if you may have stumbled onto this game and are deciding whether to choose vice city or san andreas, this one is your best bet! the game has not too little features (GTA3) and not TOO much (San Andreas). also vice city has less violence (in san andreas you may see people chopped into pieces), less mild swearing (the Sh word is the farthest they go). in san andreas a few things were taken out from the original vice city, such as robbing stores and malls. vice city is also more fair, since there are no money cheats and the full armor and health cheats are separate and not all weapons have auto aim. the game is simple but packed with features, including the story missions and side missions (taxi driver, pizza delivery man, etc.). the graphics are stunning (you can see the sun in the horizon, with rays of suunlight shining on you, beautiful). a good deal too, this game is a must-have!

I loved this game. It was well made and insanely broad in what you could do with it. If you aren't phased by fantasy violence then you'll probably think the game is a lot of fun too. But I will never let my children come within 10 feet of this game and you probably shouldnt either. Here's why.
A fitting retitle of this game would be "Scarface: the Game" because that's what a great deal of this game is modeled after, an extremely violent movie about being a drug lord. The game takes place in a realistic coastal city. There are restaurants, beaches, hospitals, hotels, police depts, grocery stores, bars, gas stations. In fact the game was modeled after the locations and sights found in the movie Scarface.
The city is populated with pedestrians, golfers, shoppers, people waiting to get on buses/in cabs, hookers, gang members, strippers, drug dealers, policemen, emergency medical technicians, bums, store cashiers, etc.
You can kill any one of these people.
You can solicit a prostitute, and then run over her with your car as she gets out and leaves, then take the money back that you paid her. You can watch a strip show then shoot the stripper. You can hack a pedestrian up with a chainsaw. Throw a cab driver out of his cab then run him over with it. You can perform drive-by shootings. You can start a gang war. You can walk up to a car, aim a rifle at an innocent driver and shoot them directly in the head and watch them fall out of the driver's seat. You can drive around inside a shopping center and run over the shoppers. You can distribute flyers for adult films that you're producing. You can even start a massacre shooting then as the EMT's come to help people, blow them up with a rocket launcher, or simply beat them to death with a baseball bat. You can become such a threat to the city that the National guard may appear with tanks, helicopters, and infantry. Yes you can kill them too. You don't have to do all this stuff. In fact almost none of it is necessary in completing the main point of the game. You simply have the freedom to do it if you desire to.
Or you could simply go through the basic missions of the game that involve an ex-con's rise to power as a leader of a powerful mafia-type drug cartel a la, you guessed it, Scarface.
Your kid will probably love it. All in all, for what it is, it's extremely well made. Of course if you are worried that violence etc found in video games could negatively affect your child, then you should by no means let them anywhere near it.

I'd give it a million stars if I could. I never thot a game could possibly be more fun that GTA3. GTA Vice City achieves that impossible. How can I NOT recommend this epic adventure???
The action, the gore, the humor, the violence, the amazing stunts, the tunes, the celebrity voices, ABSOLUTELY EVERY-THING about this game ROCKS SO MUCH! You could play it for a gillion years and STILL never get bored and STILL discover cool new thingies.
I know I sound really hyper and wound-up but the game is so damn exciting and so very, very cool that I'm all for letting you all realize you MUST buy this. It's a classic. When you're not laughing your [butt] off you'll be marvelling at the outrageous car crashes or shaking your head at the sick and depraved humor of this...THE BEST VIDEO GAME EVER!
Very fun, but quite similar to the first.

Very fun and addicting game. Nice new city is much larger than Liberty City and has almost all new cars. Also the addition of motorcycles, choppers, and motor-scooters has spiced up the gameplay a little. But all things aside it is very very similar to the original. It's a great series and an altogether fun game, so I give it 5 stars anyway.

Your son (or daughter) may want to buy this game. I understand that Tommy Vercetti (the main character) is dealing drugs, killing cops, etc. You may think this game is completely innapropriate for your child, and you may be right. But keep in mind that it's a GREAT game. It has good graphics, good plot (however adult orientated it may be), good everything. Also, just because a child may play Grand Theft Auto and see all the immoral things it "promotes," I doubt s/he will go out tomorrow and do these things. If you are against anyone even thinking about CREATING a game like this, well, I think your children will be very dissapointed. Please, at least rent it for them.

GTA Vice City will no doubt go on to be one of the most successful games on PS2. With every tidbit of info I read, it just keeps getting better; helicopters, motorcycles, pizza delivery trucks, golf carts (golf courses for that matter), and chain saws. Imagine the possibilities... ... in this case the XBOX, PS2 tech specs, before you mouth off. Before being brought to the U.S. and sold as the PS2, the device was classified as a super computer and none other than George Lucas was denied an export at the time. Software engineers compare it to the high end military machines they've worked with. It's true that PCs will catch up to it, but if you can, go look up the info on it. Just remember clock speed doesn't mean squat. PC chips are designed to handle a variety of tasks and they must sacrifice power for compatibility. The PS2's chip (Emotion Engine) was designed for the sole purpose of pushing games and doesn't suffer from the compatibility issue. Oh, and for the record, the XBox is going to tank. It's just a matter of time, now. PS2 outsells both XBox and Gamecube combined and has since launch day for each. If ya don't already have one, do yourself a favor and buy a PS2. In another year or so, you'll be glad you did.
And no, I don't work for Sony.

This game is beyond fun. I have some plus's and minuses to take note of, though.
Pros:
-You're the bad guy.
-You can do whatever you want; run around on a wild goosechase murdering every person in sight, or complete Mafia-influenced tasks for several mob bosses.
-The cars are fantastic! My favorite has to be the Cheetah (the one that looks like a Ferrari).
-The 80's music is GREAT! I love half of the music, honestly. Wave, Flash, Fever and Wildstyle are the best.
-The talk radio and commercials are hilarious!
Cons:
-Longer loading times
-Phnom Penh '86 is so damn hard!
-This is one of the more difficult videogames out there.
This game has awesome new weapons; Katana, chainsaw (oh yeah!), etc. And, the music adds a lot of fun to the game. I'll occasionally find myself cruising around aimlessly, just running over pedestrians, and listening to some rocking 80's tunes. It's all in good fun.
PARENTS PLEASE READ: Your son/daughter probably wants this game, right? Well, it is rated "M" for a reason! Guess what? The only words I have heard in the game: damn, sh*t, d*ckhead, hell... nothing THAT extreme. And, there's NO nudity. If there was, guess what? It would be rated "AO" for "Adults Only"! And, like one other reviewer has said, the game DOES NOT force you to kill innocent people! You do that out of your own accord. There is also no rape... but, instead, prostitution. But you don't see anything! I hope I have helped you come to your decision. If you are so worried, rent the game first. Then you can decide based on your child's maturity.
This is by far the best game ever.

where the heck is the 2 player mode? There is none and that is the biggest reason this game doesnt get 5 stars. The missing 2 player mode in the first GTA was by far the first thing that rockstar should have incorporated but didnt!
Okay, the big question is "Is this game worth buying if I already own Grand Theft Auto 3"?. Well,....yes and no! Its pretty much the same game as before so GTA3 players wont be as amazed as they were when they first played the game, but its still got some new little things that make it better then GTA3. Now you can smash cars, go inside shopping malls and dance clubs, dive out of moving cars, wreak mayhem on a golf course and more. The new weapons like Chainsaws, meat cleavers, hammers and samurai swords are pretty cool too! So its the same game with some cool new features. On the downside, its all set in the 80's so you have to deal with 80's music as you drive you car instead of getting a variety of raggae, rap, techno, alternative, etc, etc...
If you dont own GTA3 then I say get your hands on this game. If you already own GTA3 or have played it lots, then try and find a good used copy to buy or get it for a birthday present. No doubt its a 5 star game, but if you have already played GTA3, it just does not do enough new to warrant a full price purchase.

I almost bought this game for my son, but read these reviews first. After realizing that none of the people reviewing this product could either spell or form a complete sentence, I decided to opt for something educational. Parents, keep this in mind!

When I heard that there was a sequel coming out for Grand Theft Auto, something crossed my mind(and I'm pretty sure thousands of other gamers thought the same thing): I gots to get it..!! We all know Grand Theft Auto 3 was a landmark in video game history. No other game(at the time) conveyed such realism, such purpose, such freedom. Vice City is no exception, everything that made GTA 3 popular was improved. Ok ok, the graphics still look the same to me, but driving around at night is a different story. Hotels, bars and clubs are fitted with neon lights which shines throughout Vice City. The sound is awesome, you can hear every footstop, gunshot, swear word and the best collection of 80's music anywhere. Sometimes I found myself stopping in a middle of a mission just to listen to some of my favorite tracks. Oh lets not forget about the gameplay...when I first experienced GTA 3...I felt this euphoria, that I've never felt before when playing a video game...when you are able to knock down a pedestrian...beat him to a pulp...and take his money. I don't know about you but I was never able to do that in any other game. I can go on and on about this game but trust me...when you hear GTA you know your stepping into a good deal. It's reputation is second to none. Very few video games can achieve the status that GTA attained. So what's different in Vice City..?? More weapons(chainsaw), more vehicles(motorcycle), better AI(aggressive police) and a gripping story line. "Let this be said...the gauntlet has been thrown..." can a video game get any better than this..??
