An Excellent Video Game: Better than PC Predecessor

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 17 / 19

I have just completed the game Ghost Recon for the PS2. This game was an excellent game on PC and I wanted to see if the Conversion to Console did the game justice. It Delivers the program in style and then some. full of special features as if it were a DVD video the game also features the Desert Siege Mission Pack, a multiplayer mode, and tons of extra levels etc.
In fact, the only complaint that I have is that the Character animations tend to get a tad static when in a heavy firefight. the game also features a streamlined control system, very much improved sound, and for the first time I have seen in a Tom Clancy game, High Quality FMV sequences that replace the PC's Decent but not great movies sequences.

Just a Great game:
great graphics, sound, music, realism, and fun. Definately a game to buy this Christmas for the PS2. For a comparison, I believe it is better than Medal of Honor: Frontline, which was an amazing game. Ghost Recon has sharp, smooth graphics, powerful music, and excellent story line and replay value. (Plus the co-op multiplayer is a blast.) The AI is one of the best I've seen. My only complaint would be the lack of network adapter compatability. But, on the whole, this great is one of the best I've played and is as close to a realistic war game as it gets. I give it a perfect score.

Ghost recon: Greatest Army game ive ever played.

I recently played the demo for ghost recon on pc. I thought that it was a great game. It is the best army game i have ever played, and one of the best shooters. The graphics are really sweet but the movment isnt that great. The enemys move poorly but that is my only complaint with this game. Its great. What you do basicly is construct an A team and a B team and control one of the teams to compleat the objectives. So you have 6 lives because you can switch people everytime you die. The game itself it hard at first but when you get the hang of it its great. If you are looking for a great war game choose this. In my opinion and in all of my freinds opinions, this game is better then Medal Of Honor: Frontline. As an owner of Frontline i am not saying it is a bad game but i think that Ghost Recon is much much better. This game is a must have for the holidays.

If you like Clancy, you'll love this game

I originally didn't get this game because I thought I would be dissapointed and it wouldn't be up to the standards of his books, I was absolutely wrong!
There are very diverse missions ranging from Russia and Russian ultranationalists trying to recreate the Soviet Union to an invasion by Ethiopia into a small country on its border. You're not just stuck in one environment. That was a very plesant surprise for me as I thought the game was finished after my brother and I beat the Russian level, only to be pleased with 8 more missions in a different location. Between the environments, there are a total of 23 missions, an oustanding amount that'll give you hours of fun gameplay.
There are also a variety of tasks you have to accomplish in the game in various missions, from capturing a warlord to destroying parts of a downed secret American spy plane, to rescuing NATO soldiers held hostage, to escorting UN relief supply trucks.
The only drawback I think the game has now, and I only noticed it because I've played this game after I've played newer games such as SOCOM II, is that the graphics aren't as good as a game like SOCOM. However, with the gameplay as fun as it is, it wasn't a big distraction.
The controls are easy if you've played a game like SOCOM or SOCOM II as well as some other RPG/FPS games which use the R1 button to shoot. Unfortunately, the game manual is rather a waste so you end up having to learn by trial and error how to change between your secondary and primary weapons (square button). Another difference I noticed with this game as oppposed to other games, a difference I like a lot, is that if the character you're playing in the game dies, you simply respawn as another character in your A or B fire teams, and you can also choose which character you'd like to be in a particular situation depending on if you need a sniper rife, or need to blow up something with a rocket launcher or C4 charge.
Overall, this is an extremely well done and fun game.

Ghost Recon and Desert Siege

This really contains two games listed in the title of this review. Forget what anyone says about this game. It's awsome even without online play. Once you command Bravo squad to go to a certain area and follow them, getting pinned down by machine gun fire from Russian terrorists, you'll realize how tactical it is. You have to check your map and take a secure position on high ground or a concealed area for sniping. Unfortunately the levels that require you to go inside are quit clunky, but the outside levels ranging from the Red Square to desert battlefields are quit superb. The first level is even difficult if you don't realise that as soon as you come over the hill you're getting mowed down be enemy gunfire. It's a game about planning tactical strategy. It's not as stealthy as Socom, but it's definetely more open ended as in completing levels. There's hardly a set path for most of them. It's a really fun game to play through again also. And there are plenty of unlockables.

A must have title for any "true" war gamer.

I could go on and on telling you about this game but instead I'll cut to the chase, breaking this game down into little pieces.

Concept - Lead five fellow Ghosts into battle using stealth and all out firepower, depending on the situation. The story is set in the near future where you will retreive documents, rescue prisoners, take hostages, and the like. The overall goal is to accomplish these tasks swiftly, silently, and invisibly, hence the name Ghost Recon.

Controls - The controls are tight and work very well, I disagree with the people saying the controls take a long time to get use to. They are great and the PS2 version makes a target zoom avilable. Never at one point did I get frustrated or confused by the controls.

Graphic - Too many people complain about this part of the game. I actually think the graphics are really good. Do take in mind that this game originated on the PC so the graphics transition to the PS2 was actually done very nicely. The graphics don't focus on "fancy" they focus on "realism" which I think many will agree is the better to strive for. I know they are not the best but the gameplay is so good that I never cared.

Sound - Ok this part is cool. All the guns sound different, as they should, but so do bullets at different distances. A bullet wizzing by your head sounds like, well, a bullet wizzing by your head and guns blazing in the distance sound cool and give you the feeling your being shot at. Now, maybe it sounds like I'm getting excited over nothing but trust me, if you crank this game through a good sound system, it'll rock.

Gameplay - The gameplay is very diverse. No two levels look alike or play alike making no levels a waste of time or give you the feeling that you've played it before. I really wanted to see this game through and couldn't put it down for the longest time. Everything is so unpredictable and original.

Replayability - Man this game is replayable espiecially due to the mini challenges, various multiplayer modes (including co-op) and second campaign you unlock after beating the first which is 15 missions long and can be played on three different difficulties, that change the amount of enemies and their skills.

I love this game and any "true" war gamer should as well. 10/10

Man, this game is COOL!!

I've only played 2 player CO-OP and 1 on 1, but i have to say that this game rocks. I love the realism of the worlds and large selection of real guns. My favorite is the HK M29 OICW (designed to replace the m4 and m16 by 2009). Oh, sorry, went off on one of my gun tangents. Anyway. The game is super realistic. Remember James Bond games? When it would take like 50 shots to kill someone? Here it only takes about 1 or 2 shots to die. Really cool. Large selection of diversitized worlds is a plus. Controls aren't as bad as they say they are. They're similar to SOCOM. X is reload, R1 is fire, L2 and R2 to zoom; the only thing that might get confusing is the analog controls and movement. Those are a little wierd. But no matter. You'll get used to em. I've heard from several friends that the maingame is also pretty cool.

Bottom Line:
This game is worth every cent.

Great Game!

I'd like to begin by saying that I usually do not care for the first-person shooter genre. I got this game as a gift and actually contemplated returning it when I unwrapped. Thank God, I gave it a try.

The game takes place in the year 2008, and Russia is slowly taking over the old Soviet Republics by force. Our game begins in the former Republic of Georgia, where we play a few missions involving rescuing a downed pilot and protecting a United Nations Headquarters. The missions are interesting and challenging. What I love about them most is that you can't win them by just running around the countryside and trying to kill everything in sight. Instead you have to carefully plan the route and strategy the two squads you are commanding will take, and you have to proceed with caution when you move throughout the game. In fact, you'll be better off engaging your enemies from afar, than you are just starting an all out firefight.

Another!

Another wonderful Tom Clancey game. This is a great one. You are fighting Russian ultranationalists who are trying to remake the Soviet Union. Great Game!

Solid Game -- Highly Recommended!!

Ghost Recon is a welcome break from death match, you-must-be-on-speed-to-keep-up type games. Instead of pulling a trigger and running around until you kill someone, this game forces you to develop detailed strategies to accomplish your tasks. The action you do encounter (and there is plenty) is intensified by the fact the stakes are much higher -- a couple of bullets or a well-placed grenade takes you out of the game. This forces you to develop a properly planned and well executed course of action.

The game is squad based. During single player mode, you play one of six soldiers and can switch between them at any time. Your player leads one squad of three, and you set a course of action for the other squad which is controlled by AI. As you complete missions and tasks, you unlock addition items such as new soldiers to choose from. Surviving missions also increases soldier skill.

Ghost Recon has significant replay value. It has 15 levels and 50 different tasks to complete, but because there are so many strategies that can be used to complete a level, they can be played numerous times with the same enjoyment level. Of course, on-line play adds tremendous replay and excitement.

In my opinion, the mark of a good game is how quickly time slips by while you are playing. Time after time I have intended to wrap up in 10 minutes only to find that an hour has passed. This is a fantastic game.

I do have a few complaints. The graphics are generally good, but can be on the choppy side at times. I have also experienced instances where the AI squad didn't do what I had mapped out. But, for the most part, the game is a welcome addition to my game library.
