a good mix of modern aircraft. It covers from the Wright Brothers right up to the Jumbos of the present day with a good mix of the periods to select aircraft models to simulate.

Product is okay...Microsoft is the problem

This is a nice product. Trying to get an answer to a simple question from Microsoft is another matter. I am a government employee and I am constantly hearing how government employees are inefficient and government bureaucracy is so terrible. Try calling Microsoft and getting an answer to the most simple of questions. Good luck. You'll have a much better experience calling the State Department and asking about your passport. When I installed this product there was an automatic link for product registration. It didn't work. I have searched the internet, and placed numerous phone calls and sent emails. I get the same runaround from every response. It's like they're trained to pass you off to someone else. They always give me the same phone number. The person at that number gives me another number. That number has nothing to do with registering this product. The problem with this kind of company is that they are so big, they have lost sight of what made them so big in the first place, their customers. They don't give a diddly squat about their customers. They're so big, they figure if you're unhappy, so what, the next guy will buy their product, we don't care. In the future I will certainly do a thorough check of other company's products before I even look at Microsoft. Oh, how I hate them!!!!!

Many Problems

Flight Simulator 2004 has too many bugs on its roll out. I would suggest waiting a while before you purchase FS2004 especially if you own FS2002. The software development team used the same old tired panels that have been used since FS2000 and before. The work seemed to go into the new aircraft ie, Wright Flyer etc. If you have FS2002 and have updated panels from the base set of aircraft you will be very disappointed to go back to the Jurasic era panels. Microsoft really needs to pay attention to what is out there as 3rd party addon's for instance Paul Goldings panels and aircraft.

General advice wait 3 to 4 months before buying by than Microsoft should have solutions to most of the problems once enought people beta tested it for them.

Great Job by Microsoft

I logged a lot of time on MSFS2002, and looking back probably bought too many add on aircraft. With MSFS2004 many of them will not currently work. But the good news is, I don't care. I feel this game is such a major improvement with scenery, ATC and weather I'll gladly give up some of my prior "investments". Most of the new historical aircraft are sensational and fun to fly. Try taking off the in the Spirit of St. Louis and you will get a real appreciation of what Lindberg accomplished. My favorites at the moment are the Tri-motor and Wiley Post's Lockheed Vega.. A week into this new product, I have only one complaint. They needed to do some upgrading on the carryover aircraft from 2002 to bring them up to the same standards of the new aircraft. The cockpits of the GA aircraft like the 172 look cartoonish compared to the the added historical aircraft. I have to give MS pretty high marks on this one.

It's the best sim of aviation there is

well i really like this game because:

The ATC has better IFR flights with full procedure flights not like in 2002 which the ATC just gives you partial instructions

Installation is Louzy

The installation was terrible. The instructions on the screan and in the hand out were terrible. Microsoft should be ashamed to put something like that out. It is a real mess.

It looks like it will be a good sim but the installation was dam near impossible.

I was flying a precision approach to Latrobe (KLBE) and to my surprise there was no airport. All the nav-aids worked fine, but there were no structural facilities. Apparently game was shipped with a corrupted BGL File. Uninstalled and reinstalled with no good results.
