And when I'm a fan of something, that means I scrutinize it much more closely and wish very deeply to see it achieve its potential.
Dragon Ball Z is an anime series that revolves around characters with superhuman powers such a superhuman strength, speed, endurance, flight and the power to fire blasts of life-energy from their palms. These powers grow stronger the more they train, and so as such, they spend most of their time either training or fighting.
Now, I believe Dragon Ball Z could use fighting game elements to make a perfect game based on the animated series. No, I don't think this is that game, but there's a reason for that.
In virtually every episode of the series, you'll hear someone talking about something, witness someone training to get stronger, or watch as one or more of the good guys is paralyzed with fear over how much stronger the enemy is than they are. For example, when Vegeta attacked the Earth, he was so strong that he put Goku (arguably the series' main character) in a hospital bed. Yet later in the series, he is attacked and almost killed by Zarbon, one of Frieza's henchmen. Zarbon, in turn, had less than half the strength of characters like Burter or Jeice, who in turn, were about half as strong as Ginyu, the person commanding them. Ginyu was, as far as we know, Frieza's second in command, but Frieza was over 100 times stronger than he was. Over 1000 times in the american series.
In fact, Frieza was so powerful, that he single-handedly wiped out the entire planet that Vegeta hailed from with a simple gesture IN HIS WEAKEST FORM.
This is a massive power difference between two characters in the series, as you might imagine.
But Budokai 3 is a fighting game. There's no getting around that. And in a fighting game, having one character who can annihilate another just by breathing hard wouldn't work too well, would it?
Well, at any rate, I doubt it would, in a fighting game. It would, however, work just fine in an RPG. The whole "training and getting stronger" thing is just another word for what we in the video game community call "mining for experience." A system that could easily be incorporated into a game like this as a bonus game/story mode, while also incorportating the enormous mathematical power levels that DBZ brings forth.
But in this game, the biggest difference between the character of Frieza and the character of Cell lies in their movesets. In the anime, Cell could kill Frieza with one punch, but in this game, it's not too tough to beat Cell using Frieza in a fight.
Furthermore, and more to the point, when I fought Cell as Goku in this game's story mode, he wasn't really any tougher than when I fought Frieza, nor was he really that much stronger.
Maybe some day a DBZ RPG will come out in the vein of Kingdom Hearts gameplay-wise, that will faithfully represent the vast gulf in power between the DBZ characters. This game does not fulfill the potential of a DBZ video game because of this.
However, in virtually every other respect, I think this game is great. It's got quite a few DBZ fighters (though it does leave out a few, like Kibito, Chaotsu, Burter, Jeice, Zarbon, Dodoria, Cui, 19, etc...) and quite a few moves and move styles for those characters that are even customizable at one point. When I picked it up, I was so anxious to see which characters I could earn that I didn't put it down for a day and a half. I was that obsessed.
Long and short, this game may not be what I've been waiting for in terms of a DBZ video game, but it's the best DBZ FIGHTING game I've ever seen.

all the reviews i have read say the same things that there is so much to do but theres not, theres a few more characters and thats about it.
Its the same thing as the second version only you push different buttons and have to do more actions to do a bigger attack.
i purchased this game in hopes of a different experience then i got in the previous DBZ games. for the first half hour of gameplay i was impressed but then as i noticed it was the same thing over and over i grew annoyed that i actually bought this game. the reviews are all lies the game is repetative and thoughtless. and once you think you are good at it suddenly every single Com opponent you face in any way be it world tournament dragon arena or just a duel somehow manages to counter dodge block and not get thrown out of the ring or run out of energy. and wether you have the black memebership card or not you still get the same items in the skill shop.
just rent it first chance i get im selling it used.
The best of the best!

Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 3 will be the best Dragon Ball Z game yet. It will have all- new characters such as the movie characters and the characters that have been left out in the past like Garlic Jr. and the Spice Boys. This game will have freeflying which means you can fly anytime you want. The most exciting thing overall is that it will include the Super saiyan 4 transformation for Goku, Vegeta and Gogeta. This game is going to be awesome.
I'm going to get it on the first day it comes out, I promise.
I am shocked, a good Dragon ball game?

alright, I'm a huge fan of DBZ, 'nuff said but this i think will appeal to all kinds of people even if they hate the anime series. I loved the other 2 games. now pretty much everyone who has fought just 1 battle is playable...oh yeah!!! uhh...it looks like the next buy for me, but the new YuYu Hakusho game might just beat it. I might just get both. Either way this game will rock all fans!!!!! PUNK ROCK!!!!!!

Just wanted to let every one know that the review I did titled "The Best Fighting game out there" wasn't done by a kid It was done buy an adult. It was the fastest way to get my review up.If any one out there is like me when they see a review labeled "a kids review" they think he is just a stupid nerdy little 2nd grader that doesnt know hell about games.I thought you would take my review more seriously if you knew I wasn't a snot nosed kid.I know this review hasn't been helpful so I will add a few things I forgot.I've heard that free flying will know be enabled and I heared rumors that the game may be online.I'd be looking forward to the nonstop challenge because I always wanted a challange in that game.If you are looking forward to no. 3 and want a challenge then check in with EB Games and they should have a tournement the next month it comes out. They are very fun,I won one tournement down in florida. Not much of a challenge for me but you do get some prizes.I got 5 prizes of the shelf 2nd place got 4 and 3rd place got 3.They are only things like gaming magazines. Thanks for reading.hope you give me a challenge is this game is online and I know what your thinking,I could beat this guy easy.If you do think that then bring it.

This gme rocks! You can finally be Frieza's 2nd,3rd forms,Cells 1,2,Perfect forms, and all of Babys forms to.I hope in this game they get rid of Tien's stupid Volleyball fist attack and make it his Tri Beam. Also I think Pan should be in this game.I really want to kick my cousins butt with Broly. My fvorite character is kid Goku and my favorite fusion character is Gogeta.I also like Super 17 and all of shadow dragons (including Omega Shenron) from Dragonball gt.And I think General Rildo should be in this game too.
