I HAVE TO SAY THAT I WAS VERY EXCITED WHEN I BOUGHT THIS GAME. I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS GAME FOR QUITE SOME TIME. THE BOSS BATTLES ARE EPIC. THE MUSIC IS PHENOMINAL, THOUGH IT DOES NOT IMMERSE YOU LIKE THE FIRST GAME. THE GRAPHICS ARE ON PAR WITH ANY GAME THAT THE PS3 OR XBOX 360 THROWS AT IT. THOUGH BE FORWARNED, THIS GAME LOOKS MUCH BETTER ON THE PS2. I PUT THIS INTO MY PS3, AND MUCH TO MY CHANGRIN, I COULD NOT BELIEVE HOW MUDDIED THE GRAPHICS WERE AND IT DID NOT EVEN UPGRADE THE SIGNAL TO PROGRESSIVE SCAN TO FILL MY HDTV. I AM AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM WITH PS2 GAMES, BUT HOPEFULLY SONY WILL RELEASE A FIRMWARE UPDATE SOON(NO EXCUSES SONY! SHAME ON YOU!). THE COMBOS, PUZZLES AND MINI-BOSS BATTLES NEVER GET OLD AND I COULD NOT PUT MY CONTROLLER DOWN JUST TO SEE WHAT TRANSPIRES NEXT. THE ONLY DISAPPOINTMENT, IS THAT THE STORY IS NOT AS ENGAGING THIS TIME AROUND. I TRULY BELIEVE THAT THIS IS JUST A BUFFER FOR THINGS TO COME(GOD OF WAR 3 FOR PS3!). TAKE MY ADVICE AND PICK THIS ONE UP PRONTO!

God of War II is a great sequel. It has an interesting story with great scenes. Despite it being on the PS2, it plays great on the PS3, cutting the load times, etc. And for a PS2 game, it has spectacular views, effects, etc.
The game is a mix of battles, puzzles, and mini-games. It is challenging trying to figure out the problem, or trying to get special items. To take down certain enemies it sometimes utilizes a mini-game to accomplish the feat.
Only seldom is the lack of camera control a problem. Mostly this occurs when a large enemy blocks your view of Kratos, making it hard to see what you're doing.
There are many different elements to this game, making it very enjoyable for repeat plays. Sometimes I find myself going back to see if I can defeat a boss/puzzle quicker.
The best game ever!

They have really made something extraordinary here. This puppy took over 15 hours to beat! I used to think that the 1st God of war was something special, this goes way beyond that. Chains of olympus for the PSP will keep me occupied for now, but I only hope that the ps3 carries on the torch and releases a 3rd installment sometime in 2008! PLEASE!!!!
Sequel did the original GOW justice!

Graphics
To me, this game is without a doubt the best looking game that has ever, and will ever, come out on the PS2 console. While the Final Fantasy games may have it beat on the "cinematic" graphics, I'm sorry but the gameplay graphics is far superior that even some, or most, games out there on the 3rd generation consoles. The level of detail is astounding. There weren't any slowdowns or glitches that were apparent. There were a couple of "loading" issues, but that's probably my consoles with all the dog and cat hair in it. Every little nook and cranny was definitely squeezed out of the PS2 console on this game.
Audio
As good as, if not better than the first game. Definitely play the game with the music as loud as possible. The one thing I wish the movie "300" did was a better soundtrack. The heavy-metal crap they played didn't really fit right with the whole Spartan-thing. In this game, they used big orchestras and strings. The sound-effects were just as good as the first, and I'm glad they brought back the same dude that did the voice of Kratos (TC Carson). There are a couple of surprise voices in there, too.
GamePlay
They stepped it up with a vengence. I was worried that they added more weapons and moves, and that they were going to make it too clunky and complicated. Far from it. They garnered as much button combos on a PS2 controller as possible without being a mess.
Story Line
I thought the first story was excellent. In the sequel, it basically scaled up from there. If you love Greek mythology, this game is for you.
Playability
I finished the game with about 15 hours on the clock; just a tad longer than the first. However, the story and the momentum of the game made it feel longer, but in a good way. Oh, and if you weren't satisfied enough, all the accumulative weapons and powers are retained, if you wish to play the game again.
Overall
Definitely one of the best "sequels" in any medium. This sequel is what Aliens 2 and Empire Strikes Back did for movies. Everything is bigger and better. As for the PS2, this game is a great send-off to the console, if it ever does die. If not a send off, it's definitely given it a few more lives thanks to this game.

ok loved that they kept the controls the same as in the first one. greatness....any way the game play is very addictive and some of the puzzles are somewhat challenging if you don't think them through...over all i loved this game as much as i loved the first one...and i have come to belive all other games are the fillers for the next god of war game

After playing the first part you knew that they had to do a great, great effort in the second one , but I never imagined something like this , it's just amazing.
The best game I've ever played.
Good... but not as good as the first one.

Something is missing. It's a great game... don't get me wrong. But the first one was jaw dropping... this has some great stuff but it's missing something. There are a couple of super annoying game problems. Stuff with the wings is super annoying. It just keeps going and going. I love the game but I just wasn't into it for long.
Lacking in Some Areas.

A great game, but lacking the story and combat of the first game. I found God of War 2 to be much easier to breeze through, and to have only about 1/3rd the combat of the original. The puzzles wer easier, and so were the boses. And the story and movies were "God of War Lite" compared to the first game. A must play, but not as good as the first.

Kratos is at it again, the bald headed spartan anti-hero with a serious chip on his shoulder is back. For those of you that were fans of the original make no mistake, GOW2 delivers and in a very nice way. Although the gameplay is nearly identical from the first game (including the magical items which i thought were too much the same)it introduces a couple new elements that will still seem fresh but only for the first few times you do it. It pretty much turns into a button masher for the rest of the game and the combat seems so much like second nature you wont even have to think to pull off combos or counters, this kind of takes away from the game but something that is easily overlooked. The graphics are top-notch, the cinemas are top-notch, if this is indeed one of the last great games for the PS2 then it will surely be remembered. My only couple gripes in this story is the main adventure seems more like a clash of how many characters they can squeeze into it then having something that moved the character along like the first one. Sadly however the Journey is always more interesting then the destination. Still, if you own a PS2 this game is worth the price of admission. Even though it revisits many concepts from the first game, thats still miles ahead of anything else.
