The game looks good, but plays like poop. If you enjoy being frustrated and angry enough to destroy your PS2, then by all means buy this absolutely irritating game now. Oh, and Test Drive stinks, too. In fact, the two games are almost identical, so don't waste your time on either one...

Get used to the loading screens. You'll be seeing alot of them. And this is just part one to many of the technical flaws of this game. Yes, it has some gorgeous graphics, fluid motion, and really fun tracks but. . . (this is the part I wish I didn't have to write, as I just love Atari, and I love the idea behind this experience sooo much). . . the game lacks replay value. Being a game developer myself I must ask "why are there so many loading screens?. . and "why do the levels have to reload themselves every time you unsuccessfully make it to the end of the course?" This is what makes the game so frustrating, and I'm sure this is part of the reason why people are not falling in love with it from the get go. I wish I loved it. . . but I don't. And if you hate loading screens, or extremely limited replay value, you will too. I thought I could pass up the flaws, but nope. That's just not gonna happen. I bought the game, and have decided to take it back the day after playing it. It's bad. . . . but good. . . but confusing as to why it's bad. . . cause you just wanna love it. But the plain truth is, it needed more work. . . and more testing before release.
Stuntman - I Hated this Game

Thank God I rented this game - I hated it so much I am compelled to write this scathing review. Stuntman flat out [stinks] - I hated it.
There are two ways to play this game: 1) The Career Mode (read below) and 2) Stunt Arena. Stunt arena is a stadium that allows you to set up and execute your own stunts. There is no score for doing stunts, no difficulty rating, no applause meter, no levels to climb - just set up your ramps and jump stuff. After about 5 minutes...its got old, then boring, then annoying.
Career Mode is ridiculous. The cars handle horrifically, the brake button is the "0" on PS2, which is the opposite of every other driving game in history. Most frustrating is that there is no overview of each stunt, which indicates what you need to do before you even attempt it. Therefore, you blindly go through these routines hoping that you do the right thing.
There are no levels or stages in these stunts, so guess wrong, or make the slightest error - and you start over. Try seeing the same damn scene about 45 times in a row - its like ground hog day.
Most embarrasing for Atari are the graphics and the inconsistencies of the "props". You drive by a fence and suddenly the fence stops you. Drive by a car..and suddenly the bumper gets 15 feet long and trips you up (not making this up - bug filled game).
Do yourself a favor and don't buy, rent, play this....just watch the commericials which totally overrtate the game itself.
The Most Frustrating Game Invented...EVER!!!!!!

Hi there.
Let me start off by saying I love movies-they are my passion. Everything about them. My collection holds over 200 VHS and 40 plus DVD's. I also love Playstation 2 Video Games. To have these two things combined into one made me EXTREMLEY excited when I heard about the release of Stuntman. The commercial's on TV made me even more excited-it looked like a great game. The premise of being a stuntman on several movies is a great idea for a game.
So on Tuesday morning, I walked over to the local Blockbuster Video and rented a copy without even looking at the other games. As soon as I got home, I started playing. I was VERY impressed at the beginning. It was very, very fun to drive around London [each film you work on is located in a different city around the world, the first being London] smashing into things, doing chases and barrel rolling the car.
Then the problems started.
The game focuses way too much on detail-if you do one single thing wrong, it screws you up and you have to start from the beginning each time. If you hit the wall just a little bit, you go spinning WAY out of control, and you never have a chance to get back into it-there is very little time, usually 15-25 seconds to do a number of stunts. And each time you fail, you are taken back to the loading screen for some reason-so if you had an idea of why you failed, and have a possible solution, by the time you are back behind the wheel you will have forgotten because of the constant loading.
So I fianlly completed the first film Tuesday night, after many hours of playing, and many hours of frustration.
Then the second movie started, in the country land of USA. Now, I started this movie on Tuesday night and on Thursday morning I am still on the first scene of it [each movie is divided into 3 or 4 scenes, each with 9 or 10 stunts.] This scene has 19 freaking stunts-its impossible!!! One of them has you going off of a jump and through a train-sounds cool, but if you aren't doing everything perfect, then you miss the gap and have to start over RIGHT AT THE BEGINNING!! I was lucky several times to make it through the train, but each time I did, I would come to the part when two huge chimmneys fall down-you have to drive right under them, right before they fall down. This is not possible though. There is probably a 3-4 second gap between them, and they both fall down at the same time. I was lucky enough once to make it under the first, only to be crushed by the second, putting me right back to the beginning. I don't know how it is possible to get past this scene-I have lots of respect for those who can do it. This game almost had me throwning the contoller through the wall. I'm sure there are many people out there who have done this in frustration.
If the developer's could have done one thing to make it a bit easier, it would have been to let us practice each scene first, with no time limit, to get a feel for the area. In most cases, I even got lost, putting me back to the beginning again.
Please don't rent this game, let alone buy it for petes sake!! Stay away, it will give you ulcers or a heart attack.
Thanks for reading, I hope this convinces a few people not to play this [game]

When I first got ps2 I thought Stuntman was the number 1 game to buy, and it is. The graphics are very realistic, and how the people act on the set is realistic too. Although, sometimes it's kind of hard comprehending what to do in stunts. After you do about 4 or 5 stunts,in the begining, it gives you a little fun stunt to do(jumping off a ramp filled with explosives in a desperate attempt to hit the top car of a pile of cars.) The one downside is the loading time is tremendous for little clips of what's gonna happen.Another good thing about this game is you get to build your own stunt park.Howver, you need to win levels to get the really good equiptment. You also get some really good cars to choose from, after you've won some levels.
+PROS
Good graphics
Good scenes
Great cars to choose from
Stunt park creator
Fun stunts
-CONS
Long loading times
Overall, I thought this game deserved 4 stars.

I rented this game hoping to have a good time and be surprised by some of the features that this game should have. I was seriously upset.
First the Good:
It's orginal (even though the plot is pretty lame and unorginal)
you won't beat it in 3 hours.
The commerical is nice.
You rented before you bought
Now the Bad(in depth):
The graphics are borderline PSone. That was a pretty big let down- so don't let the "cool" cover (or commercial)fool you. Next you aren't prepared for anything you are going to do, it's all trial by error...hmmm realistic? Do you think actual stuntmen (or stuntwomen) just run into stunts without knowing what... they will be doing? Most likely not. So of course you will fail many, many, MANY times (over some of the simplest things). And everytime you fail, you have to wait for another load time.
Now "why would you fail so much?" you may ask. Well it's an easy answer Billy, the fact that the physics and vehicles are anything but realistic.
Let me give you an example.
How many amored cars (that shoot tank shells and are heavily armored) have you seen that can't make it over a simple curb? Or Come to a dead stop due do a rock a fraction of it's size?
How many cars or any vehicles (such as tanks, monster trucks, motor cycles) have you seen that bounce and twirl like a rubber ball? It certainly is easy to flip a hundred times on this game, and nine times outta ten you won't land back on your wheels (not that you will be able to make up for lost time anyways).
Next this game doesn't have near as many options or features as it should, the ones it does have are very limiting and boring to say the least. Such as the "Construnction" feature...let me tell you, once you've played with this for 20 mins- you'll be bored with it. End of story
Some gamers like to sound mature and all knowing by saying "This game is a challenge! Not meant for kids!" In some aspects they are right, but really..who wants to rent poke'mon games all the time? This game is frustrating, simple as that. If you have a short temper, keep the breakables away. Rent it if you like- but Driver for the PSone is much much better.

The name Stuntman is really awe-inspiring ey?, but is the game really worth it? Well yes, and well, no! In Stuntman, as the title describes, you aqquire the role of a Stuntman. Your aim is not to save the world from evil, nor is it to perform evil, nor is it to fight off the living dead, rather it is to cause as much destruction as possible(Similar to stunts performed in Hollywood Movies). Now the Bad and the Ugly:
. The missions are tedious and sometimes irritaing.
. The worst aspect of the game is the Time. Abide by it, you get
to the next stunt, if you fool around, you start all over
again!!
. The load up screens are a killer. Thye show up at almost every
instant and thats not it, theyre darn long!
. Start off with only one car. There are something like 10 more,
all of which you have to unlock!
Now the good:
. The graphics are great. Beautiful lighting and chrome effects
push the PS2 graphics to a new level!
. Similar to Destruction Derby. Skid marks and Damage makes this
game one step closer to reality.
. Stunt constructor allows you to create your own Stunt Arenas
with loads of toys to choose from(Have to be unlocked first!)
.

First of all, why does everyone hate this game? I just rented it and it is one of my favorite games. I'm going to buy it when the rent is up. Anyways, does everyone think it sucks because it's very challenging. Thats a pathetic excuse. Thats great about this game is it can't just be bought overnight. Sure the scene stunts do get a little aggravating when you got to do them a couple of times. But it's all great in the end when you get to see the replay. Honestly, would the game be great if it was easy?
I see great potential in this game. As I've played through half the game already, I only have seen one flaw, the fact that in some stunts it doesn't explain the way to go(directions) that well. There's been a couple of times where I do a couple 360's just trying to find the next objective. But other than that this game is a very good game. I can't wait for the sequel. This game is only for the hardcore gamer wishing for a challenge and not your everyday pre-teen fast and furious wannabe. If you're unsure about the game rent it. Like I did.
MAJOR Disappointment

I saw the commercials for this game and the game looked awesome. Until I bought it. I played it over and over again trying to just get past my first stunt. Some stunts are easy but if you go 1MPH too fast or 1MPH too slow or cut a corner too widely or not wide enough the blood vessels begin to burst from the frustration. Believe me, the only cool part about this game is the commercials.
Big Dissapointment

Ok...it's not hard to find the gist of this game. The stunts are cool, yes, but it's unreasonably hard. I end up playing each level 15 or more times before I can beat them. If you ask me it ruins some of the things that should be fun like crushing cars in a monster truck rally. You are timed, so it makes it even harder, and I assure you that if you don't have a lot of patience, you'll end up burning the CD. I give it 2 stars because the stunts are nice, and so are the explosions, and I don't' know why people complain about the loading times, they're not bad at all. They really could have done a lot more with this game.
