I bought this game when it first came out, just because it sounded quite interesting, though I'd never heard about it before. The storyline is excellent, Ragnar Tornquist is a credit to all game writers. There were maybe one or two puzzles which were tricky, but they were logical if you thought about it. The dialogue was a little extensive, but if you're quicker at reading than the actors are ;), don't be scared to right click every time you've finished reading the subtitles.
I would warn that if you're easily offended, don't play it. The game does have swear-words, but that's not, as has been commented on, the adolescent mind of Mr. Tornquist, it's just an expression of personality. The game has a rating, if you aren't prepared to accept that, just don't play the game. It's your choice. There has been a great deal of complaints about homosexual characters in the game. I don't understand this, as you never see anything offending between them, you just understand that they are homosexual.
But again, if you're offended by this, don't play the game.
All in all, this is an excellent choice for a different kind of adventure game with a truly amazing story.
Great Initiation to Adventure Gaming

The Longest Journey was my first adult adventure game. Prior to that, I had played the Nancy Drew mystery games which are mostly for kids but still fun. The Longest Journey has a lot of adult language, but if you can overlook that, it's a great game.
The storyline of this game is very well written and there are some great characters that you get to know, not just "cardboard" characters or stock characters, but some that have humorous personalities. The creativity of the game developers is to be commended. There were some classic rip-offs of Star Wars (the mole people looked a little like Ewoks and the cops like stormtroopers and the bad guy in the end reminded me of Darth Vadar, not in looks but in character) and other movies, but all in all, the developers get an "A" for originality.
On the negative side, there is a lot of dialog that sometimes gets in the way of the game. It's like the developers went on a little too much with the details of the story to the point it was boring, but only a few times. Also, about three times I had sound problems and tried to save during the sound problems and the game froze. My advice is don't save until the sound problems go away. As far as difficulty, it was fairly easy to figure out the puzzles, but a few times I went to the Universal Hint System website and got some help.
The graphics are very well done in this game and I think teens would be able to get into it if the language is not a problem. I would highly recommend this adventure game.

I love good story adventures and this one was ok, but to just throw in FU every few minutes didn't appear very mature. The movement thru the plot usually just meant you had to have the character move back and forth to listen to different characters until you got them to say something, that when you returned to the first character would allow for the prompt so you could ask them what you wanted to the first time. Characters that you talk to die later and there is a gal talking about her lesbian lover, so I guess that qualifies under mature, but none of that is necessary to the plot and appears obvious that it was just thrown in to allow for those that wouldn't buy the magic of two worlds without thinking it was a kiddy game unless they could label it "mature".
I found the story line novel and don't regret buying it, but I could have done without the "mature" added parts.
A great adventure game.

This was a great game. You went on a "treasure" hunt of sorts to get to the finish. The ending of the game was great. There are lots of videos through out the game. I enjoyed the scenery and the character. The game does not really let you get stuck or move ahead without getting the stuff you need to go on. There was one time that I thought I did and went back to a saved game and went forward. I found out after that I did not need to do that. The game is a little bit wordy but you can skip through a lot of the conversation. She also walks VERY slow at times. I just finished this game and am having game withdrawals just like you would after a great book. Other games I liked: Lighthouse, syberia 1 and 2, gabriel knight series, just to name a few.
One of the best adventure games that I have played.

It has been a long time since an adventure came of this caliber has been released. The Longest Journey contains one of the best settings that I could have ever been immersed in. The puzzles in the game were also put together rather well. They were challenging yet not obscure or difficult. My only complaint about the game is that it was so good, I have yet to play one that can compare.
TERRIBLE!!!

First of all, I got really impressed with the ratings and reviews this game got. But when I play it, I always double check to make sure its the same game!.
First of all, I live in Kuwait where pirated copies are only a few bucks and you find them everywhere. But I respect the time and effort put into the game, so I ordered it from outside. Original are hard to get in Kuwait. I received a box with plain two CDs without a proper pack or even a manual. Its like when you receive a free CD with a magazine. Thats really a shame for a start.
Second, I started playing the game and not so impressed with the graphics resolution and neither the animation. But thats OK I said, its kinda old game perhaps. The mysterious story may be the good thing about it. The cursor itself, environment movement, and overall playing experience is one of the worst I have faced in adventure games.
Third, the unlimited bugs who are seeming to be more difficult to beat than the game it self. I am only in the second chapter and this is the second time I am forced to repeat from an old save. The first save for some reason is not loading. The second time I moved on, I got stock somewhere where I can only move my cursor, and can click nowehere else. i.e., I have to close and repeat.
Despite our all hopes, it seems adventure gaming ages are really over. I rarely accept any single hint in an adventure game, but with this one, I already started reading hints just to move on and see where I end up... and then there was the bug that stopped me. I really doubt I will ever continue the game, and even though its only 10$, I regret them.
Best Game EVER!

The Longest Journey was absolutely the best game yet. Besides a terrific story line, that can take two different paths, it was bug free and really fun to play. Like a book you just can't put down, I wanted to take a day or two from work just to play. If you prefer adventure games that don't kill you off every two steps (oh, hoped you saved) kind of games, this is truly the game to play. The puzzles were great, and the graphics fantastic. Can't wait for the Sequel!!
One of the greatest adventure games!

This is definitely one of the best games in existence. It is strongly philosophical of many issues of the world today, as well as the forgotten past. It is also done in a very refreshing style that adventure games have been void of for a few years. The game not only looks great, but it is full of substance as well.
The main character, April, is very interesting and relatable. The characters are very strong and the plot is excellent. This game is full of humour, wit, mystery, excitement and ADVENTURE. It will engage you, and you will not be able to wait for the sequel!

The longest journey is a fantastic game! You play as April Ryan, who lives in the future. She has these bad dreams all the time. April then learns from a man named Cortez that she is a shifter. April refuses to believe him, but then she finally gets used to it, and uses her powers to save the 2 worlds- stark and arcadia.
All in all, this game was a great one. The only thing i have against this game is that there is a TON of people you have to talk too and get info from. I usually found myself scratching my head woundering if i had ever heard of the place they were talking about, but i usually got it straightened out. The game had great graphics and i loved it!

I played/finished this game over a year ago - but I wanted to write a blurb because - it's one of those games that I remember long after, and actually had a lasting effect on me. I really enjoyed the Order/Chaos ideas - and though some of it is silly, it actually has a very solid core & the idea behind it is truly fascinating.
I played it once, then listed it on half.com for sale - but I'd definitely recommend it. I enjoyed it and I think of it from time to time & the premise behind it. Hope you like it too!
