Welcome to Hell...

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 6 / 11

OK...overall the game is very well done. There are some flaws though. First, the game is very short. Second, the game's riddles are fairly simple. It does bring back memories from other games such as SH1 with the Schoolhouse. The storyline could be better. The monsters are pretty tough, but on the scare level they aren't too bad. Probably the most scary part in the game would be when you revisit the hospital(memory from SH2.) I don't think that it really can compete with SH2. There were many more puzzles and they were a bit more challenging, the enemies were a little more scary. It seems that in this you see the same 5 monsters again and again. On the other hand...the main character, Heather's, attitude is like most teenagers. She has that "Yeah, ok, whatever" atitude that most teens do. The bosses aren't that hard but theyre kinda cool looking. Overall its a fun game to play especially with the features you get after beating it. But overall the graphics are very good. It could be longer and a better storyline. We might see more of that in a hopeful Silent Hill 4.

Made me queasy ...

This game made me queasy. Not from the gore and heart-punding fear. Simply this game induced the most severe motion sickness I've ever experienced on the PS2. This game is so dark... that is to say, you can hardly see anything on the screen, that you get headaches from squinting and straining your eyes (even on the highest brightness setting). This darkness is, I guess, supposed to be creepy, but it simply fails for the same reason as the previous installments. Where in the previous episodes the screen was constantly clouded with way too much fog, this game's pitch black surroundings are just frustrating. Combine that with clumsy controls and a constant need to strain your eyes to see and viola! You get another miserable installment of Silent Hill.

As far as the monsters, well, there's a lot of dogs wrapped up in bandages... which makes sense since without any light they're likely to hurt themselves by running into things repeatedly... which is what the main character does BTW. Not very scary... it simply invoked the image of my dog after being spayed.

The supposed real meanie is a giant bloody sock puppet, that moves in a jerky fashion. Not scary.

All in all, the designers in Silent Hill rely on the idea that what the player doesn't see is far scarier than what he does.... it's sort of a Hitchcock device... however, when you do catch a glimpse of anything it's either silly or frustrating.

At best, this game is a rental folks.

I got Silent Hill 2 so that I could prepare for new Resident Evil games, but somewhere along the way it became my favorite horror game surpassing Resident Evil by far. At the time, I had no idea that Resident Evil would end up being a Nintendo franchise. Resident Evil still holds it's own in the terror department, no franchise is as tense as Resident Evil, and no franchise makes you jump as much.

Silent Hill 2 was an experience like no other in gaming, no game had ever involved me so personally and deeply. The ending was just jaw dropping, as it all suddenly made sense and left me totally disturbed and depressed for a while. Silent Hill 3 might end up being the scariest of the franchise. In an interview I read, one of the main developers said that in the past the development crew had often been fustrated because they were forced to hold back on some of their scariest stuff, but that it would be different this time.

Much better

As someone who's actually played all three games, I can say that this one, thankfully, is MUCH better than the second. The first introduced everything perfectly, and still remains the best, but the second, by far, was the worst. Like the second, the characters in this installment, unfortunately, have very little purpose other than to say a few clichŽd lines that further the plot. The plot, however, finally answers many of the questions the first left lingering and thankfully keeps the story fresh. Some other problems with the game include how short it is. While the first time through can take 4 hours, a replay really only requires 2 or so. On the other hand, the monsters are much more interesting than in the second and, unlike the majority from the second, this requires much more fighting or more skill at evading. Overall, I gave SH3 4 stars for a great story line and actually keeping me interested. The first is still the best, but this is a much better sequel than the second. Still creepy and definately a challenge, SH3 is well worth the cash and belongs on every gamer's shelf.

I used to play Resident Evil all the time. Thought it was neat- you could fight zombies and in the later games they found ways to scare you. That being said, I don't miss the series. The sole reason for this is the Silent Hill series. Take the most disturbing creatures you can think of and the ones in this game will probably be ten times as scary. Big bloated things, Really tall creatures without faces and massive arms, things that look like messed up tapeworms with legs and others I would have a hard time describing. But these alone would not be scary by themselves without the wonderful sound. A game that has this kind of sound in it, which adds to the experience quite a bit, should be commended for the lengths it goes to. You walk down an abandoned hallway and perhaps you hear a scaping noise- you go to investigate and nothing is there - so you turn to head back and you hear a loud bloodcurdling scream through the wall and then a thump like a body hitting the floor, and it sounds close like it's just beyond the wall where you can almost get to it. Try not to get unnerved by that. There are more weapons in this version and you can decide what exactly you think is needed in a given situation. This can come in handy- if i've only got a gun with limited ammo and many levels with many monsters I might think that i'm in trouble. Also a very dark and deep storyline tied in to the first game. It's enough to keep you coming back for more time and again. Play it at night and just try not to be freaked out by what you see and what you hear. Also, no zombies in sight- and I didn't mind once.

This game is awesome!

The Silent Hill series has haunted me since the very first time I played it. I rented number two for my (ex)boyfriend. He played it for about five minutes, then refused to touch it again. He wouldn't even sit in the same room with me while I played it. Of course he claimed it didn't scare him, but he shivered every time he walked through the room I was playing in.

Silent Hill 3 has not disappointed me in the least. The graphics are gorgeous! Better then any other games I've seen to date. Super realistic. I know to some people they may seem a little drab, but would something 'pretty' really be appropriate in a game like this?

I've noticed, like many others, that Heather isn't the best of fighters. This has lead to some frustration for some people. However, how much sense would it make for a teenager to have commando training? She's just a young girl for crying out loud! I love the fact that they've gone through so much trouble to make this realistic! I can tell they put an awful lot into this newest installment.

Oh yea, as for them using 'the same locations,' it's Silent Hill people! That's why some of the locations are the same! If they change all of the settings, it won't be Silent Hill any more! It'll be a different town altogether.

If you don't have this game yet, get it. You won't regret it.

Well worth your buck.

This game was terrific from beginning from end. Its got incredible pacing that will grip you and never let go. You don't have to play the first two of the series to understand the plot, but those who have played the original Silent Hill will find this game to be nostalgic. It may be a bit short lengthwise for advanced gamers (about 6 hours), but for everyone else this adventure will take a little more than 10 hours to complete. There is some replay value to it, with multiple endings and things to unlock.

If you want to show off your PS2's graphical capability, THIS IS THE GAME TO DO IT WITH. The visuals in this game are astounding and horrifying. The sound is equally as impressive. Silent hill 3 is definately a top favorite of mine, and that says a lot.

The third trip. On this trip we return to the series roots and wrap up the story of SH 1. After Harry escaped with the child in the first game it appears that he chose to raise this child mush as he had raised Cheryl. He did not have to pretend that this child was Cheryl because in a sense this child IS Cheryl. I enjoyed this game almost as much as the first game. The first still stands as the best in my opinion. In this game we still get the usual pistol and shotgun; however, in place of a hunting rifle we are surprised with a brand new submachine gun. There are only three endings to this game (an all time low for the series) and it is quite a chore getting all but one of them. The combat remains the same. The enemies are not too vicious unless you play on Hard. They still creep me out though. I recommend this game to series fans and newcomers alike. Mayhap this will motivate some to seek the first SH. This is still one of my favorite series of all time. Oh, and you get a free game soundtrack.

Or movie, for that matter; You may need the guide the get all the way through(I did...so sue me), but it's well worth it to see this one to the end. Turn the lights out, the phone ringer off, and the sound way up. This game takes everything I liked about the first 2 and steps it up a notch; Sure, it's a short game but one worth playing; The amusement park level and the church were pure genius...Oh, and the subway level nearly gave me a heart attack. Always a good sign. Plus the graphics still hold up just as good as some supposed 'next gen' titles...A must have for horror fans.

Silent Hill 3 a challenge

Finished first walk thru. This is the first game my character died more than 9 times. I loved the challenge. Plus the xtras at the end. But before I go to the New Extra Game I need a break. This one compared to Silent Hill 2 and 4 was definitly more of a challenge to me.
