Awesome Japanese RPG - outshines Final Fantasy and Xenosaga

I am a big fan of epic Japanese RPGs like the Final Fantasy series, however, I had never played any of the Star Ocean titles until now. This game surpasses recent Final Fantasies and far surpasses Xenogears. With non-random, true real-time battles, fast screen transitions, skippable cutscenes, and (for a Japanese game) relatively non-linear gameplay, Star Ocean Till the End of Time simply excels. With 4 difficulty modes (one is unlockable and one is hidden), multiple endings that depend on your choices from the very beginning of the game, and a battle trophy subquest that transfers between games, Star Ocean TTEOT also offers more replayability than the average Japanese RPG. This game is highly recommended for RPG fans.
A thoroughly and well developed game

Star Ocean: Till the End of Time (henceforth known as SOTET)is a role-playing game where you command the fate of Fayt (pun intended) Leingod, a college student from earth in the distant future. Galactic confrontations force Fayt to separate from his loved ones, and Fayt must survive as many people attempt to capture him for unknown reasons.
There are many things that are enjoyable in the game:
1) The battle is real-time, and not turn based. If you want a change in pace, this might interest you.
2) The item creation feature in the game allows you to develop weapons, armor, accessories, food, and medicine. Not only can you create weapons and armor, but you can make what you have stronger.
3) The game has many twists and turns, and multiple endings to achieve. Different plays through the game yield changing character dialogues, different playable characters, and thus different battle tactics.
4) The voice acting in the game is good, particularly in the cases of Cliff Fittir and Albel Nox (I'm pretty sure he's Albedo in the Xenosaga games), as well as Nel, all playable characters.
5) The game is long and it has replay value so that you can create a totally different party, set of items, events, and decisions in your second and third quests.
I highly recommend this game to any and all RPG enthusiasts.
Pretty good if you're a patient person...

Since about everyone else explained the story, I'll skip that.
Star Ocean: Till the End of Time is a really good game for people who like RPGs, and can withstand long cutscenes.
The REAL clencher is whether you have enough patience to spend hours leveling up to beat the area boss.
CHARACTERS: You'll find yourself caring about them, and sometimes... not. My personal favorite is either Albel Nox or Fayt Leingod. I know, all you who've already played the game are laughing at me for liking Albel, haha, very funny everyone. Albel's character is all angsty and arrogant... It reminds me of Akito from Fruits Basket... ...*on topic!!*
Many of the sub-characters are interesting, and though many have sad endings, it adds to this thought in your mind. Their stories all add up to the main story theme throughout the game. Ameena's story was the most interesting for me.
STORY: Really engrossing. The story is complex, and makes you want to advance the story to see what happens next
Overall, this game is really entertaining and fun if you're patient enough. The story should have you engrossed, though there are times where you may lose track of it...
Pros:
-Good story
-Likable Characters
-Battle System
-Item Creation System can be fun when you create good stuff and synthesize it to your weapons
Cons:
-Sometimes long cutscenes
-You probably should have a fair amount of patience...
-The game takes a long time to finish... (May also be counted as a pro...)

I Personally love Star Ocean, esp Star Ocean the second story, previous game if you dont know. but to under rate this because of no true two player action? its an RPG these games never have multiplayer, you should know that and its a bad excuse for a attack on the game

The game has excellent graphics (though sometimes they may look a little off...) and the story is also very good. The characters are pretty likable, and depending on which characters you prefer depends on which ones go with you til the end of the game. Depending on your relationship with them can also change the ending. The game has a ton of cut scenes, but I have yet to find one cutscene I didn't like. BUT, the switch from the "easy" level to "normal" is a hard one-I felt like there was a huge difference in the monster's power. Overall though, it's still a great game.
If you beleive those one star reviewers, you suck.

THIS GAME IS SO AWESOME I WISH I HAD A CAMERA. I don't know why I just wrote that down, anyway. This game is truly NOT a Final Fantasy killer, but it's worth playing this game, for beyond the surface of the tutorial level, you unleash a game so powerful, so devastatingly good, it's hard to stop playing. I call it Star Ocean: 'Till the End of Time, you can call it another great Square Enix game, I call it Star Ocean: 'Till the End of Time Director's Cut. That's its real name, you dig? Two disks, this game is awesome. A friend of mine bought this game, and he loved it. It only has 4 chapter, even though is has only 24 hours of gameplay (True RPG players don't think that's much.) I personally beleive this is an instant classic. Dig?
Wowee!

This is a wonderful game and before I go into my pro's and con's I would like to recommend this to all RPG and Square/Enix fans out there!
Good:
1. Nice long game (2 discs)
2. Great musical score
3. Nice story which has a lot of twists
4. A take off from the norm battle system
5. Nice little two player mode
6. Great graphics
7. Battle trophies! Yes, now you can prove to your friends who is the bigger nerd!
Bad:
1. Long game (yes, I know this was under good too, but it can be a bad thing)
2. Two player mode is quite difficult to obtain
3. Giant dungeons with few save points
4. I, for one, cannot stand the quantity per item limit of twenty (20). Yes, I am aware that it was in all of the other Star Oceans as well, but I really just don't like it!
Take these as you may:
1. Puns. Yes. Puns. There are many name puns in SO: TTEOT. Such an example is Dion Landers or Welch Vineyard. Don't let that be a turnoff, this is still a good game in spite of the bad puns.
2. MP deaths. Yes. If you run out of MP you will die. The good thing is that the enemies have a set MP amount as well, so they can be killed with MP damage as well!
Great game! Buy it! Buy it for all of your friends! This game has been an absolute joy to play. I really hope you enjoy it too!

This game has to be the best game I have ever played. The graphics are awesome, the story line is very interesting and all the characters are lovable. This game comes with 2 disks because it is the directors cut version of the game. The game will keep you interested for a long time and now that the price went down make sure to buy it before it gets sold out and hard to find. Thanks
A Great Game

Star Ocean is one of the best rpg games around! when i first heard about it (from a page inside the ffx-2 manual) I thought it would be really cool. It was better than I thought. It is my second favorite game! (it would have been first but kingdom hearts is first and that will never change :D) The graphics are very good in the game. The voice acting is good too. They made it so we could know the characters well, like their perasonalities. Also I LOVED the gameplay. No more making turns battle play, lol. You still run into enemies on the field map but in the battle screen you run around and fight however you want. I reccomend it to anyone!!
