Mass improvement, but not the overhaul others suggest

While this edition does make significant inroads against what ailed the origional _Millionaire_, it's more evolutionary than revolutionary. I've read other reviews here that talk about massive improvements to the fundamental graphics and playabilty of the game, but I'm not sure what they're talking about. In fact, the interface is almost exactly the same as in the original version--which is to say that the 'Fastest Finger' portion is a pale imitation of what happens on the actual TV show, and the 'Hot Seat' graphics are simply replicated. The latter isn't so bad--the 'Big Dance' makes one sweat bullets just like the TV show--but it's highly disappointing that they didn't try to find a way to better approximate the 'Fastest Finger'. Truth be told, they've made that part of the game appropriate for more people than could reasonably be around a computer keyboard.
What they *have* significantly altered are the questions. They are massively more appropriate for the dollar amount being wagered than in the first edition. And there are many, many more of them. The 'playable life' of this game is therefore much greater than the hour's worth of entertainment you could expect to get out of its predecessor.
If you've not bought a _Millionaire_ game, this is definitely where you should start. If you bought the first one and were disappointed, this one will at least be worth the modest purchase price. Personally, I think Disney Interactive (now Buena Vista Interactive) owes all who purchased the first edition a free copy of this second edition, but that being unlikely, I can definitely recommend that you put your toe back into the Disney ocean.
Suprisingly Good

The sequal to the original captures brilliantly the feel of the hit tv show. The first one was repetitve and sometimes the hardest questions were the 100$ ones, with this game, questions actuall make sense for the amounts and it really helps the actual game. Ive played my beta version several times, and am yet to get the same question, something that happened the 2nd time I played it. The game features new coments by regis like "so, you gonna make it your final answer?" and this time you actually see him instead of just his voice. This game has little requirments so it will work great on anybodys computers. With new questions, new voice-overs and new suspense, you can't go wrong, especially for just 20$. Pick this puppy up as fast as possible, because its gonna be HUGE!
Yes, this is my final answer

I just bought my copy of the 2nd edition, last weekend. It is a whole lot tougher than the 1st (I have even walked away on few games after using up lifelines sometimes too early), and doesn't repeat questions as often as the 1st does. Truthfully I am glad I have both, and even playing by myself I've tried a few fastest finger questions. Between these games and my playing with enhanced tv mode during the telecast, I am convinced I should call the 800 number next week to try out. Whoever tells you multiple choice quizes are easy, tell them to buy these games. They will change their tune as soon they finish their first game, whether they win 0 or 1,000,000. Let's play :-)! Long Live King Regis!
It's worth the money

Millionaire second addition is a good game. I probably would not want to sit around alone playing it but if you have a few people it's fun. I ordered this game for my mother because she lives for Regis and "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?". She isn't really into computer games so I thought she'd like to try it. She absolutly loves the game. It is a very simple game to play. When you start the program it just goes right into the game instead of confusing option pages (confusing for the not so computer literate). The price is right too. I'm sort of surprised that Regis didn't hit me up for $40 or $50 for the game. It would not be worth that price anyway. I have not run into repeat questions on this version, but I have only played it a few times. One thing that I didn't really like was the opening speed round. I thought it could have been a little better. However, I would suggest this game. It's very simple to play even for people who don't know how to use computers. So let's play:
"Who Wants to be a Millionaire?" !
Very entertaining, but slightly flawed

As soon as I viewed the first TV episodes of Millionaire last year, I knew that merchandise including a software production was inevitable. I wondered, though, at the success of the porting to CD-ROM, for the online game at abc.com is mediocre at best.
I decided against the first edition of the Millionaire software, but elected to purchase this second version. I was not disappointed. The variety of questions is just as deep as on the TV show, and even though no currency is distributed (obviously), the player still feels much tension.
This product is not flawless, however. Among the most annoying problems is Regis Philbin's often repetitive and annoying banter. Secondly, while the questions are broad, repeated inquiries seem to degrade the entertainment value of the game. Overall, however, this game is recommended. Especially for those who enjoy and are familiar with the television production, Millionaire proves an entertaining and fun software package.
Realistic CD Rom game of America's favorite show.

I have played both the first and second versions of this game. The 1st version repeated questions almost instantly, causing the CD to be put away after only 5-6 tries. This version does have more questions, but 600? If you are a trivia junkie (as my husband and I are), this will not last very long. I believe they tried to capitalize a bit too quickly on the T.V. show and perhaps should have spent a bit more time developing a CD with more questions. The lifelines are great and as far as interactive computer games go, you won't find one as entertaining.
a vast improvement over the original

They got it right this time. The data base of questions is much broader and I would say more challenging; it is a much better simulation of the show. As before, the graphics and sound quality are very good. The audience is very reliable and calling a friend works 80% of the time - although if the person isn't sure, he or she says so. Regis is usually not quite as sarcastic to unsuccessful players in this version. In this game, you have the option of walking away once you reach $1,000. The speed and flow are about the same as before. It took several attempts to get past $4,000 (I walked away once at that level out of desperation with no lifelines.). The fastest-finger option for several players works better than the original version too. This simulation can now be recommended with enthusiasm.
This game is great!

This game is a lot better than the first one. It has better graphics, and you actually get to see Regis. This one is well worth your money.

Having received copy of the 2nd edition, two days ago. It is a whole lot tougher than the 1st The pluses of this new edition are: #1 questions are not repeated as often as the 1st edition.
#2 It is a game that can be played by the whole family.
One negative comment and not too much of a problem. When a player loses by incorrectly answering a question the game seems to take a long time in restarting as Regis has to explain the size of your check. I'll chalk that negativity up to my desire to play a little faster. This an excellent game and also an excellent tool to increase a childs knowledge of many many different subjects. (Children do not realize they are learning something playing this game.)
Thanks Disney interactive for creating a tool that should be in every home. My kids simply will not leave this great game alone and I as well am addicted to the fun and education provided my this game. Lets play!
The next best thing to being in the hot seat...

I know, because I've been there! The way the game builds up the tension as the questions increase in value is surprisingly effective. The built-in pauses between the time of your response and Regis' response can be maddening--just like on the show. Design-wise, the game has the same elegant player interfaces that Jellyvision used in "You Don't Know Jack," so it's simple and fast to learn. Music and sound effects are taken directly from the show's soundtrack, which adds to the authenticity. A few minor downsides: The questions repeat a bit too soon; the Fastest Finger round could have been better designed; and why couldn't they have used the same type font for the questions as the show? Those are all relatively minor quibbles, though. Whether or not you ever make it to the show, this is a great (and reasonably priced) way to duplicate the "real experience" at home.
