Seeing as the game hasn't been released yet this review is intended for those just looking into the series. You see star Ocean Till the end of time is actually Star Ocean 3. The original Star Ocean was a spinoff to Tales of Phantasia. By the way Tales of Phantasia is going to be rereleased for the Game boy advanced sometime later this year! Both the original star ocean and ToP never were released in the U.S but both can be found fansubbed as roms for the SNES. The 2nd star ocean was the first one realeased in the U.S and contained 86 endings! There's an anime series (unlicensed in the U.S) called Star Oceacn Ex that is based off of Star Ocean 2: a second story. There were tons of customizable options as well as being able to create your own items through skill that you developed by gaining expierence and fighting. Each character had so many techniques such as cooking and alchemy. Simply put the Star Ocean series are separate story lines with not much connection to them except high class cultures getting being forced to live in primitive places with magic and a Tolkein like atmosphere. Science Fiction meets fantasy. A signature of the series includes active real time battle situational fighting. This is a nice break from the turn based typical rpg stuff that we are used to. Star Ocean 3 will be the first 3 dimensional atmosphere and after observing the trailer, looks excellent! CG films are beautiful and the upgrade to 3-d will be a plus. The Star Ocean series are acknowledged for there, breathtaking, beautiful artwork and music that will put you in such a trance you will feel like your on morphine. The 5 star review is based off of my expierance with the 3 previous titles released under their name. I can't wait for this game to be released!
sigh... Setbacks have pushed the U.S release date back to september of 2003
Extremely lacking in the creative department.

I was completely and utterly disappointed by this game. I had high hopes for a game set in the future, thinking that the creators would seize the opportunity to excercise some interesting new twists in an otherwise redundant genre, which they completely passed up. The characters are a joke, there is absolutely no personality to speak of other than the typical "couragous caring youth", "menacing silent anime bad guy", "cocky muscular blonde guy", "confused scared wimpy teenage girl", etc, etc. BORING.
The plot is laughable (at best) and extremely slow moving, it seems to go around in circles as you are constantly returning to the same places which creates a gigantic sense of irony throughout the game. Some of the bosses come out of nowhere and seem to be unrelated to anything, as they just pop up out of a hole or drop from thin air, and the battle begins. The dialogue is uninteresting and drek, as it has all been heard before, and the attempts at comic relief are almost depressing.
Another failure is the the battle system. There is no room for strategy unless you feel like standing in the corner healing your characters as they willingly allow themselves to be crushed to a pulp by the enemies - this was my case at least, and was most prevalent towards the end of the game.I am one dungeon away from beating the game, and I refuse to play anymore.
I may pick it up if I become particularly (desperately) bored within the next 3 days, but in the meantime I will be waiting for my new game to arrive(I just ordered Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga). If you are going to purchase this game, get it here because it is only $20, and paying anything more would be an unwise choice.
Wowee!

This is a wonderful game and before I go into my pro's and con's I would like to recommend this to all RPG and Square/Enix fans out there!
Good:
1. Nice long game (2 discs)
2. Great musical score
3. Nice story which has a lot of twists
4. A take off from the norm battle system
5. Nice little two player mode
6. Great graphics
7. Battle trophies! Yes, now you can prove to your friends who is the bigger nerd!
Bad:
1. Long game (yes, I know this was under good too, but it can be a bad thing)
2. Two player mode is quite difficult to obtain
3. Giant dungeons with few save points
4. I, for one, cannot stand the quantity per item limit of twenty (20). Yes, I am aware that it was in all of the other Star Oceans as well, but I really just don't like it!
Take these as you may:
1. Puns. Yes. Puns. There are many name puns in SO: TTEOT. Such an example is Dion Landers or Welch Vineyard. Don't let that be a turnoff, this is still a good game in spite of the bad puns.
2. MP deaths. Yes. If you run out of MP you will die. The good thing is that the enemies have a set MP amount as well, so they can be killed with MP damage as well!
Great game! Buy it! Buy it for all of your friends! This game has been an absolute joy to play. I really hope you enjoy it too!

For the purposes of pure gaming, I found this game to be ridiculously addictive due to the 380 deg camera-angle availability and great real-time battle system! However, I found the girl characters in this game to be simply irritating. I dunno, maybe it's because I'm a girl that I feel this way, but practically all the lines exchanged between female characters and our hero, Fayt, seemed so cheesy I was about to fall over laughing. No scratch that, the lines in general were pretty bad, I guess the exchanges between males and females were just the worst and made me crave the authentic emotions I had previously witnessed in Final Fantasy games. The stylistic choice for music was also peculiar and made me cringe when I started playing, however, after 10+ hours of gaming, it became the norm. (an aquired taste I guess? haha) Overall, however despite the story's failure at attempting something meaningful (generic storyline whose theme has been explored too many times and more thoroughly in other Japanese works) I still enjoyed it! Compared to the ammount of fun I had with the gameplay, the other aspects were nearly forgotton (not to mention, I don't even like space-related games and have always been most concerned with story quality)! So if it's gameplay that you're looking for, I would definitely recommend Star Ocean (it's been my favorite in that aspect so far!). However, if it's a good storyline and emotionally realistic characters, then I would steer away. Hmmm... although, I might still recommend it due to the amazing experience I had with the gameplay!! haha

The game has excellent graphics (though sometimes they may look a little off...) and the story is also very good. The characters are pretty likable, and depending on which characters you prefer depends on which ones go with you til the end of the game. Depending on your relationship with them can also change the ending. The game has a ton of cut scenes, but I have yet to find one cutscene I didn't like. BUT, the switch from the "easy" level to "normal" is a hard one-I felt like there was a huge difference in the monster's power. Overall though, it's still a great game.

This game has to be the best game I have ever played. The graphics are awesome, the story line is very interesting and all the characters are lovable. This game comes with 2 disks because it is the directors cut version of the game. The game will keep you interested for a long time and now that the price went down make sure to buy it before it gets sold out and hard to find. Thanks

Star Ocean: Till the End of Time is one of the better Action-RPGs I've ever played. The plot can get tedious at times depending on how you prefer to play RPGs in general (lots of training/leveling versus flying through dungeons). I also wish the game had made better use of the futuristic setting available but, instead you spend a great deal of the early and middle game doing what you'd do in most RPGs: swinging swords, casting spells, dungeon-crawling and monster-slaying. I think the best aspect of the game is the combat system. My only complaint about Final Fantasy type games is how monotonous the turn-based combat system can get after 70+ hours of play. Star Ocean offers a refreshing alternative to that by making the combat real-time.

Star Ocean is a great game...no doubt about it. But is it really necessary to to point out the minor faults of Amazon.com for not fully explaining the history behind the company who made the game? I mean really Hunahan, I'm pretty sure that people would rather use their Star Ocean 3 game case as a nut cracker (the Michelle Melton kind) than care about who rolled out the plastic for the case. Two thumbs up for the game...One middle finger up for the review.

This is a great game. I love it. This is a beautiful game, except it is very long. and i got stuck in the middle because i ran away from all the battles now when i have to fight i am weak and i cant win. Not much of a review but this is a great game. And it is a good price, even better it is 2 discs. That means its long.

And bigger than ever! What's to say here? This game infact IS, extremely addictive as put in other reviews. I'm writing this review without even have finished half of the game, and I can already tell you all, that I absolutely love it. The storyline doesn't present itself all at the begining, it takes QUITE awhile (hours on end) to realize the absolute true plot of the game. This is quite a good thing, as most games reveal their major purpose at the very begining and that leaves the player practically KNOWING how it's going to end. But this game...it doesn't reveal the TRUE plot of the game till well over 10 hours into it. I'm not going to give anything away, but I will say you'll be spending 10+ hourse of battling, talking, and anticipating, up to the point of climax in this game where a major event happens, and the ONE TRUE PLOT becomes revealed.
What else to say? This is a MAJOR improvement from Star Ocean 2, and Star Ocean (only released in Japan) before it. The battles, game, subquests, FMVs, minigames, monsters, and characters, are ALL in fulltime 3D, so absolutely NO cartoons here! The game is seemingly 10 times longer than that of Star Ocean 2 before it. And to top it all off, absolutely no more random battles are aparent in Star Ocean: Till The End of Time! All the enemies are on the screen to rather chase you down, or be ran from. What does this mean? You can choose to avoid battles all throughout the game, if you want to. But it wouldn't be adviseable, as leveling up is a NECESSITY to survive at later points in the game.
The PROS are well...I guess I already mentioned them and they've been already mentioned by other reviewers but i'll say it again in list form:
-Awesome plotline
-Full 3D graphics
-New and BETTER battle engine
-No more random battles
-The game is long as [CENSORED]!
-And aparently (once again) it comes with multiple endings
The game's only CON (to me) is that it's just...aggrovating at some points. There are dungeons that are going to stump the living [CENSORED] out of you, and leaving you hanging around in them, for what seems like hours on end. The dungeons are huge, and at times will require you to solve specific riddles within them to advance. Sometimes these riddles are easy, sometimes these riddles are damn right hard. But in the end, the dungeons are the most aggrovating and time consuming part of this game. And some just seem to span on for what seems like, forever. It's even easy to get lost, and go the wrong way, these dungeons are so huge!
Despite that one little annoyance, Star Ocean: Till The End of Time, is a great game, and fans of the original 2 (or just Star Ocean 2, if you've never played the original first) will love it. It's majorly re-defined Star Ocean!
And once again, the game is just effin' huge! So much to do, so much time! I (personally) am like 14 hours into the game, and still ONLY on disc 1. And I highly doubt i'm anywhere near half done with it (but I might be). Yeah, the game is just THAT big. Dare I say it seems like it's bigger than Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas itself!
At any rate, I highly suggest picking up this game. It's good for anyone who's looking to rather 1, play a HUGE RPG game, 2, check out the rest of the Star Ocean series, or 3, a great GREAT way, to get into the series! The game will NOT disappoint, I promise you. But you'll be playing it for a very VERY long time, just to get to disc 2, and that's a PROMISE. But hell, most RPGrs, LOVE long RPG games. So this just may be, right up your alley!
So despite it's one majorly annoying flaw, this game comes off as one of the best RPGs (to me) of 2004!
Get this game, you'll enjoy it for as long as it takes you to complete it (which may be quite literally, "Till The End of Time.")
