WOOOOOW

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 23 / 27

It's about time. A fun Harry Potter Game. What you have heard is true. This is an action Harry Potter game. I love it. It will keep the attention of anyone who has not been a fan in the past. This is because this is an action game where as the other potter games have been a hunt for and talk to collect-a-thon. Is there talking this time? Yes, but only while you are fihghting. In fact, you do not have to read anything if you do not want to. Excellent audio samples and voice acting. The game is fast, fun and creative. You will casts numerous spells. A big complaint has been that you don't pick your spells, you just always press the same button and perform whatever spell fits the situation. BUt I like it. It would slow down the action if you had to go through some menu, and it would limit the spells if they were limited to the number of buttons.
Bottom line: Great action game. If you remotely like the series, you will finaly love the game.

A Fun, Challenging, Well-Integrated & Goal-Oriented Game

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 14 / 18

I have played each of the video games based upon the first four Harry Potter films & books. By far, the most challenging and best integrated of these games is "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire". The previous game of "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" introduced the ability for a player to play as any of the three main characters from Harry Potter: either as Harry, Ron or Hermione; which a player could actively switch between during game play (often, this was required within specific levels). This latest Harry Potter game also allows a player to play as one of the three main characters, but unlike the previous game, a player cannot actively switch between characters until the completion of a particular task.

As with previous Harry Potter games, spells must be obtained in order to get through certain levels or an important item, such as a Triwizard shield, may need to be collected. In fact, much of game play involves the collection of Triwizard shields that are hidden within most of the game's levels in order to unlock access to higher levels. Typically, there are multiple Triwizard shields on each level, which means that a player must revisit levels multiple times in order to collect a sufficient number of them. Also hidden within these levels are special items, such as vanishing cards, dragon statues, shovels or some other item that a player should either collect or reveal as sub-quests. Except for vanishing cards (for which there is only one per level), a player must identity all of a particular items on a particular level in order to gain a card that represents those items. And here's an important note on collecting/purchasing cards: unlike previous Harry Potter games where card collecting was merely a secondary activity that had no real impact on the players or game outcome itself, cards won or purchased throughout this game can load a player's character (that he/she has chosen before entering a level) with increased stamina, skill or magical strength from three selected cards. In fact, it is up to the player to load all three characters with a particular set of cards for the skills that the player wants each character to have because even though a player cannot switch between characters during game play, which ever character the player chooses is usually accompanied by the other two. One very interesting aspect of this game is that not all items on a particular level may be accessible until the player obtains something that is only attainable at a higher level that makes it possible to collect the needed item on the lower level. Most collectors' cards are only made available for purchase upon how well the player demonstrates certain abilities or achieves certain goals.

During game play, the player will encounter a number of nasty creatures, such as dugbogs, salamanders and vampyr mosps, which can be very annoying. Available jinx spells include (but are not limited to) orbis, inflatus and avifors. Charm spells include herbivicus, carpe retractum and accio to name a few. As stated, not all of these spells are available until obtained and sometimes require obtaining its spell book. Game levels include the Quidditch World Cup at the beginning, then proceed at Hogwarts with Defense Against the Dark Arts, the Hogwarts Exterior, Moody's Challenges, the Forbidden Forrest, the Prefects Bathroom, Herbology, the three Triwizard Challenges and Voldemort.

Overall, "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" video game is very fun and I rate it with 5 out of 5 stars. It is by far the best Harry Potter video game to date.

Too much like Lord of the Rings

I agree with the other reviewers...why no roaming? I liked being able to start and end the day instead of just go thru different levels. Roaming around was one of the best parts of the game, sneaking past the prefects and flying aimlessly around on your broom. Overall a disappointment. The game is fun, but not like the others at all. Why the sudden switch?

Ripp Off - complete and utter ripp off!!!!

Do not take any notice of the people who say this game is good, as it is a total ripp off and i can honsetly say the game has completely changed to the last 3 games with no exploration around hogwarts, it feels like you are skimming the pages of the book and not that feeling off being in the game, it has taken me one day to complete this game and the ending took 3 minutes to conquer so i have sold my game as it is not worth having in my collection, i feel EA rushed this game and i cannot believe they changed it as this is not at all like the 3 previous games, total ripp off EA!!!! i just hope my voting on EA.COM has made a difference and gets EA to remake the goblet of fire!!!!!!!! a very dissapointed customer.

P.S Also if anyone wants a true review of this game try gamespot.com or .co.uk and read the reviews you'll understand what i mean if you have not bought this game already.

The most awful game-sequel ever

I agree with the second reviewer - if you liked the other Harry Potter games, this latest one is sure to disappoint. However, unlike another reviewer, I won't be so callous as to completely spoil a book's surprise ending.

One of the more disappointing features of this new game is the inability to see more than a few feet in front of you. That is, whereas in the other game you had control of the camera with the joystick you didn't use to run (by the way, Harry cannot duck or jump in this game either); in other games you used the joystick to look up, down and all around the town! When Harry ran through the game, you saw where he was going because the view was from behind. Here, the view is aerial and you have no idea what's ahead.

The card system is indeed confusing and the booklet doesn't explain much. I miss roaming around the entire school, entering into the classrooms, running through Diagon Alley and looking for secret items. You can't go roaming anymore, you must follow an prearranged order. The Bertie Botts Beans you uncover for points now fly away from you, and you must chase them down if you want points. If I had the chance to offer an opinion to the game designers, I would say "do over".

Well...

I'm 14 years old, and a huge Harry Potter fan, and of course, I had to get this. I have read all the books, seen all the movies, and beaten all the video games (even this one). It could have been better, but I do wish they would go back to making these video games like the first and second ones, because you can roam around the school, earn House Points, and talk to friendly (and not so friendly)students around the school.

Not trying to be Ms. Negativity, I'm going to start out with the negative things first.

-No roaming around the school
I was happy that the first three were like that, except in the third one you can't go certain places at certain times. But in the other one you pretty much and roam at free will

-Hard
Looking for the TriWizard shields gets sooooo tiring. At one point, I spend half an hour trying to get to a shield, when I needed a spell that I didn't have to get it. I was so mad.

-Cards are expensive
You have to "purchase" cards that help you with stamina, magic points, and to give your self advantages with the beastly creatures. That's just wrong. Plus a perfectly good waste of jelly beans. ;)

Good things

+ You can play as any of the trio
Since it's called "Harry Potter," I played as Harry

+ It's fun to beat up those dogbogs, because it's just funny how they act. I mean, not that I like being mean to animals, it's just a video game

+ You could actually participate in the TriWizard challenges, but you had to be Harry (duh).

+ Fighting Voldemort. It's much easier than it was in the first one. You really don't even have to concentrate.

+ Two-Player. I played with my brother and he had a blast. Of course, he lost all of his lives.

+ Graphics. Way, way WAY better than the third one.

I say, you should buy the game.

Happy playings!!

My 10-year old son received this for his birthday (after wishing and hoping for it for every day for two months). He loves it and says it is the best Harry Potter PlayStation 2 game ever. A winner!

Well, i rented this game a few days ago, to test it before buying it. This game WILL only last 3 days if you sit down and do it all in one sitting. But, for the people who just like to play here and there and have the smarts for this game, mostly strategy if i must say so. The only thing that i dont like about this game is 1: the camera angles are terrible 2: It doesnt follow the story line, Other than that i loved it. I just got past the prefects bath level. I would of liked more characters but, im fine with the way it works.

The harry potter game of all time!!

I do not have this game yet, but I played this game at my friend's house and we had a heck of a time! This game is multi player and the graphics and enviroments have improved! But on different websites people said the camera was bad. But, when I played this game at my friend's house the camera was sort of all right. But there is no roaming around, I did not mind. All I cared about was how fun the game was.

Great Christmas Purchase

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is a really fun game that lets players of all ages test their skills of using their spells against a variety of different creatures and monsters. Even though that there isn't any more free roaming (which I still miss) this game is still great. There are a lot of new add-ons such as quests trying to find Shovels, Dark Detectors, taps etc. and a quest to try and find the vanishing card on each level (a card which vanishes after a certain amount of time) You can play as any of three main characters (Harry, Hermione, or Ron) and you must progress through 11 different levels. Some of the levels are task levels (1st Task-The Dragon, 2nd Task-The Lake, 3rd Task-The Maze) or tasks where you must beat a certain person or thing (Voldemort) There are also tasks where you must find things like shields, mini shields, vanishing cards etc. (Hogwarts Exterior, Forbidden Forest, Prefects' Bathroom, and Herbology) and there are a number of mini games (5 to be exact) in the level titled Moody's Challenges. Also their is a Dark Arts level and the learning level at the Quidditch World Cup. Even thought you try to find all these things and try to beat every level, your real challenge is to try and find all of the shields.= and mini shields. If you can find 10 mini shields you will find a shield. Also shields are randomly scattered all throughout the collecting levels which you need to do something to get them like use herbivicus to create a pathway to it or some thing like that.
I think that all the spells in this game are great because they make the game more fun. Even though it is challenging, it is still fun to make sure you have done the right spell and to try and master it. It is a blast to try and get everything.
Since the price is a little over what it is worth, I would suggest renting this game. It is great if you have a week off from school (as I do now! :) :):) ) so you can have something to do without being bored out of your mind. It is great and you won't want to put the controller down. I would DEFINATLEY suggest renting this game!
