What can you say? It's a great game. It's sad to think that a video game can have a plot that's as good as most summer blockbuster movies. But it is.

Great game play, fun tricks, amazing graphics. The puzzles are fun and play with your paradigms of what a platforming games is supposed to be like.

One of my favorite games I played this summer.

Definitely a worthy successor

Drawing the obvious gameplay comparisons between this game and the first one, I think that this game stands by itself as being simply an incredible piece of work. The artwork is so beautiful you don't mind yourself running around checking everything for hidden treasure/items. Like in the first game, you'll either love the "kill animations" or you'll find them tedious after awhile. I fell into the "love" camp though - there's just something satisfying about ripping off your opponent's arm at the shoulder and then driving it through his chest. :)

My only complaint would be that this game had to end. I beat it in about 3 days, but I couldn't put it down; I had to skip class one day.

Definitely a must-buy if you want to see how the series is continuing! Maybe there will even be a sequel ;)

Fantastic

I am in absolute agreement with all the postive reviews for this game. Visually stunning for a PS2 game (how are they going to outdo this on PS3... can't wait for them to surprise me!). The graphics can sometimes be a bit violent(head chopping and brutal stabbings etc.), but the story-telling and the game level is just soo superb... you just can't pass this game up!! I'm not even half way thru the game, but I'm already more than satisfied with my purchase.

Finally! Something better than God of War I

Although this game is a sequel to "God of War", it is not necessary to be familiar with God of War to play. That said, I had many moments during the play of God of War II where I could really tell that the people who made this game went out of their way to make sure you get more. More action, more intensity, surprisingly more character development, and a rather clever way to dovetail the fiction of Kratos (your character) into Greek Mythology.
As Kratos, the God of War, you find yourself stripped of power and determined to go beyond vengeance: the Titans have found you, and you will use their powers to seek the Fates and undo the very existence of Olympus. How this quest ends, I will leave to you to discover. In the meantime, get ready for the testosterone ride of your life. Massive amounts of crazed combat, wild scenes, and clever puzzles await you. In an RPG-like fashion, you can control which skills you upgrade, and how far you take them. You also unlock bonus play features when the game is beaten (even on Easy difficulty), and can take part in multiple challenges, find hidden items to use later, and more.
Well worth the money, and one of a small number of superior titles for the Playstation.

go sony!

I am not even finished with this game. I am in the middle and I got a PS3 in the meanwhile so I stopped the game for a while. 2 days ago I started to play again and each time i pick it up i remember why i love this game so much. The graphics are amazing, the game simply keeps you hooked. You go from one extrem to the next and when you think you get a break after a crazy battle you realize you assuemd wrong because this is full action load and you have battles back to back. I cant wait to finish this so i can play part 3 on my new PS3 :o)

God of War II - great graphics...

Lousy game play; the first one was better overall. This game was nothing more than some action mixed with eye candy, and crammed with very poor, and false, references to Greek Mythology (certainly targeted for teenage boys who like "I'm a hardcore mutha'" music).

Let's start with the game play. You get to really abuse block to sickening heights. There is never really any fear of dying for a halfway decent player, even on the higher levels (the vaunted 'Titan' setting). This ruins the game play-wise. If they had removed or limited block, the game would have been far better and given the player a more serious challenge. The final fight with Zeus is pathetic and a non-challenge. Ares was tougher from GoW, and that is not exactly a 5 star endorsement for difficulty.

Historically, the game is laughable. Perseus was nobody to play with, and was honorable. He certainly did not walk around bragging about who he was (like Kratos) and acting pompous. Zeus is pathetically pompous (worse than Perseus, and weak) to where anyone would want to kill him (and a far cry from who he was in "myth"). Athena acts like a weak, love-struck hoochie-mama (she is the Goddess of Wisdom, not stupidity). Icarus was not a crazy lunatic (and his wings being almost useless in-game), and so forth. I clearly get that they made the gods reflect how some teen-age boys see modern day authority figures (like their fathers, and those in law enforcement/government), so they can get worked up into an emotional lather when they play.

The story line is exceedingly dumb. You could somewhat understand Kratos in GoW, but here he is just idiotic. Use your divine powers and get your family back! Better yet, ask Zeus. However, this Zeus is just as dumb as Kratos, and so pompous I doubt he would do anything for anyone (again, far removed from the god the real Greeks worshiped).

The game is great for casual gamers, and those who enjoy working out their emotions on straw men in a very phony, pseudo-Greek backdrop.

Couldn't Ask for More

I just bought this game, played it for about 2-3 hours so far and I love it. Graphics are awesome, I thought that they couldn't outdo themselves from how well GOW1 is but they did, and more. Gameplay is amazing, and so is the storyline, going farther back into the Greek mythology and farther back into Kratos's background. The first GOW and how advanced and realistic the graphics are blew me away, GOW2 so far has my mouth dropping whenever we enter a in-game video plus more. If you love the first one, you gotta play the second one!

Good, but somewhat disappointing

I agree with most of the reviews that the graphics were excellent and included some good eye candy too. Well done on the details...great.

The game was too challenging! I played the normal level and the titan level and I still can not find half the items in the game. Some will say get the strategy guide, but if you need a strategy guide to complete more than 25% of the game, then it's too hard! The puzzles were good because a few I had to sit and think, however it wasn't impossible to figure out.

Too much fantasy contadicting history. Some of the characters that Kratos ran into were honorable men in greek mythology, but the designers made them to be villians. Bad taste on the designers part.

Overall it's worth getting and you will get enjoyment from it, but I don't see myself playing it multiple times or playing the challenge levels because it's too challenging and overall frustrating. Maybe if I played more than 6 hours a day, it might be easier.
