Okay at first off when my father bought this game I realized that it gotten so difficult for Valve to create the game. Like when we created an account for Steam all of a sudden on friday the 26th Valve all of a sudden banned 20,000 user accounts from Steam for no reason I mean whats the deal?

I remember back in the day when Half Life came out. It garnered much praise for its unique game play that was both challenging and immersive. The graphics engine was also solid for its time. And then finally its sequel came out promising better and greater things.

And Half Life 2 delivers. Its receipe for success can best be summarized by "don't fix it if it ain't broke." Graphics were completely overhauled, a physics engine was created to add realism (albiet, hyperrealism), and of a course a new plot faced Gordon Freeman. But the essence of the game is very similar to its original. Terrific! Exploration, problem solving, killing enemies, and then saving the day are all there.

I don't think Half Life 2 is as challenging as the first one, although this may be due to the age at which I played the original. Still, this game delivers intense fun, and a whole lot of it.

Just as the Freeman excells in everything he does, so does this game.

I cannot put into words the wonders of this game. It will draw you into the gaming genre like none other. I won't write a lengthy review like others are doing, but I will say this: if you like gaming, want to like gaming, played Half-Life, or, heck, just want to see some amazing feats of technology, buy this game. You won't regret it.

The thinking man's FPS, and the best FPS ever.

First, I agree the install is a pain. But once you get past this HL2 is a fantaorgasmic treat for the senses. There are a lot of place you have to plan your strategery to get through.

If you like FPS, this is the game for you.

great game, some shortfalls

overall this was the best game I have ever played, but it is not without its problems. There is an annoying bug that will cause audio to studder every so often, but it didn't affect my experience. Also some people report having issues with firewalls (particularly at universities - where they have no control over blocked ports) and getting the game to run. Great story, great graphics, great gameplay, great atmosphere, ground breaking in a number of ways, a must have for any serious FPS gamer.

Simply The best game ever!!!!!

this game is exactly the type of game i like, if you liked resident evil and/or duke nukem this is the game for you. Exciting realism with a hint of Ficticial alien holocost. This game has taken place after the first and obyveously, quite a few years later. The world has addapted to the invastion of the alien spacies from Xen and everyone knows who did it. The story line is one of the exciting points with the fact that you don't know too much or what has happened over the years. From Driving High speed Buggys over a vast Costal landscape to walking the suspension of a bridge to hunting your way through a overrun zombie town of Ravenholm(very scary!!). I give the best wishes to all who play this game.

Awesome game. Better than Halo in single player mode

I hate to say it, but after playing Halo2 and about a third into HL2. I have to say HL2 is the better game in terms of storyline, technology and fun factor.

In my opinion, Halo2 was not as well executed as the original and there are areas in the game you noticed that they most likely rushed to get the game out. The original Halo had a 'epic' feel to the storyline. The voice over was clear and the variety of settings keep you engaged throughout. In Halo2, a lot of the magic was simply not there. It feels more like a narrowly focused storyline, and most of the time I could even understand what the characters were saying.

Not true so far with HL2. HL2 is as strong (if not stronger) than the original HL. The character model and animation is the best I've seen so far. They look so real it's frightening. The story from chapter to chapter makes sense and has a organic continuation throughout. It draws me in as I play more and more.

The biggest negative feedback I have is the load time between chapters. On a slower machine, it is rather tedious and especially if you sometimes want to revisit previous chapter to get ammo or stuck. What happen to the original HL quick load feature?

A multi-player version of HL2 will also have helped much. This is where Halo2 will win for sure as it will win more mind share among gamers after they finished the single player mode.

Overall, I can't give HL2 less than a 5 star. It's the best shooter I've played so far.

Excellent Sequel

This is an excellant game. If you liked the first you should definetly get this one. The graphics are superb. Now the only downsides to this game are the following: No multiplayer element involving halflife 2 (It does come with counterstrike 2), Leaves as many questions unanswered as it asks, I was able to finish it in about 14 hours of play, Ending is a little bit of a let down.
