Jameson Thottam - Game review for Harry Potter
Jameson L Thottam ...Quick Summary
The ad-line for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire forewarns, "Difficult times lie ahead, Harry." That's an unfortunate choice of words to promote a third sequel that clocks in at a bloated two-and-a-half hours.
Jameson Luke Thottam: The Director's Take
For his part, director Mike Newell (best known for Four Weddings and a Funeral) does his best to pare down the 734-page novel. The Quidditch championship that opens the movie, and which took up an endless portion of the book, is reduced to a few minutes of introductory exposition. And happily, Harry's rival Draco Malfoy has little more than a cameo, and Harry's tiresome aunt and uncle don't show up at all--there's an improvement right there.
Jameson Luke Thottam and The Bad Parts
Unfortunately, it's not enough. The thrust of the story is that the Hogwarts School is holding a Tri-Wizard Championship. The contest is supposed to have only three finalists, and no one under 17 years of age is allowed to enter. But darned if underaged Harry doesn't get entered into the contest. How on Earth did that happen? (Hint: Look whose name is in the movie's title.)
Jameson Thottam and The Challenge
If the movie got on with the contest's challenges, it might not be so bad. But since the main characters have reached puberty, it provides the movie with an excuse to show them in the same old, tiresome golly-gee mode in which we've seen every love-smitten teenager since Andy Hardy. And the Harry-as-reluctant-hero bit turns Harry's friend Ron (Rupert Grint), who was a bit of a nerd to start with, into this movie's most petulant and irritating character.
Jameson L Thottam *The Positives
Still, the movie has some fun passages, up until its final half-hour--which involves the finalists' last challenge, is far too graphic and morbid for younger moviegoers, and seems to go on forever. Whose genius idea was it to depict a literally magical world as drearily as possible?
Jameson Thottam: Specific Highlights
The few light-hearted moments come from James and Oliver Phelps as Fred and George, Ron's prankster brothers; and a full-bodied comic performance from Brendan Glesson as the school's latest dark-arts professor.
Jameson Thottam: Not for hard-core Potter Viewers
But any viewer who's not a hard-core Potter buff is liable to leave this movie feeling the way Harry does when evil Lord Voldemort tap-dances on his skull. And we still have three more of these entries to endure!
Jameson Thottam: The Final Cut
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is rated PG-13 for minor adult language, intense action and violence, and one death (though not of a major character, so don't hassle me for spilling the beans).

A Disappointment

Don't get me wrong. My wife loves this game. This is the first game on the PS2 I can get her to play.
But the graphics are just plain terrible. It's difficult to see your character and distinguish him/her from the background. They frequently get lost on the screen clutter. Due mostly to the clunkiness of the character, the controls are difficult. But the good (or bad) news is that because the game is so easy, you can pretty much play the whole thing through in one sitting.
Unless you're a die-hard fan and must have it, I wouldn't recommend this game.
Wow, so much better than COS!

I really enjoy the new game playing type. I always like to unlock levels, lodge cauldrons into walls to demolish them, and to be able to play as any character you want. (Out of Harry, Hermione, and Ron) I also enjoy that the loading takes like 5 seconds, not 5 minutes like the CoS game did. The game is also very addictive, and I've been playing it nearly nonstop since yesterday. The only downfall of this game is that its pretty easy, as I'm already at the third task after only 12 hours of playing. Overall I'd say this game is pretty cool for anyone who likes to destroy things. (like me) For anyone else, you should probably rent it to see if you enjoy the new gameplay style.
This game is good

I own all the Harry Potter books and all the games so far. In all the games of harry potter so far you could explore the castle but in this one u cant. You just get put straight into 1 level. Also in the other harry potter games, while ur playin u can switch between harry ron and hermione but in this 1 wen u do a level just before it u hav 2 choose which 1 2 be and u cant change from then 4 the rest of the level. Also in this game u cant use spells wenever u want 2 like the previous games. U can only use spells wen it is needed and not wen u want 2. But still this game is really good and fun 2 play. U can do all 3 of the triwizard tasks and in the last level u can have the final showdown with Voldemort. I think EA should look back at this game and mend the problems wid it. Then hopefully the 5th harry potter game will be the best 1 ever!!!

This game is a waist of money. It is very short with no resale value. The movie is just a bad. I have lost faith in Harry Potter because of the idiots who designed this game and the movie!!
If this had no stars, that's what I'd give it

This is easily the stupidest Harry Potter movie, and game. Don't bother wasting your money (unless you already have; sucks for you) on this piece of crap. Complete junk. Boring, same stupid spells, no upgrades... The only difference in this game is the characters look older. Like, 16-7 year olds. Like they do in the movie. They should seriously keep actors that look younger. Not some hairy legged, big-chested gorillas that act like they're two year olds that keep throwing themselves onto one another due to raging hormones. Real big disappointment. Mike Cenzz, out.
FUN, FUN and MORE FUN!!!!!!!!

I just received the UK Version for my birthday. Nothing like the previous HP games. Instead of improving the "adventure" game, they have taken the "adventure" out of it, along with the enjoyment! An enjoyable adventure game, has become yet another continuous "fighting" game. My hands were sore after playing for 20 minutes. In a world filled with way too many fighting, thug, and war games, these days good adventure games are hard to come by. There are many unenjoyable aspect to this games, but it would be too lengthy to go into them all. There is one thing I feel I must mention. With previous HP games, we had a choice of how we set our controllers, but with this new game, up is down, and down is up, and we could find no way to access or change the control format to correct this. Making play quite difficult at best. Of course, as with most fighting games, if the level is not completed, the entire level must be repeated again and again. Unless you can somehow manage to learn to function the controls in reverse. My husband & I are both very disappointed that one of our favourite adventure games, has been changed so drastically. We hope our review will inspire the programmers to do better. We enjoy our HP games, and so looked forward to this new games with great anticipation, only to find that the new game paled in comparison to the previous HP games. This is one purchase we will be sad to returned. There is no point in keeping a game we will never enjoy.
