Have you ever wondered what, exactly, millions of fans see in the Dragon Ball Z cartoon? To outsiders, it's all a bunch of grunting, name-calling, and "powering up" for half an hour every day with maybe the occasional punch thrown on the first and third Thursdays of the month. It's just this sort of outsider who should try out Budokai 3, though not only is it a fun, accessible fighting game, but it's also the first DBZ game to completely capture the feel of the TV show. The developers at Dimps have obviously spent lots of time polishing up Budokai 3's fighting engine, which is now closer to the anime's feel than ever before. As in previous games, every character has a basic set of abilities to work with, the typical punch, kick, guard, and ki blast, which can be further modified with skill capsules. Once you put a few hours into the single-player Story mode and score a decent enough skill set, you'll be able to unleash all manner of special moves in the classic dial-a-combo tradition. In Budokai 3, however, there's an entirely different and far deeper approach to defense. There are real counters now. For example, if you press the guard button and a direction at the right moment against an oncoming attack, your character will teleport out of harm's way (usually to the side of his opponent) and get a free crack at starting some offense of his own. This opens up an array of strategic possibilities in every match, teleportation takes up ki power, so you can't rely on it all the time, but countering is also one of the easiest ways to turn the tide of a particularly nasty combo. This counter system also comes into play during beam struggles if two opponents fire off beams at once, they'll lock in midair and you'll have to overpower your enemy's blast by bashing the buttons. The result is a much more balanced fighting mechanic, which serves both DBZ fans and gamers simply interested in a fighter that feels good to play. Of course, this isn't what makes Budokai 3 special. After all, there are dozens of well-implemented fighting games out there already. This game doesn't really shine until you check out the presentation, the toon shading looks better than ever, and the special moves, while not exactly the sort of thing you'll find in a "serious" fighter, look and feel like they're straight out of the TV show. It's a shame, though, that the Story mode still seems a bit unfinished: Although you have more freedom to explore the world and find hidden items, the story scenes look rushed and jump around without much explanation, making things confusing even for DBZ maniacs. Still, the weak Story mode is the only blemish on what's otherwise the best DBZ game yet. If you think you could produce a better DBZ show than Funimation, now's your chance, nothing comes closer to the feel of the original anime than this game.

DuDe Dragon Ball Z Budokai 3 Roxs! Fusions to Dragon Rushes! Akira Toriyama, Atari, and Dimps have really put together an outstanding 5 star game. Dragon Ball Z Budokai 3 has pretty good graphics and the music is two thumbs up. You get more stages to select from like Insides Buu's Body and Granpa Gohans House and more. Dragon Ball Z Budokai 3 is like all the Dbz games that U can think of put together. Their's Dragon Univers and U can play as:
Goku
Gohan(kid,teen,adult)
Vegeta
Goten
Trunks
Broly
Tien
Krillin
Yamcha
Uub
and U can fly around as one of thoses caracter instead of a game board(On Budokia 2)
In the game their are over 40 characters from Db, Dbz and Dbgt like:
Goku(SS 1,2,3,4)
Vegeta(SS 1,2,4)
Gohan( SS1,SS2 and elder Kai unlock)
Future Trunks
Krillen
Yamcha
Tien
Freiza( All forms)
Cell(All Forms)
Broly(All forms)
Buu(All Forms)
SYn/Omega Shenron
Dabura
Bardock
Android 20 (Dr. gero)
And more but you'll have 2 play it to find out the other characters
Also you can play as Gogeta, Gotenks and Vegito. U can use all their forms 2. it is hard to nail the fusion though.
You can go into Hyper Mode and launch an Ultimante attack or do a Dragon Rush attack. Also instead of rotating your analong stick you have to push buttons in Ultiment attacks and Dragon Rush attacks.
You also can unlock a tounament called Dragon Arena. I'm not that sure about it because I have not unlocked it yet but I think it's like that hercule match that was on Dbz Budokia 1.
Believe me when I sAY it's fun. I play it for 2-6 hours a day. Well somtimes i Don't. But you should definetley buy this Game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AWESOME!!!!!!!!

Okay seriously this game is made for two types of people. The first is for DBZ fans (in which I just don't get it, dying, reviving and what not just loses me). Now the second type of person this game is made for is fighting game fans. There are only a few fighting games on the consoles that are worth playing right now:
Dragon Ball Z 3
Naruto 3 (Gamecube import you have to get this)
Dead or Alive 2 Ultimate (X Box)
Now some may argue that the new Mortal Kombat is a contender but I think not, its just hyped up to me and I just don't get (I don't get a lot things). Now on to the reveiw. First of all this game has a ton of replay value. All of the characters from the DBZ universe are not present, but there are a lot of them and some are stronger than others. In order to get the majority of them you must play the story mode and collect all of the dragonballz. To get some characters you have to just roam around in RPG like fashion and trigger events in the same way as the cartoon (I had some help with this). In order to unlock all of the breakthrough capsules (all of the moves set onto one pill) you would have to buy them from the shop for all of the characters that are not in the story mode.
The fighting system has been revamped and you can now do a major moves such as the spirit bomb pretty much at will (instead of doing a combo like in DBZ 2 and 1 that in versus mode can be seen coming a mile away). The ability to vanish behind the opponent as a counter is a much added plus and it presents a great sense of pressure and speed. You can also vanish (vamp) behind a character after a combo, so like with Vegeta you can go PPKKK and then press the Kai button and do a 8 or 9 hit combo so it would be PPKKKBBBB, but there are ways of getting out of this. One slip and the match can be over.
What I like is the Dragon arena mode in which you can build your character in RPG like fasion. Now if you think you are good you can play your level 79 character against a friends level 89 character and you can win because you both can have different abilities even though you have the exact same character. Such as he can have a larger energy bar and you can have a higher defense, or take more damage with your moves. Also the higher the level of your character then they start to have an aura around them, it's pretty cool actually that the developers included nice little touches like this. There is also an option to just play your characters at normal levels liek an arcade mode. Now this is something that no other fighting game has ever offered. On the surface DBZ seems simplistic, but as you can see there are a lot of RPG type of elements and you can tell the difference between a newbie and a pro, just by looking at the character stats. Hard work and long hours really pay off in this game. Even though it isn't perfect and it may get a little repetitive at times, and long as your fighting someone who isn't overally cheap (fighters, you know what I mean)you will enjoy this game, I gave it a 4 out of 5 stars.
This game is the best

This game is the final one in the Dragonball Z Budokai series. It is also by far the best. It has more transformations than either one of the others. The new Saiyan Overdrive Fighting system has a ton of good features also such as the persuit feature which allows you to rush behind your opponent just after you have made them go sailing through the air, and kick them to make them go sailing again. One of the best parts of the game is the Dodge feature which practically eliminates the need for blocking. Here now is my standard list of pros and cons
Pros:
1. The Saiyan Overdrive System is the best out of all the games
2. There are more characters than ever before, including ones from movies, and Dragonball GT
3. Now there are more transformations than ever, including Super Saiyan 4 Goku, and Super Saiyan 4 Vegeta
4. The makers of the game revived the Story Mode from the first game, and added the twist that you control where the characters go, and you can also go into movie Battles
5. If you're a fan of the show you'll love it, and even if you're not it will give you hours of enjoyment
6. This time they fixed the Cell Shading problem that they had in the second game, and the characters look much better because of it.
Cons:
1. Most of the special moves you are able to perform revolve around ki, so you can end up using almost every drop before the match is half over.
2. The dragon rush is annoying especially if you go on the defensive at the last button, because by that point you have already lost about one full health bar
3. The Ultimate moves are harder to pull off
Finally I will end this by saying that even though the game has its bad points it is again by far the best game out of the series. That is why I gave it Five Stars, and it truly is worth the fify dollars you spend on it.

Mortal Kombat got nothin' on this game, ya heard! Those developers got 2 be geniuses, they made DBZ Budokai 3 the greatest fighting game ever to rock the face of gaming history! Story mode could be a little more creative, and give you more powerful moves in the beginning, but you begin to grow more powerful as the game progresses. I'll also take this opportunity to say that this game rocks about as hard as System Of A Down :D!!! If you don't buy this game, or rent it at least, you will be known as a disgrace to the gaming world. You don't want that to happen, do you?
this and budokai tenkaichi3 are the best
