Graphics aren't the only draw to this beautiful game...

Remember that cell-shading style from Legend of Zelda: Windwaker. Okami dishes out a similar, yet even more unique art style. The art and backgrounds are breathtaking. Once you're done taking in the surroundings, you'll notice that Okami provides gameplay to match. Wrap all that up with a compelling folktale storline and you've got quite an amazing game. This could just be one of the last few games worth buying for the Playstation 2 platform.

Wonderful departure from the rest

Okami is a wonderful game. It's unique in so many ways from what other games have been coming out, yet it melds its gameplay elements together better than many of the rest. Its compelling from beginning to end, but getting to the end is never a rush, because you don't want it to be over yet.

The easiest way to describe the game is that its a fanciful Japaneese fairy tale come to life. It's oozing with so much flavor and creativity in the storytelling. The world is also loaded with secrets. There's seemingly no end to the number of goodies to discover.

At $10 less than most titles, this game is a trememdous value. Please check it out.

Okami is one of the greatest games that I have EVER played, and I've played a lot! To be honest, I have 32 video games. I am a 9 year old GIRL and I think this is GREAT! It's a pefect game for everyone to play.
(I'm her Mom and I think so, too-so much fun to watch her play this one!)
It has all kinds of Gods, Japanese gods, ones you haven't even heard of, ever. Okami is the best. After 77 days, 297 hours, 2 mins. and 54 seconds, I finally finished with only 1 death, 319 enemies defeated, 35 demon fangs found, and 1,846 praises earned.
(Mom again, as you can tell, this game is worth the money)

Okami: Better than its sales, but worse than you think

This game did not sell. Most magazines list it as one of the most underrated games of the PS2. While that may be true, Okami would still not qualify as a "good" game. If it was rated a 1 out of 10, then it is underrated. If it rated a 4 out of ten, it is not underrated.

First, if you were to string all of the cut scenes together, you would be watching about 5 hours worth of cut scenes. They are tortuous, and they happen often. There is no recorded dialog, only text that types out one--letter--at--a--time. And you cannot skip them. The opening scene is a total buzz kill and takes--literally--about 30 minutes. You have to continuously hit X after each sentence. I've played video games since the Atari 2600. I love all of the Zeldas and Final Fantasies. This game is, by far, the worst with it's dialog and cut-scenes. This factor alone, had I known about it, would have kept me from buying this game.

Second, this game is unbelievably easy. There is this little bug character that sits on your head throughout the game. Every time you come upon a puzzle the bug says: "Hey! you should [INSERT ANSWER TO PUZZLE]!" You literally don't have to think about anything for the entire game. I kept thinking that my training period would be over. But nope, you are told what to do for the entire game. This game is for 3 graders who read slow and can't figure anything out.

That being said, the art is neat and the graphics are good.

If I can save even one person from purchasing this game, I have done my job.

Great game!

This is by far the most fun and addictive game I have played for a long time. Fans of invative game play (Psychonauts, Katamari Damacy), or even Zelda fans will have fun with this game. The game is beautiful, the level-up system is fun (feed animals, make plants grow, and help people to gain powerups), and the gameplay system with the brush-strokes is very fun.

Great game, beautiful graphics

This is a great platformer, with beautiful graphics. There is also a unique element in that you have to "draw" magic actions.

The way the character runs works nicely so that you can move short distances acurately, but don't have to wait forever to move from one side of the map to another. You can also double jump to higher platforms, dig for "secret" treasure (as in Wind Waker), apply gained experience to your stats and even spend money to learn "new moves".

The draw element works very well, given the limitations of the PS2 controller and is integrated into the gameplay in almost every aspect (esp. combined with the vector graphics).

The one minor annoyance is the speach, this would be much more bearable if you could easily always speed up the text dialog ... however that is only possible in "non-cut screens". I assume some of the problem here is that japanese to english generates a lot more text, so it probably passed QA in japan but didn't get updated for the port.
However don't let that stop you from playing this very nice addition to the PS2 library.

FUN!! Teen artists point of view

I LOVE this game! The beautiful art style is different than what you might see in a videgame. The story is very interesting and for those that don't like a lot of gore, there isn't too much to worry about.

The in-game characters are very different and are funny at times. The jibberish voices actually work for most of the characters.

I have had my PS2 since the beginning and I have played many games. Adventure, RPG's, FPS and so forth. I was completely amazed by the open-ended play of the GTA series, the great graphics in God of War and the over all story and play of RE4. What could be better? In the twilight of the PS2 and the dawn of the new generation of game consoles surely we have seen the end of the great game experience for our old friend. Well Capcom not only gives us one more gem for the PS2 but for me the most epic and fun experience I have ever had on the PS2. Okami isn't just a game, it is that classic battle between good and evil with plenty of twists and turns along the way. Okami is filled with wonder characters, beautiful colors and art work and interesting game play. It is your favorite movie adventure that not only makes you feel good at the end but leaves you wanting more. The characters themselves are loaded with personality and even though they speak in a mumble tone, each tone is distinctly different for each character. Even the sound track is excellent and really enhances the game play. How often I found myself humming one of the themes in work or in my car. The use of the word "epic" here is indeed true, bacause if you do every side mission and complete the bead scavenger hunt you are looking at close to 50 hours of game play.

The battle system in general is very diverse. Three divine weapon types that can be mixed and matched as a Primary and Sub weapon. Each mixture will give you two distinct attacks. The use of the ink brush to draw your attack or defense on the canvas while in battle or to solve puzzles is just an amazing and unique new tool in game play. There are also other items you can purchase and find that can be used in battle as well. Then finally there is a whole list of moves that can be learned by visiting the local dojo's during game play that can enhance your attacks and defenses.

My interest was peaked after seeing a preview last summer. Seeing the colorful graphics and the new brush techinque I could not wait to play this game. What I did not expect was discovering my favorite game of all time just as the torch gets passed to the next-gen of game consoles. If you want to breathe new life into your PS2 and you are not ready to hand over the money for a new console, give Okami a try before you move on it will be worth the experience.

Beautiful, deep, and frustrating.

This game is a blast, the graphic style is like almost nothing I've ever seen before, but it is by no means perfect. The stop-start style of battles is distracting, and the fake voices make the game almost so annoying to be unplayable. Other than that, its deep, gorgeous, and etheral, I just would have liked the option to turn those damned blurbings off.
