The story, in my view, is outstanding. And the music is the best I've ever heard in all the FF series. If you are a FF fan, I strongly recommend this game more than any other games.

I have kind of mixed feelings on this game. On one hand, it is a fun game with good graphics. On the other hand, it seems maybe rushed. I think Square was relying too much on "sex sells". Also, its missing a lot of elements that makes Final Fantasy what it is. It doesnt really have the same feel as other FF games.

Final Fantasy X-2 is pure fluff. It's enjoyable and fun while it lasts, but once it's done, you feel unsatisfied and crave more.
There isn't really much plot in this installment. The majority of the plot revolves around how the people in Spira are doing now that Sin is destroyed. Yuna is like the Britney Spears of the Spira world, but she is determined to shed her image as the prim and proper summoner she once was, hence she gangs up with her little cousin, Rikku. The Paine side of the story was the most fufilling, and she actually turned out to be a decent character instead of just a cheap fill-in for Lulu.
However, the battle system more than makes up for the lack of plotline. It combines the best of the job system and active time battles. It's fast pased, and all-around fun. Battles and Leveling up are relativily easy, but mastering jobs presents a fun bit of challenge. It's in my opinion, the best battle system implemented in any Final Fantasy game.
Of course there are mini-games....like Sphere Break. Honestly, they aren't very fun. Too much math involved with the Sphere Break. But, like Card mini-games of past, I'm sure many will love the challenge.
It is pretty hard to get 100% completion on your own, so you're most likely going to need a guide. Have fun, kiddies!
Final Fantasy:Still awesome!

So I've just logged 60+ hours into this puppy, and I'm coming away MOSTLY satisfied. Here's my take:
Good stuff:
*The Story: I liked it. I miss my girl Lulu being a player character, but Paine is an excellent substitute. (sniffles - I miss Auron)
*Game play: Good. I like the ATB much better. Makes things tougher (that was my ONLY complaint with FF10 - seemed easy)
*Visuals: Excellent.
*Music: Excellent
Other stuff that I could have liked better:
*The dresspheres: "Combat dressing" as a friend calls it. Concept isn't bad, but I tired of the costume switching animations.
*The 4 possible endings: 100% completion gives you the super wonderful ending vs. the 'good ending' or the 'common ending'. The 100% is almost impossible to get on one play through, though, and I think that's aggravating. I followed the players guide to the letter and only ended up with 97% because I started a sidequest too late. *NOTE: Buy the game guide. There's a whole lot going on, and you will miss it without the book.
*WHERE ARE THE MOVIE CLIPS? The ending most people get is incredibly short. I want to know about LeBlanc, Nooj. What about Rikku and her former significant other "The Player" (don't want to give any spoilers away). Hell, Brother's ready to stab himself in the eye for the love of Yuna throughout the whole game, and they don't even bother to show what happens to him later on. And where is Shinra going? ARGH! ANSWERS PEOPLE! I WANT ANSWERS!
But other than that . . .
I liked. I had to start this game twice. First time I played, the first hour of game play turned me off. A few months later I decided to give it another whirl, though, and after two hours I was hooked. Don't give up on this if you find it trite the first time around. Keep plodding along. It improves greatly the further in you get.
4 out of 5. Great first effort on a sequel.
Happy gaming!

I am not a follower of the FF game line, however I do enjoy linear game play (ie LOTR: The Third Age). I picked up FFX on lark, and fell in love with it! Getting closer to the end of the game, and hearing there was a sequel, I had to try it!
I finished FF X, and excitedly put in FF X-2. Then my jaw dropped to the floor and I almost wept.
If you enjoyed FF X, this is NOTHING like it! The battle mode is confusing and messy, the sphere grid is gone and replaced with some type of "barbie dress-up" spheregrid. The music is beyond annoying and so are the childish antics and attitudes of the characters.
I played about 35 minutes and couldn't stomach it anymore....my best advice would be to rent this first to see if it is a style you would enjoy.
Enix is a leech. Just look at what it's doing to Square!!!

...yet again...despise the different artwork...
Doesn't it seem an awfully big coincidence that as soon as Squaresoft become SquareEnix, the games begin to get worse and worse? Now this game isn't awful but they are starting to try and become something they are not.
'Oh wow!! You get to chnage their dresses!!! That totally makes this game worth getting!'...we don't need some crazy cutscene with them changing their dresses. It's just a jazzed up version of the job system in FF5 which I think was very weak. It may let you customise your party but parameters just evaporate... 'I'm a Dark Knight I have high strength...ooh now I'm a Black Mage and I have low strength tee hee hee look at how versatile I am.' It's just plain irritating.
The story is attempting to carry on the story which I think was very nicely concluded in FF10. However this new story is very dry and because of it they have crammed it full with so many side quests to hide this fact that the side quests actually outweigh the real story filled with incompetent villains (A women with a heart tatoo, with two henchman: one fat and one thin...kind of cliched don't you think?)and a bunch of other cliched characters (paine is an absolute pain). And the sidequests are mission based to make it seem like something worthwhile...when they are really random and pointless. Especially near the end where they steal the obvious and flawed random dungeon idea and make it even more boring. Oh yeah and sphere break? Sphere break!? What are you doing?
OK the FMVs are impressive... but they don't require story creativity and just require expensive computers and graphic design. All this they had before Enix appeared and allied with Squaresoft. Enix are the reason they're going downhill, I mean FF12 was awful. We need to stop Enix before there is no Square left and they'll be called Enixsoft. THE HORROR!!!
Now I may be exagerating a bit. This game isn't awful and Enix did contribute a little ('Um...how about when you press circle you can jump. Will that cover up the fact we ruined the storyline?) but you need to know that this is NOT a FF experience. Your best bet is to by FF7, FF8, FF9, FF10...or any of them in fact if you want a good old fashioned final fantasy. Stay away from this until your sober...or know what you're doing. Please. Viva La Resistance!!!

I don't think Square has ever been involved in something as bad as this game. I picked it up after playing (and enjoying FFX) hoping to find a continuation of the innovative storyline, development and overall fun. What I got was about as enjoyable as a knee to the groin. At times I was tempted to break the game in half simply to assure that I would never accidentally put it in and play this beast again.
Anger and spite aside, on with the review.
This game continues the FFX story just about where you ended. It is 2 years later and the land of Spira has turned into one giant theme park where everyone and their mother is a tourist. Two factions, governed by what looks like 13 year olds, have taken control of the population and are about to come to blows.
The game starts out at a concert where Yuna is performing a song and dance number, which is where I begin to taste a bit of bile. It seems that Yuna has given up on her priestly ways completely, lost about 10 years of maturity, and started a life as a scavenger/pop star. Throughout the game you are forced to deal with her singing and dancing and a poor attempt to build a plot around it.
Other co-stars from the first installment are back as well. Lulu, Wakka and Kimhari make their cameo appearances but contribute nothing to the story. Rikku comes back as a playable character, but she seems to have de-evolved into a prepubescent child as well.
I won't go into the storyline at all, simply because it would hard to say anything about it without giving the entire premise away completely. Let me just say it is shallow, very shallow, and completely not worth investing the time to see the endings. Just look them up on Youtube and that would be good enough.
Game mechanics were severely underdone in my opinion. After the success of FFX, square could have simply ported the game over, changed the names around, and made yet another success out of it. This game consists of all of the bad parts ported over, and new dumbed down material. The awkward conversation scripts, irritating voices, and giant plot holes are all back again. Sadly, all of the good things are gone. Gone is the sphere grid leveling system, the multiple character with some nice storyline, even a good underlying story is too much to ask of this game.
The combat system is nice, I have to give it that. You are given three characters for the entire game, but you have the ability to change their profession in mid-combat. Sadly, because every battle is fast paced and all of your skills, magic and even items require a large amount of time to use, you will fight most of your battles by holding the button down and attacking madly until something dies.
All of the visuals, monsters, characters and settings are a straight port from the previous release which I found odd since this game is far shorter. I got through it with about 60% completion in under 20 hours. While spending more time to get 100% will get you another 1.5 minutes of ending sequence, it is really not worth your time.
In all, looks as good as the original. While I liked the fast paced, quick thinking fight system, the omission of an interesting leveling system was irritating. This game was a slap to the face of the fan base it was supposed to be made for. At many points, the shear shallowness of the dialog, lack of character development and simpleminded mini-games make you feel like you are playing a game more suited for 11 year olds. Then you get a thong shot of Rikku or you hit the point you have to give a sensual massage to a woman for points and you wonder what the heck the creators were thinking.
If you are a fan of Final Fantasy gaming, avoid this one. If you are not a fan, well, you have no reason to touch this one anyway.

Just a warning to parents out there looking at this game for their teenage sons...
The game is based around the characters changing outfits to use different skill sets, and these outfits are less than appropriate. You may as well hand your kid a Victoria's Secret catalogue.
