I purchased this game due to the fact that the wife and I played Kingdom Hearts I and thought it was extremely fun. We had been anxiously awaiting the release of Kingdom Hearts II for nearly 2 years, and every time the release date was pushed back we would literally get frustrated.

Well, it finally came out and we got it and have just beat the game in "proud" mode and must say, that it was ridiculously easy. It felt more like an interactive movie where you had to do light tasks to progress it, since a majority of the game is cut scenes. We didn't even worry about beating any of the bosses as they were so easy. Not to mention we were in shock at how fast we were beating the worlds!

One of the most ridiculous levels is Atlantica, as the entire level consists of you having to hit the "X" button, to sing along songs, at the exact right moment. Even the main boss (Ursela) was defeated by hitting the button at the right moment as she was singing a song! There aren't ANY heartless in that entire world!

Another thing that is horrible, was the fact that in the Pride Lands/Lion King world you had to run around has a BABY lion, when you probably near the same age as Simba! You actually, I kid you not, fight with a keyblade in your mouth, and the moves are awkward at best!

Another thing that was ridiculous in the game was during certain bosses you had to complete 'tasks' such as "kill 10 enemies in 10 seconds" which wasn't hard, just aggrevating. So you would go through the entire battle, which is more tedious then anything, as its easy, without even getting hit, and would die because you didn't kill 10 enemies in 10 seconds.

Honestly the game was very boring overall and we only kept playing so that we could beat the game. Unfortunately there is probably only 20 hours of game play. The longest being the several hour tutorial at the beginning which was hard enough to get through, only because it was so boring. Sadly they FORCE you to do the tutorial.

In all, if I knew then what I know now, I would wait until this game came out as a Player's choice and nab it for $19.99 instead of the $49.99+tax we paid for it.

So my advice is to wait or to buy it used.

Simply Magical

I've read a number of reviews for KH2 in magazines and the like, while all are positive, many mention a series of technical limitations the game presents. I know these folk are paid to take a game apart, but Kingdom Hearts is a fantastic game and looking back I can't now nor could I speak of flaws. If I sound like a gushing fanboy, I am.

What I will remember when I look back through the smear of nostalgia will be Sora's new moves, and new look that make him seem less like some junior hero, and more like a guy who could go toe to toe with Cloud or Squall or any of the Final Fantasy greats.

I will remember the story which somewhere between One and Two (Chain of memories, Anyone?) devolped not only a more mature tone, but a mythology all of it's own. It will be confusing to newbies, but once the breadcrumbs lead to some connections it's just pure joy.

I will rememer the graphical touches. Anyone that doesn't get to Timeless River and relish in it's Black & White simplicity that even extends to the charecters themselves, needs to get their inner child checked.

And I will remember the music that ties such a nice bow around the whole package by being perfectly suited to it's enviorment. The opening and the ending are a little too catchy. There's a good chance you'll be humming them while your working, or perhaps doing the laundry.

In closing what else is there to say? It's a game that rarely comes along in this era of imatation. Play the game and start dreaming of Kingdom Hearts III on a next gen system.

The best game you will have ever played!! (Edited)

This is my favorite game ever. Now, adults might refer to it as "childish" but who asked them?? We don't want their opinion! Well, some people might... Anyway, At the beginning of the game, you play as Roxas. A typical, average boy. The weirdest things keep happening to him: he freezes in time! Then he realizes that he can still move around and stuff. But then, usually Organization XIII appears. Obviously, there are 13 people in Organization XIII.

After you finish playing as Roxas, you start playing as Sora, the guy we all know from the original Kingdom Hearts. He and Roxas are the ones who hold the Keyblade. But Roxas only holds PART of Sora. So technically, Sora is the Keywielder.

The worlds you will come across are:
Hallow Bastion (Your second world)
Atlantica (The Little Mermaid);
Port Royal (Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse Of the Black Pearl);
Twilight Town (Your first world);
The Land of Dragons (Mulan);
Beast's Castle (Beauty and the Beast);
Olympus Colliseum (Hercules);
Agrabah (Aladdin);
Disney Castle (Where you will find Queen Minnie);
Timeless River (Steamboat Willie);
The Hundred-Acre Wood (Winnie The Pooh - you go into it as a book -);
Halloween Town (The Nightmare Before Christmas);
Pride Lands (The Lion King);
Space Paranoid (Tron)
and last but not least, The World That Never Was (Where you have the last battles).

Just like Kingdom Hearts 1, Sora goes through his journey with Goofy and Donald. With the Keyblade, he restores light to every world. What I found out is that, the more he uses the keyblade to fight, the more Heartless and Nobodies (your enemies) that keep appearing. They even mentioned it, so pay attention to everything they say!! Organization XIII don't have hearts so they're Heartless too. Yay!!!!!!!!!!! I finished this game in less than 2 weeks and I found out that you do fight Organization XIII people. The shocking thing is that Roxas is part of Organization XIII!!! Also, you find out that there are 2 Twilight Towns. I laughed and I cried in this game. The game is just really sad. Think about it... how would you feel if your best friends were lost and your other best friends (Donald, Goofy) stuck up to you in front of King Mickey? That is sad. One thing I have to say is that I'm a girl. Yes, you must be amazed. I love video games!! I can't believe I beat the people who finished in at least 2 months. Crazy!

The Disney Movies that have been made are in this video game, but not all though. All of the worlds connect to their movie. Except 4 though. The rest are movies. They are tweaked a bit. Like in Beast's Castle, The beast is VERY mean because there was an Organization person making him mad. So there's this 1 part when you have to fight Beast to make him come to his senses.

If you're very curious, like me, then I recommend that you buy it. It's very adventurous. Now go play it!!

Better than the first in some ways.

Like most people, I was hooked on the Disney-meets-Final Fantasy game known as Kingdom Hearts, which recieved such a huge cult following. And I was feverishly waiting for the sequel to come out, which has been considered as one of the most highly-anticipated games of the PS2.

Now that it's here, and after playing through it, let me give my thoughts on the aspects of this game:

Storyline:

The game picks up where the Chain of Memories left off as a mysterious being Roxas (Jesse McCartney)unknowingly has some sort of connection to the Keyblade bearer, Sora, who has been kept in a slumber capsule along with Donald and Goofy for almost a year, now. The first 2-3 hours of the game you'll play as Roxas, leading to flashback scenes of the first game and the COM games, which is good news for the newcomers wanting to play this game. Afterwards, the game picks up to speed as you finally play as Sora, back on his feet to find Riku and King Mickey...and Kairi, as well. At the same time, however, he has to defend the worlds by Heartless and strange creatures known as Nobodies led by a strange black cloaked group called Organization XIII.

Mickey, in particular, plays a larger and more awesome role in this game, given the fact that earlier he wears the same black cloak of the Organization.

After playing the game here, I can well say that the storyline is the game's strongest point overall. It asks the lingering questions that were running through our own minds as we played the first game. And best of all, it's all made so we can never constantly expect what's going to happen next.

Graphics:

A vast improvement over the first; more solid animations, and lesser "cheating" facial animations as well. I was shocked to see the game through my own eyes at how excellent Square Enix has done. The camera's problems, in particular, have been fixed to perfection, thereby, moving the control of the camera from the L2 and R2 buttons to the R3 analog stick, giving you the chance to move it whereever you want it to.

Levels:

There are 15 levels as followed:

Twighlight Town
Hollow Bastion (returning level from the first game)
The Land of Dragons
Beast's Castle
Olympus Coliseum (returning level)
Disney Castle
Timeless River
Atlantica (returning level)
Port Royal
Agrabah (returning level)
Halloween Town (returning level)
Pride Land
100 Acre Wood (returning level)
Space Paranoids
The World That Never Was

A few of the worlds here have returned from the first game, but are entirely redone so that they won't play exactly like the first game. Atlantica was strangely turned into a mini-game world, but Olympus Coliseum and Halloween Town are a vast improvement, because they follow directly from their own movies. 100 Acre Wood's book makes a comeback as you fetch the torn pages for it once again. Hallow Bastion becomes a BraveHeart-esque level and answers most of the questions overall from the first game. In addition, Mulan (The Land of Dragons) and Beauty and the Beast (Beast's Castle) recieve their own worlds, and surprisingly, there's a Steamboat Wille-themed world, Timeless River, which adds very well to how Mickey, Donald, Goofy, and even Sora would look like in the 1930s Disney cartoons. This ties in with the Disney Castle world, which Sora will meet Queen Minnie for the first time.

The biggest dissapointment is the Lion King-themed world, Pride Land, which grows so annoying even after the first few minutes. The best level of this whole game, however, is the Tron-themed level, Space Paranoids. This ties in wholly with the movie itself, and looks downright amazing. The trio, in particular, get to wear the cool, blue-lighted suits you see those people wear in the movie itself.

Music/Voices:

The music is on par with the first game. Some music, in the returning worlds, is still the same (except Antlantica), while the rest recieves some new orchestrations which are absolutely superb. There's plenty more where that came from.

The voices hit more than miss. The roles of Haley Joel Osment, Tony Anselmo, and Bill Farmer as Sora, Donald, and Goofy have returned, as well as the rest of the cast in the returning levels. (I still couldn't believe they didn't get Robin Williams to do the voice of Genie, and have to dig up Homer Simpson.) The Pride Land level has the worst voices overall with almost no depth from the cast in the movie whatsoever; Port Royal doesn't have the same movie cast either, but the guys here sound exactly like the movie's cast. I was really shocked.

The most surprising roll, however comes from Saruman the White himself, Christopher Lee as Diz (aka Ansem the Wise--you'll find out soon enough), the main man of Hollow Bastion. When I first watched his role as Diz, I was blown away at how well he delivered his preformance; I kept asking myself, "How the f*** did they get him to do this?!"

Gameplay/Lifespan

The gameplay, too, hits more than misses. You'll have more combo attacks than the first game, and you'll be able to do "reaction commands" with the triangle button (which seems awful similar to the context-sensitive actions in Conker's Bad Fur Day). The Drive Command is a nice touch, too; You'll mostly need it when you're fighting a boss. In some areas, when Sora bites the dust in some of the bosses, you'll play as Mickey, trying to bring Sora back to life.

The biggest flaw, however, comes from the difficulty presented in this game. What made the first game so difficult was the camera's issues which make it so hard to see where the heck you're going. Now that they're fixed, you can hack and slash anywhere you want to, which makes it a lesser challenge than before.

Luckily, thanks to the addition of an Expert mode, as well as making yourself having to come back to the worlds you've already open paths to for "second quests", this game is almost as long as the first; The first took 30 hours for me to beat and this game took me almost 29 hours. It's safe for me to say, "Close enough."

Overall:

Despite the difficulty flaws, you'll definitely have a fun time with this game. I certainly enjoyed it and I'd say KHII is definitely better than the first, despite a few of the lackluster reviews on some online sites such as IGN.com. With rumors floating around for a third game, I hope this KH franchise will be something gamers everywhere will remember for the rest of their lives.

This game is three times longer than the first one. More boards! More characters! And a revamped fighting system with a much deferent MP meter. The bad thing is that you have to go through two hours of playing as Roxas "a new character." From the end of Kingdom Hearts "Another side another story." After some dreams of other worlds he finds Sora, Goofy, and Donald in there sleeping tubes. Then the story finally takes off.
There are only four summon characters With more than one attack unlike the first game. There's Chicken Little, Genie, Stitch, & Peterpan with Tink. I would have liked more, but...
You can gain different abilities by merging with Donald & Goofy such as welding two keyblades or gliding.
There are new boards as well
*Twilight Town "You start off here"
*Beast's castle
*Land of the Dragons "Mulan"
*Port Royal "Pirates of the Caribian" ROCKS!!
*Timeless River "Steamboat Willie"
*Pride Lands "Lion King" Sora-lioncub, Goofy-turtle, Donald-bird
*Space Paranoids "Tron" The 1983 live action movie
Returning boards include
*Disney's Castle "You can actually go there!"
*Olympus Colosium & Underworld
*Agrabah "Aladin"
*Atlantica "Mini Games mostly"
*Halloween Town "Christmas town"
*100 Acre Wood "More mini games"
*Hollow Bastion "Not like the castle"
For once the second is better than the first! :)

It's Finally Here!

After 4 years of waiting Kingdom Hearts 2 is finally here.(cheer). It is a great sequel and has amazing features.

1.The worlds that Sora and friends venture through are great. My personal favorites are The Land of Dragons(Mulan), Port Royal, Steamboat Willy, and Pride Lands. There are replay worlds like Olympus Colliseum, Agrabah, The Little Mermaid, Hollow Bastion, and Halloween Town.

2. The graphics are amazing! The camera has also been changed and you can rotate it with the right analog stick.

3. The battle system is much better. I like how you do special moves by using the reaction command like in Mulan there is Red Rocket and in Tron, there is Cluster Code.

4. The drive bar is also a great feature to KH2. Sora fuses with Donald or Goofy or both and turns into a different color and weilds two keyblades to deal more damage.

5. The magic is great too. Old spells like fire, blizzard, thunder, and cure are back and new ones like reflect and magnet.

6. This is also magic. The summon spells are great. The new summons are Chicken Little(funny), Stitch, Peter Pan & Tinker Bell, and Genie. CL fires baseballs and firecrackers at the heartless, Stitch plays ukelele and fires his green laser gun, Genie mimics Sora's moves, and PP does this cool attack.

7. The new charaters are awesome. My favorites heroes/heroines are Jack Sparrow, Simba, Mulan, and Roxas. Some new villains and olds are back like Maleficent, Hades, Shan-Yu, and Pete. Pete is a traveling enemy working with Maleficent to destroy Sora. Pete appears randomly so don't be suprised if he's in almost every world. Oogie Boogie is also back.

8. Speaking of Roxas. You play as Roxas through the beginning at Twilight Town. Roxas, played by Jesse McCartney, has dreams about Sora and suddenly gets a keyblade.

9. The new pause menu is fascinating. The abilitites have been changed around, and Jimminy's Journal, which was boring last game, is now upgraded and has a section for each world

10. The gummi ship is upgraded too. In KH1, it was slow and boring, but now you are at a fast-paced action-packed sequence battling ships, nobodies, and bosses literally being thrown at you.

11. The abilities are great. Some new like Explosion, Fantasia, and Slapshot, and some older, like Vortex, Trinity Limit, and Scan are back.

12. The limit ability is awesome. Sora and party members do this cool attack. My favorites are Trinity Limit and Comet.

13. Last but not least, the keyblades are sweet. There are brand new like Monochrome, Bond of Flames, and Follow the Wind and old like Kingdom key, Oathkeeper, Oblivion, and Ultima Weapon are back.

All in all, I think everybody should at least rent this first. Awesome game! I hope there is a KH3, I heard rumors of it with worlds like The Jungle Book, and Hunchbakc of Notre Dame, and now since Disney bought Pixar, we might see Nemo, Dory, Mr. Incredible, Elastigirl, Boo, Mike, Sullley, Woody, Buzz, Flix, and Dot in KH3, 4, and 5.

Well Worth The Wait

It's been quite some time since I played Kingdom Hearts I - a game that, at first, I wasn't sure I was going to like. Of course, once into it, I found the game every bit as addictive as everyone else did. So it was a great deal of impatience that I waited for Kingdom Hearts II to come out. With a short vacation in hand I settled down to play it through, and I want to report right now that this game is not only as good as its predecessor, it is even better. Maybe even a lot better.

The game picks up about a year after the first part. It starts without Sora, Donald, and Goofy. Instead, we spend a week with Roxas (who looks very familiar) and his friends. Gradually Roxas remembers who he really is, and a huge and complex plot begins to unfold as Roxas is replaced by Sora and the old story unfolds again, but with a lot of twists. This time the bearer of the Key Blade must unlock the paths between the worlds - one at a time (and sometimes twice).

On each world there are heartless to defeat, and 'nobodies,' what's left when the heart is taken. These come in shapes both monstrous and human, and even have an 'Organization XIII' dedicated to the success of the darkness. In addition many of the old villains have returned to join with the new in a cast that must number over 100 characters, including a guest appearances of the likes of Yuna and the Gullwings. In fact, Final Fantasy characters make a much bigger showing in this game.

The game is brilliantly done. Plot and subplots, scripting, and animation are simply magnificent. This is a game that was clearly not rushed to market, and the result is that special magic that few games ever achieve. Artwork and music are equally breathtaking. The game manages the balance between violence and more positive messages beautifully. All told a credit to the director and the creative staff.

Of course, with both Square Enix and Disney involved one should expect this. But seeing and playing is believing. After some 60 hours of game play, I'm a believer. Even the fighting is carefully done to avoid monotony. Each opponent offers different challenges in a complex battle system that will take a couple of play throughs before it is fully mastered.

Possibly the best game EVER created!!!

Wow, this game is amazing. There are no words to fully describe it. The sound is awesome. The graphics have improved tremendously from KH1. I am almost at a loss of words.

This game is the greatest game ever. If youve played KH1 and COM, you have only had a taste of the greatness KH2 has in store for you.

Good:
The gameplay is astounding. The graphics are amazing, much better than KH1. The beginning part of the game is especially great, and the overall graphics are the best ive seen in a game. KH2 is also a lot more interactive than in other games. For example, you can just go on a skateboard at times, and other things like that. The sound for the game is excellent as well, though it may get repetive at times.

Bad:
The only thing that i could think of for this game that was negative was that if you have not played KH1 and COM, you will be almost completely lost in the gameplay and in the storyline. Even with playing those games, the game is still confusing, though it just adds to the excitement when figuring out the twists of the game.

Overall:
I fully recommend it for everyone. Kingdom Hearts 2, in my opinion, is the best game ever created.

Simply the best PS2 has to offer

Let me just say first of all...for a game most people have been waiting over 4 years for: You'll be glad you did!

Plot: Yes, i'll admit the plot can be difficult to follow. BUT NOT TO WORRY it all ties in at the end. You begin playing as Roxas which to many people's dismay was tiring...to some extent i agree. At first i wasn't so sure about this game, until i got to play Sora.

Music: Theme song is much better this time around and a very well put together movie at the beggining. The music keeps you going in a sence. It sets the moods for the worlds and makes game-play, in a positive way, a complete snap.

Bosses: On standard some bosses are challenging...but who doesn't like a good challenge? You get more backround on the villians that in the first one and it is quite intresting to find that some bosses are just misunderstood *teehee*

Dialouge: BRAVO! The original cast is back with more mature voices and more dialouge. Its amazing to see how much the characters have grow over the year since the first just through their voices. I loved listening to them converse.

Worlds: Stunning. To say the least. The worlds this time around are much more playable and MUCH more fun. There is a lighter mood in the air and it makes the worlds feel so real. Just makes me want to fly back again and again *which you do in the game*

Gumming Ships: SO much fun this time...just BLAST BLAST BLAST away. No more struggling for hours on end to make a gummi ship. Just press on a blue-print and go.

Battle System: Yes. The battle system is relatively the same this time around except for the new action buttons and the new drive commands *WHICH ARE SWEET* Fighting is acually enjoyable this time around, much less button pulverising.

Graphics: The best PS2 has to offer. Everything about this game is just beautiful to look at. The Keyblades. The dialouge scenes.

This game is a must
I <3

Kingdom Hearts 2 sticks with it's formula and expands on it.
Pros:
-Smooth polished graphics
-Excellent voice acting(Everyone from the preivous one, and all voice actors from Disney and Final Fantasy are still doing their roles. Altho it would have been nice to hear Jeff Bridges who was in Tron, and Johnny Depp who was in Pirates of the Carrabien)
-Great Music(And just like the last game, Utada Hikaru starts the game with a remixed song, and ends the game with the original. Sanctuary is a great song)
-Free flowing meyham action(Along with diffrent forms(Which you can wield 2 keyblades in), and limits(Which you and another ally unleash a devistating combo), this game is definitly a hack-and slash achivment)
-Excellent story(Go through a great story, while revisiting good ol memories that Disney and Square have to offer)
-Lot's of stuff to do(Side quests and completing worlds)
-Great memorable characters(Not just the good ol' reminese of Disney and Square characters, but the originals this game had of it's own)
-Man if Mickey Mouse was this kick-@$$ in the disney world, Pete would crap himself in fear.
-Pretty nice ending
-People who love Square, Disney, and Kingdom Hearts, will be treated with a larger amalgam of what they all love
-This game surpases it's predicessor in a variety of ways
Cons:
-Everyone kept telling me the game was gonna be over 100 hours(They blew more smoke than a chimney, cause the main game was 37 hours, and all the other stuff was 63 hours, so yea)
-It's sad when you can see the whole FF7 advent children cast and fight Sephiroth, and yet, not only does the movie come out in America 1 month after this, but they don't have Barret, Vincint, or Red(They could have at least had Vincint)
-I hate using the right analog stick to use the camera(I like the L&R buttons, because I could revolve the camera and still put the beat down on my opponents)
-If you never played the first one, there's no point playing this one if you're looking for a story
-The game on standered is pretty easy(Not that it's a problem, but's it's kinda hard to find something bad in this game

Kingdom Hearts 2 is a Terminator 2 style sequal, keeping the original feel, yet adding more to make it achieve at a higher level than it's predicessor. It's got new moves, features, enemies and worlds which combine, and make a great game. Anyone who loves Disney, square and Kingdom hearts should definitly own this. If you don't, you should be whacked over the head.

peace
