I've just finished this game after months of on-again,off-again playing...and WOW. Such a great ending, such a great game. This is the first product I've ever felt compelled for better or worse to review. This game is pure magic.
I think the thing that stands out the most is the artistic mastery. The brush paintings that grace the game (as well as the game itself which is designed to emulate a brush painting) are gorgeous. The animation of the wolf itself is wonderful. All of the weaponry, locations, villians...such fantastic and innovative design. It's a SHAME that Clover studio is no more.
If you're on the edge on this one--buy it. It does take a while to beat, but man what a wonderful ride. It's being ported to the Wii, which is great, but I would love even more to see this thing in full HD glory. I will say that this game has dethroned all previous favorites for me. Best ps2 game, hands down.

This is one of my all-time favorite games. It is superbly done in every way. The story is very fleshed-out and well-written. The graphics are beautiful and unique. Game controls are *very* intuative, easy to learn, and well-coded. I just love this game and cannot get enough of it! I've been trying to finish every possible thing in it just because I don't want it to end! Really, a must-have. I just can't say enough wonderful things and I really can't find any flaws which is very rare in a game! Highly recommended!
Finally, a video game made for a creative mind...

Okami is easily one of the best games I've ever played. The artistic sense behind it really appeals to me, being an artist. At first, I thought the graphics were cheaply made and poor. But actualy, the more I played it, the more it stood out to me from other games. They really tried to make it like an old Japanese story. The graphics are made to resemble traditional Japanese style art. And they did a wonderful job of it! The game play is really fascinating, in the sense that you not only fend off evil monsters, but need to bring things back to life (such as trees, plants, etc) to make a town come back to life. The different stages are wonderful, and though the game can be challenging, it is most deffinatly worth it. :)
I would reccommend this to anyone.
One of my favorite games of all time...

Okami has to be one of the most unique, artistic, beautiful and addicting game. I was skeptical when I first purchased it because I thought it was going to be too artsey for me but, I found myself playing it for hours on end. I logged around 60 hours into this game but, I did almost all of the side quests/bead finding. The storying is only about 25-30 hours long. I think about 10 of my hours were probably spent fishing in the game.. It's just so much fun!! Any RPG fan will love this game!

This is by-far the greatest game for the PS2. When i started playing this game I was a little unused to the graphics and controls but when I got the first brush tech, I was hooked. This game did it for me big time. And I have to say at my age games don't seem as interesting anymore, FFX seemed somewhat dull but this game blew me away. This game is perfection.

This game is almost perfect. Recently there have been a lot of stinky games out, full of cheap tricks and short lived gimmicks. This game has cool tricks and gimmicks that go on and on. :-)
Aside from a bit of lengthy text right at the beginning, and an over anxious side kick, this game has nearly perfect, graphics, sound, puzzles, exploration, fighting engine, and a very innovative little tricks, with plenty of things to do, and side quests, imaginative backdrops, awesome bosses, and some very interesting and funny surprises. I haven't had this much fun playing a game in ages. Please do yourself a favor and pick up this game.
Just make sure you can get past the first half-hour or two of seemingly endless text. It gets much much better (the text is significantly reduced after that initial onslaught). Also, to be fair, although often a bit lengthy (nothing like that opening though, ugh), the text is usually pretty witty and entertaining. The game more than makes up for that small problem.
Awesome Game! Comparable to Zelda!

This game is the Zelda of the PS2. I bought this thinking it was a flop, the company went out of business but little did I know, this is one of the best adventure game I've played on the PS2. The painbrush control is the coolest thing about this game. It was too new for its time. I really enjoyed this game because of the story and the gameplay mechanics. It is very addictive and it keeps you playing for hours just fighting creatures and saving the village. I still haven't beaten this game but have played over 30 hrs so far and I have to say, It can beat Zelda any day, especially since it's on the wii now.
