THis is one of the best first person shooters availible today. the geo-mod engine is stunning. there is nothing quite as satisfying as blowing away a wall to get to a guard cowering in the corner. the weapons are as powerful as ever. My favorite is either the double pistol or the grenade launcher. there are also a couple of vehicles you can commandeer, such as a submarine, a tank, and (*gasp!*) even a mech! Ah the joy of pure destruction. the submarine levels are quite frustrating because of the atrocious submarine control scheme and the murky water makes it impossible to see five feet in front of your little vehicle. that is my only real complaint with the game.
Graphics- 8/10.
they are kind of rough around the edges, not the finley tuned masterpice that Metal Gear Solid to was, but they suffice.
Gameplay- 10/10
this game is perfect gameplay wise. plus you can set the multiplayer up to one person vs the AI, so it can be a single player deathmatch.
SOund- 9/10
the bullets whizzing by your head sound good, and the anguished screams of men are teriffic. Ballistics are ok, not quite medal of honor quality, but it is sufficient.
Plot-4/10
somthing about supersoldiers. didnt make much sense, nor do i really care. this game is about the gameplay, baby!
Replay value- medium.
so buy this game. i dont care what system you have. buy it.
oh- one more thing. GORE. yes parents, this game contains high levels of gore. you launch a grenade at someone, and he literally blows apart and spatters on the wall. I am 14, and this does not bother me at all. far from it. i find it amusing. i just thought id let you know.
Spiffed Up Graphics, Redone Weapons, Less Emphasis On GeoMod

Plot:
First thing's first. The plot is very different from that of the orignal. The basic idea is that a team of nano mechanically augmented super-soldiers attempt to overthrow the evil dictator Victor Sopot (with the help of the Red-Faction that it). But after that the plot goes on from there. I did not like the plot as much as I did the orignal, there is little emphasis on the actual Red-Faction (but enough so that you know that the game is in the Red-Faction series). But the Story Mode is not this game's strong point.
Graphics:
The graphics have been updated from the orignal with good results. No complaints here.
Sound FX/Music/Voice Overs:
The SFX in this game is, in my humble opinion still very good. With Many of the same sounds you heard from the orignal. No Complaints.
The music is all techno and adds to the background of the game. Listen closely and you may hear music from the orignal. No Complaints.
The voice overs are much like the same in the orignal (just like all of the other sounds). I found that one of the charecters is done by the same person who did Eos from part one. No Complaints.
Multiplayer:
This in my opinion is the game's strong point. There are--as the back of the case said-- over 40 levels but that is in total. Certain levels are only for certain game modes (Bag Tag, Arena, Deathmatch, Keep-the-Bag, Regime) but that does not take away from the quality of multiplayer.
But there were many changes from the multiplayer game. The Geo-Mod is excruciatingly limited. Meaning you can't make trenches, crevices, hidey-holes, fox holes, tunnels, niches, drop-holes, canyons, caves, caverns, stalagtites/mites/columns, traps, craters, nothing. You can only swiss cheese some of the walls here and there. The weapon tactics have changed also (for the worse). In the orignal you could fire aan FRL into the air where it would hang in the air over your enemy for a small amount of time and then drop with a massive explosion. In this edition, you can do this but the timing and the angle of fire must be positioned exactly, at that point you have to compensate for the time it takes for it to drop on the target (approximatly 13 seconds).
"What Should I Buy Then?"
If you want a game that has a lot of replay value in either modes of game modes, then RFI is for you. RFII Will bring some entertainment but it is recommended only as a rental.
My Average For This Game: 78%
Classic? No. Fun? Yes!

Since the advent of the PS1, we have seen games that were truly great, and truly timeless. Red Faction 2 is not one of those games by any stretch of the imagination. This is not necessarily a bad thing - as gamers, we do not always want to have to wait for the bomb disposal expert to finish his 20 minute lecture before getting back to the action, nor do we always want to spend more time equipping our characters for battle than actually fighting.
What Red Faction 2 does is provide pure action, and it does it well. The game is well timed and almost never lets up; the main character is under attack nearly constantly, and the moments when he is not are made extremely tense by this lack of action. The gameplay evokes a visceral, kill-or-be-killed feeling, whether one is slogging through hordes of enemy soldiers on foot or in the battle armor, fighting the ridiculously well-armed bosses, or operating the gun turret on vehicles during the rail-shooter style stages.
Speaking of the enemies... their AI can make a game like this much more exciting or doom it to mediocrity. The enemies' AI in Red Faction 2 is actually quite good; it is very rare for them to simply run towards you when you fire on them. The make use of cover, use explosives to drive you into the open, fire on you from concealed positions, and in general make sure that any fight you enter will not be as simple as circle strafing them as they stand still. The multiplayer mode is effective and offers lots of options, which is good since the single player game isn't as long as it might have been. It is, however, clear that the game was developed for the single player experience.
In short, Red Faction 2 is easy to reccomend if one is in the market for a fast-paced first-person shooter. Its sci-fi storyline is just interesting enough, and stays out of the way. The weaponry is excellent - including the option of holding an individually controllable weapon in each hand - and is a lot of fun to use. The levels are large and well-designed, and the settings are believable. Do you actually *enjoy* the amount of time you spend out of control in a Final Fantasy game? Stay away. Do you enjoy diving in, loading up on weapons and taking on the world? Get on board.
One of the best First Person Shooters.

This will pave a way for future FPS and is one of the best games ever for PS2. You can play Multiplay by yourself and even create bots to be your teamates. If you win with them you can add to their attributes. It is also fun with single player where you can acquire over fifteen weapons most with two ways to attack the person. there is over seven levels broken down into four smaller levels apiece. This is one of the games that you might never get tired of playing with all the forms of multiplayer games.

I have played video games for 15 years, and never have I come across a first person shooter as cool as Red Faction II. Halo fans, put it down and pick up the PS2 controller. This game rocks. Let me tell you why...
First of all, the team based play is genius. The way that your team talks to each other makes you feel like you are a part of the action, and that you have a real part to play in every situation.
Next, the team at Volition made the map with entirely geo mod technology, which means that a whole bunch of stuff blows up. You can find new weapons, bonus missions, and shortcuts with a well placed satchel or grenade. This technology makes the world real and exciting for the player the entire time.
Third, the game varies quite a bit, and every gun has a good point and a purpose in the game. The multiplayer is incredible, with many different styles of play and places to go. The only downside is that only 6 fighters, bots and users, can be in the match at one time. But when a good game of 3 v 3 capture the flag starts, you and your friends may never sleep!
Red Faction II is the best first person shooter, and perhaps one of the best PS2 games on the market today. Buy it now!
Way better than Timesplitters 2 EVER was.

Red Faction II, in my opinion, is one of the best 1st person shooters out there. I knew it would live up to the original, and it did. There's a better mutiplayer, great graphics, REALLY good A.I., and a believable story. Am I the only one who LOVES the city level in the middle of the game? That was the best. Though it is short, it has TONS of replay value, and it's very gory. This is one of the best games of 2002.

The only complaint i can possibly think of for this is game is that i wish it lasted a little longer. The grpahics are great, the environmant is awesome, and best of all are the vehicles. The mech warrior-type suit (i forget what its called) is priceless, being the gunner on the space ship is also awesome. Im not really especially great at video games and this game wasnt hard for me at all. DEFINITELY worth buying. Much better than the first.

The original Red Faction came at a time when the PS2 was without a large library of hits. It also had more hype than a game should legally be entitled to, thanks to the inclusion of the Geo-Mod, a nice piece of code that allowed you to destroy environments as easily as foes. Therefore, most gamers were able to look past its muddy graphics and underdeveloped story to enjoy it for what it was: a solid single player experience with loads of multiplayer replay value. The sequel however, has both the name of the original to live up to, and the hundreds of other games on the PS2 market to compete with. On both fronts, it comes up a little short, but still remains a great game, and worth at least a rental. The graphical prowess of Red Faction 2 is so much higher than that of the original title; that it's hard to believe you're actually playing its sequel. Explosions are much more intense, textures don't look faded and drab, and the character models, while not exactly what I would call "fluid", are certainly leaps and bounds ahead of the almost action-figure type bodies in RF I. It's obvious that the developers have been tweaking their skills with the PS2 a great deal, and the fruits of their labor are great. The gameplay in the single player is mixed bag of great shoot-em-up action and aching variety. Dual weapons that can be fired independently of each other are a nice touch, as is the ability to lob grenades with a separate button, ala Halo. However, the game balance often seems very sloppy: this is evident in the fact that you'll pick up a health kit just as often as ammo, if not more so. You'll also find yourself using explosive weapons such as rockets, launched grenades, etc. more often than dual uzis. This is because while enemies can seemingly take a clip or two of standard bullets before they fall, it only takes one well placed, or even relatively close placed explosive projectile to put them out of their misery. Add in the fact that they, on the other hand, can tear you to shreds within seconds if given a chance, and the choice becomes clear. It's hard to knock RF2 too low for this quirk, as it seems more like a design choice than a flaw, and what's more, it's one that works: you're given something like 50 explosive shells at the start of every level, and you'll find a large supply of them as you blow more fools into chunks of blood. You rarely have to use bullets if you don't want to, and it's almost as if bullet-based weapons were viewed more as an obligation than a mechanic originally designed to be included. This isn't a bad thing, as I had lots of fun always being the man with the rocket launcher in hand, ready to kick [butt]. Some may not enjoy such activities though, preferring "traditional" ballistics, so it's something that should be pointed out. Red Faction 2 is a straightforward shooter, and has more in common with Doom or even Serious Sam than it does with Goldeneye or Perfect Dark. It does, however, sometimes go into the realm of "awful variety", including the all too familiar shoot-stuff from-a-helicopter level that is much less fun than an activity of that nature should be. The only time the variety ever comes close to approaching "fun" status is when you take control of the battle armor. Even then, you'll probably want to get back on foot as soon as possible. For some reason, the multiplayer and bot options from the original just aren't as attractive in the sequel. It doesn't quite match up to the original in terms of sheer fun factor, partially thanks to the reduction in the Geo-Mod engine. Much of the fun in the original's multiplayer game came from mutating the environments like a scene from The Matrix. There's very little of that here, and the experience suffers as a result. The multiplayer arenas also seem less painstakingly designed, ranging from just about average all the way down to a sloppy mess of hallways and rocket launchers. If you're buying Red Faction for its multiplayer appeal, don't. Likewise, if you're buying Red Faction for its story, don't. It's even more clichéd and convoluted than that of its predecessor. But unlike the original, you probably won't care in the least about destroying the enemy dictator, nor the "true" enemy that eventually reveals himself about a third through the game. However, for nonstop bullets and explosions, Red Faction delivers once again, if only for a long weekend.

i watched my friend play this game when he bought it, and it looked entertaining so of course I eventually bought it as well. phoenecians you need to get real, not THQ. They did a great job on this game and massively improved over Red Faction 1, so get with the program already. As in the first, there are vehicles that you can drive, including a walking armored transport. The Geo-Mod is still here (what would Red Faction be without it?) so you can still demolish buildings, street lamps, etc. The graphics are much better than those found in the first game. The only thing that can get a bit trying is the control, it's kinda awkward. But it adds to the challenge, and even on easy, Red Faction 2 still packs a punch. If you liked the first game, you'll love this one. Mark my words.
NOT Better Than the First, But Pick It Up For Multiplayer

I've read several reviews stating that this is better than the first Red Faction. I definetly don't think so. The first had a great storyline, alot more immersion, the ability to destroy almost anything you see and it lasted longer than 5 hours! That's right. This game is INSANELY short. I picked it up for the weekend, because I was having to wait for relatives to arrive. I started playing it at 12 p.m. and beat it at nearly 4 p.m.. The story is just stupid and poorly written. The gameplay is actually pretty fun, but it's so friggin' short! They try to link this story together and make it a Government conspiracy thing like Deus Ex (which is a much better game), but it just doesn't work. You can blast some things like the first game, but it has majorly decreased. You used to be able to blow up anything you saw. Now, it's just a few select spots. OK, now on to the bright spots. The graphics are really good I thought. And the reason to buy this game is the multiplayer. It includes all the multiplayer levels from the first Red Faction game, plus many other REALLY cool new levels. My friends and I have played the multiplayer for hours. If you're looking for a good single player experience, look elsewhere. It's good, but not worth the money. If you like multiplayer, this is definetly one to pick up. You and your friends will play this for hours on end. Too bad it's not on XBOX Live...
